Lichfield Canine Society

Lichfield Canine Society Saturday 3rd January 2026

Thank you to the Society for the opportunity to judge KCS at their well run friendly show. I must also thank the King Charles Spaniel Club for their supported entry. When faced with a rare breed it can be so hard to get the numbers and although the entry was 10 dogs I was only able to assess three on the day. I must say I was delighted with the quality of them all. Now that I live with the breed myself I know being reserved doesn’t make them the easiest of dogs to show and I fully appreciate the work that goes into the handling and presentation of this delightful breed. My goodness when you see them with the correct carriage and movement in the show ring, it really does make your heart skip a beat !

King Charles Spaniels

Class 156 1/2

1st Morley and Hitchcock’s Baldragon Shooting Star - well schooled and presented tri puppy bitch of just 6 months. Such a super outline that is compact. Delightful head that is already so correct in so many ways; domed skull and correct ear and eye placement and well developed muzzle that is well cushioned and square. Ideal neck and good front, well ribbed and cobby. Moved around the ring with great style and carriage for one so young. I loved her, this breeder seems to have a magic formula and this girl is clearly destined for top honours. BOB BP

Two lovely juniors here and so hard to judge male and females together.

Class 157 Junior 2/4

1st Rutherford’s Rignolla Devon Dreamer at Portabello - Sweet Blenheim of just 12 months another that was really well schooled, making it so easy for me to see her many qualities, holding herself in profile so well and so happy to please her owner. Sweet head which is a little smaller than ideal, she has lovely eyes giving a pretty expression, low set ears that are well feathered, lovely neck and a quality silky coat that is well broken. On the move she stole my heart such wonderful, carriage, reach and drive from her ideal angles. Her profile movement was so free and easy. RBOB

2nd Mocherie’s Chacombe Harry On Downsbank – Tri male of 14 months who excels in head quality that is of the correct size, Lovely dome developing, clean markings on the head, dark eyes placed in line with the ear set, good nostrils and pigment, excelling in a well cushioned muzzle that is square and has the correct upturn. He is a crest of neck, well laid shoulders and a good width of thigh and really compact cat like feet noted. His coat quality shone in the entry today. He couldn’t compete today with the carriage, outline and fluidity of movement of first but once he bodies up and gain more ring confidence he will certainly be able to trouble the best.
