North and South Sheilds Canine Society Premier Open Show Saturday 28th February 2026

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at their premier anniversary show. I thoroughly enjoyed my day, wonderful hospitality, nice big venue, plenty of space to see the dogs move and a lovely friendly, supportive atmosphere.

Gundogs

Cocker Spaniel Class 182 Puppy Dog or Bit*h 1/0

Class 183 no entries

Class 184 Post Graduate Dog or Bit*h

Two lovely cockers here presented in first class order

1st Dolan’s Snowgate Shine On JW- I’ve judged this compact and merry masculine boy before, he is well trained and groomed really well. He makes a very cockery outline with good neck and shoulders and plenty of rib and heart room, well developed width of thigh and correct bone, he is full of substance and has a well-rounded rear .Moved out with confidence holding his shape.

2nd Yilmaz’s Anlasana Yeavering Belle- another that was presented really well, I just preferred the neck and shoulders and forward reach of my winner. However this beautiful feminine blue was close up. Also compact and merry, with a lovely head and eye. She has good ribs and is short in the coupling she has beautiful feet and has the desired rounding at the rear. She moved out well.

Class 185 Open Dog or Bit*h

1st Bacon’s Timbric Doris Day- Couldn’t believe this beautiful lady had only had a litter 4 months previous. Turned out to perfection today and in fabulous condition.  Feminine head and dark eyes, compact and merry she excels in excellent neck, shoulders and topline. On the move she had great carriage and held her correct cockery shape and I couldn’t resist her. BOB. Well done on your G3 under breed specialist Mike Wildman.

German Wired Haired Pointers

Class 186 Graduate Dog or Bit*h 2/1

1st Cox’s Ida Vom Holstef at Ovetill – A bit*h of a nice size, well ribbed and good angles. Has a good head with correct proportions, ears and coat texture . In the challenge for best of breed I just preferred the depth of rib angles and scope on the move of her litter sister.

Class 187 Open Dog or Bitch 1/1

1st Cox’s Ijidez Vom Holstef Ovetil – A touch bigger than her litter sister but in all the right places, depth of rib, better neck and shoulders, lovely head and correct ears, really covered the ground on the move. BOB

Class 358 Junior

1st Rix’s Ricksbury Roosevelt – Lovely young Blenheim boy with fantastic neck and shoulders. I would of liked to see him moved a little faster. He has a classic head shape with correct shallow stop, beautiful dark soulful eyes of the correct shape, true silky coat that s well broken and beautiful compact feet. He also had great width of thigh and correct tail carriage and driving back end. Just edged his quality kennel mate to best of breed as he had correct carriage and held his shape on the move and was a happy boy with a waggy tail. BOB

Class 359 no entries

Class 360 Open Dog or Bit*h

Class 1st Rix’s Ricksbury Elite – Loved the head and expression on this young boy coming up 2 years and has many similar qualities to his younger kennel mate. Outstanding neck and shoulders and beautiful outline and the ability to cover the ground gracefully, another happy boy.

Papillon

Class 361 Graduate Dog and Bitch

1st Mowatt’s Iotastar Spirit of the North -Won the class on showmanship, for me a bit up for size. Great ear carriage, good ribs, nice width to the upper thigh and correct hare like feet.

2nd Leslie’s Iotastar Bobby Dazzler- initially thought this was my class winner as stood he looked a picture but on the move lost confidence and tail carriage. Lovely head and expression, coat of correct texture. More schooling, will make a huge difference.

Class 362 Open Dog or Bit*h

1st Thornton’s Ch Milbu Cicibello At Shevid (imp) – Oozing confidence and moved out with style this Pap who is coming up 8 years old is still showing the youngsters how it’s done. Great expression from beautiful eyes of correct size and well fringed ears. Good neck and shoulders and deep ribs and great width of thigh, lovely coat with tail correctly carried. Hare like feet with fringes.

2nd Leslie’s Iotastar Stand and Deliver At Moshu -Very sound exhibit with a great outline, well ribbed , correct coat texture, good tail carriage. Lovely head and eye with well fringed ears. Just couldn’t match the carriage and showmanship of the winner.

King Charles Spaniel

Class 363 Graduate Dog or Bit*h 1/1

1st Maddison’s Mitapip Macallan - Black and tan with good head and eye, great nostrils, a really happy boy. A correct silky coat and bright tan markings. Just at that awkward age, would benefit from a bit more weight on him. A boy that clearly loves his mum.

Class 364 Open Dog or bit*h 2/2

Two lovely examples of the breed.

1st Maddison’s Justacharma Northern Magic- Spirited Tri male who with some extra attention to his grooming could really stand out. He has a correct short and cobby outline with lovely depth to his ribs. Good head qualities, low ear set and correct width to muzzle and upturn. It was his correct ground covering movement and driving action that won him the class.

2nd Robinson’s Marchog Moll Flanders - A reserved and demure ruby lady with a wonderfully domed head, beautiful eyes and correct ear set. She has great width to chest, depth and spring to ribs, giving a correct cobby outline. Steady and sound on the move, I could of swept her up and took her home. She must be a joy to own.

Japanese Chin

The two classes were both varied in age and type which is particularly challenging

Class 365 Graduate Dog or Bit*h 6/6

1st Dixon, Sharp and Leach’s Shalarna Fantastic -This little lady took my eye as soon she entered the ring, for me she oozes quality and type. This breeder seems to have a magic formula. She didn’t disappoint on the first go round, stylish and sound movement and full of breed elegance. Initially I think I may have spooked her on the table but I was able to complete a full assessment and the closer I looked at her the more her quality shone through, she has a super head and expression and carries her tail well. For best of breed her lemon competitor pushed hard but at the final look, her confidence and style on the final go round gained her BOB. Ill watch her career with interest.

2nd McFarlane Jesandakai Lu Na Tic- Lemon with a look at me attitude and a lovely expression which I imagine in hard to achieve in this colour. Well ribbed super on the move, with great carriage and character. Tail carried correctly pushed the winner hard.

Class 366 Open Dog or Bit*h 5/5

Gullon’s Adream Alice JW -Abolutely loved this sassy lass. Absolutely gorgeous head and expression on this lemon, which I imagine is hard to achieve in this colour. Great outline. Correct ribs, short coupled and great width of thigh. Stunning on the move such style. She pushed incredible hard for BOB, I was literally splitting hairs. Ill watch he career with interest.

2nd Blair’s Shalarna’s Chaos at Bellflows -Another cracker just couldn’t match the lively nature, showmanship and lightness of foot of the winner. A glamorous boy with a lovely head qualities, glamourous coat, well ribbed nice feet noted.

Bichon Frise

Class 367 1/1

Moss’s Quissmar Lightening Chaser For Mamose – 9 month old puppy with a good outline, outstanding eye and nose pigment and the desired halos, the expression is delightful. Also black nails observed. He is a happy boy with a sweet nature who surely has what’s needed to go all the way. He moved confidently and soundly around the ring with correct tail carriage. Turned out to perfection.

Class 368 1/1

Moss and Connolly Ch. Ashmair Live to Tell For Mamose – Lovely boy with a template outline for the breed so balanced, handled really well moved out confidently with correct tail carriage. He didn’t have the pigment of the puppy and it was close up but won on his correct proportions and carriage. Turned out really well. BOB
