North Wales Cocker Spaniel Club 8th Febuary 2026
Thank you to North Wales Cocker Spaniel Club for the invitation to judge at their Breed Open Show. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, what a welcoming committee! My homemade lasagne for lunch was delicious and thank you for keeping so well hydrated throughout my judging. Thank you also to Bryn for keeping the ring moving well and his wonderful company for lunch. I was absolutely thrilled with the quality of all my class winners and couldn’t wait to look up their breeding. Thank you to the exhibitors for allowing me to go over your beautiful dogs.
Class 1 Baby Puppy Dog or Bitch
A lovely class of promising puppies, I was so impressed with how they all performed for their tender age! Best of luck with all of them!
1st Bowen’s Lararth Crackerjack: Blue and tan of 4 ½ months. Very confident and comfortable in the surroundings for his age, which is a credit to his breeder owners. He has a good head developing . Such a cockery compact outline, correct bone, great ribs, good rounding of his rump. A sound merry mover. BBP
2nd Proudler’s Kimapa Kuromi Karrat There were two orange roan youngsters in this class and it was close up between them, I just preferred the outgoing nature of this little lady who had good carriage that showed off her outline. Gentle head and expression, great ribs, great topline for one so young. Gorgeous feet, great width of thigh compact and well-rounded rump.
Class 2 Special Puppy Dog or B*tch
1st Pendleburys Zheridons Lady of The North- Just 6 months black b*tch, a little overwhelmed but did enough to win the class. Lovely dark eyes giving a gentle expression, full of substance, compact and well made. Moved soundly.
2nd Burns Villaspaniol Jaipur Pink - feminine golden her sore eye spoilt her expression today. She has an eye catching outline with good angles fore and aft and the loveliest feet. More training will build her confidence.
Class 3 No entries
Class 4 Any Colour Minor Puppy
1st Bowen’s Lynwater Galinda at Lararth Orange Roan- Head of good proportions, dark eye and nose pigment giving a gentle expression. Correct angles fore and aft, compact in outline and well ribbed. A lovely coat coming, fair width to the upper thigh , a steady, merry mover that already holds her topline on the move. I’ll watch her with interest. RBPIB
2nd McBride’s Top Day Up Town Girl: Lovely type here with lots to like, I just preferred the overall outline of first. Lovely dark eye making a gentle expression, her head is so well proportioned. I knew immediately who the father was, so like him in head qualities. Great rib, bone and substance. Excellent width of thigh, short hocks sound and merry on the move. I would just prefer a bit more leg.
Class 5 Any Colour Puppy
1st McBride’s Topday Break Dance Stunning 11 month old male with sublime head qualities, lovely dark eyes of correct shape, real work and chiselling observed. Strong and masculine with great bone. Perhaps a touch longer in the coupling than ideal. Great width to upper and lower thigh. Strong and happy on the move, covers the ground with ease. Pulled out in my final 5, A future champion I’m sure. I wouldn’t let him lose any more weight. BPIB
2nd Thomas’s Crincoed Higher Love –:Lots to like here, I was really taken with the head and the most beautiful dark eyes. Came alive on the move, sound, merry and cockery in outline. Great ribs and bone, coat of silky texture and really good width of thigh. Loved the free stack too!
Class 6 Any Colour Junior
Two lovely juniors here that were very close up.
1st Jones and Bromhead’s Witko Fly to the Moon: A blue I have admired as a puppy, now a junior of 13 months and a touch longer than ideal. Great head and eye qualities such dark eyes giving a gentle expression. Good outline and well ribbed, correct angles fore and aft, although I would prefer more width to the upper thigh. A merry mover that covered the ground well. I would just be careful that he doesn’t lose any more weight to ensure he maintains substance.
2nd Pendeledell Violanda : A classy black with lots to like. Head with gentle expression and dark eyes. Turned out beautifully, full of substance, great ribs and excellent width of thigh I just preferred the rear action of my winner.

Gorgeous, quality head with the darkest of eyes, full of substance with great rib, bone and well-padded feet. He has a truly beautiful outline that takes your eye immediately so cockery and compact. Moves really well and has wonderful width to the upper thigh. Turned out to perfection and pulled out in my final 5. A truly gorgeous blue.
2nd Cox’s Kimpa Kwackers Kor: A nice profile, a sound and well-made dog but not enough width and substance for me. A merry mover enjoying his day out.

Class 10 Any Colour Postgraduate
Two litter brothers topped this class
1st Kita-Oakes and Oakes Ludzska Royal Quest: Lots to like here although for me up for size, as too long in the coupling. Lovely head and dark eyes, giving a gentle expression, true silky coat that was well turned out. Good angles, correct well padded feet, moved really well.
2nd Stapley’s Ludzska Royal Saphire: Bigger than the class winner but many of the same comments apply as you expect with litter brothers. Merry and good on the move, I would just suggest hand striping more from his head to show off his head quality and shape better.
Class 11 Any Colour Special Beginners
1st Sewell’s Lynwater Mad Hatter at Quattrozampe: Red and white turned out to perfection and really well handled.. A real stallion, compact and strong with a striking outline. Excels in neck and shoulders. I have judged him before and he keeps getting better. Great bone and rib and powerful and sound and merry on the move holding a cookery outline, really good cat like feet that are well padded.
2nd Leylands Crankwood’s Quick Step – Well bodied black with a fantastic outline. Excels in ribs and has a really good well muscled width of thigh. Today, I just preferred the free flowing movement of the winner.
Class 12 Any Colour Bred by Exhibitor

Well ribbed and boned and short in the coupling making a correct compact outline. Full of substance. Great width to thigh and well rounded rear. Best rear movement in the class.
2nd Pendledell Violanda – see 2nd in junior
Class 13 Any Colour Not Bred By Exhibitor
Jones’s Oktumi Star Chaser – What a beautifully headed blue dog with such an eye catching outline. Presented and handled so well. His muzzle is so square (which can be rare I observe) and his expression really gentle. He has correct angles and is compact and well balanced. Considered for my final shortlist.
2nd Pendlebury’s Chataway New Beginnings at Sandabys – A little overweight today which spoils the outline especially at the neck and shoulders but a quality girl lies beneath.
Class 14 Open Dog
1st Hackett’s Lindridge Harbour Lights: Hands down, the best cocker spaniel I have ever put my hands on, just wow. Full of type and so so moderate. This is just the type of cocker I will be aspiring to breed. Stunning, compact, strong and well boned making for a beautiful outline. Outstanding head qualities, so balanced with the most gorgeous eyes making for a truly soft expression, I found myself holding his head in my hands for a long time to admire him, he truly makes you smile. Awesome bone and super feet so well padded and cat like. Great spring and depth to his ribs, so short in the coupling and so rounded in the rear with true cockery width. This breeder just seems to have a magic formula. He moved so freely with a real merry bustle and everyone could see he was in a class of his own. Thank you to his owner breeder for bringing him it made my day, without hesitation he was BIS.
2nd Norris’s Jolady Mr Happy at Amaranth Striking black with a look at me outline. Excels in head qualities, great neck and shoulders, well bodied and ribbed, great width of thigh and moved out really well from all angles, just unlucky to meet first today.

Class 16 Any Colour Veteran
What a super class of veterans, giving the youngsters a run for their money
1st Morris’s SH CH Riondel Candyman JW- Stunning dark blue, a classy exhibit from nose to tail. He is compact, strong and well balanced with great width and well rounded quarters.
