West Bromwich & Wednesbury Canine Society Open Show, Sunday 13th September 2026, held at the Royal Kennel Club Buildings, Stoneleigh.

Thank you to the society for their invitation. I was delighted to be judging Best in Show at this friendly society. Seven very worthy exhibits entered the ring for Best in Show; I was spoilt for choice. Thank you to each of the group judges.

Best in Show was Shetland Sheepdog. Sheltish The One and Only JW Owned by Ms Sorocky – Lovely topline, firm and level with a sweep over loins. Well-filled chest and matching spring to ribs. She was full of coat, abundant mane and frill. Strong bone and flex at pasterns, beautiful oval feet and short nails. On the move, she was graceful, driving, confident, and active. Reserve Best in Show. A very confident Bichon Frise. Delbrupar’s The Gambler, owned by Mr D Parkinson, who was having a super weekend. He was absolutely on his toes today, friendly and outgoing. Pleasing expression from the darkest of round eyes and the blackest of pigmentation. Sufficient stop, enough muzzle ending with a large in proportion black nose. Nicely filled chest and ample spring to ribs. Firm topline, broad loin, muscular with a slight arch. He was in lovely show muscle condition with his bright white corkscrew curled coat. Pipped by the maturity of the Sheltie. Best Puppy in Show Schipperke. Roopec Oh Emm Gee (NBT) – Mrs B. Manners & Miss L Scales – This puppy is full of herself. Small and cobby, without any exaggeration, intensely lively and demanding attention. Broadish skull with a muzzle that shows strength, finished with a small black nose. Her ears were erect and listening to everything that was going on; she has a strong jaw with a good scissor bite. Not a great length of neck, but full with a slight arch. Nicely sloping shoulders with straight legs tucked neatly into her ribs. Short, powerful loin, muscular and pliant. Naturally tailless, which is lovely to see. On the move, she was full of confidence with a brisk stride. Her coat was in super condition, showing a good cape and frill, finished with nicely developed culottes. The future is bright for this young lady. Reserve Best Puppy in Show Australian Shepherd Trijem Bad Moon Rising at Hattiehoula – Balanced head, flat skull and equal length muzzle to skull, moderate stop with eyes dark, expressive almond in shape. Neck, moderate in length and set well into shoulders. Ample spring to ribs at this age. He moved around the ring on well-padded oval feet with a smooth, easy pace.  Best Veteran in Show - Whippet – Cobyco Could be the Last at Mulcair JW ShCM VW – Mrs Whitaker-Crosby – This 10yr old girl can really show some of the younger ones how to go on. She was in beautiful show condition with enough muscling and strength in all the right places. Very pretty head and flat skull, the darkest of eyes and strong jaw. Correct bladed bone with a slight spring at her pasterns, sufficient tuck-up and short muscular loin. On the move she was steady and reaching. Best Import Register – Korean Jindo – Mrs Thurston & Mrs Watson – An impressive 4 yr male. He has a strong masculine head with a slightly shorter muzzle than skull, sufficient stop and almond dark eyes, finishing with thick erect ears. Muscular neck fitting neatly into his shoulders. Strong muscular topline with a short firm loin. High-set tail curved over his back. He moved with a strong, vigorous stride.  AV Jane Allman Memorial Puppy Stakes: 1. Pointer – Teisgol Snow Prince Charmin – Miss Saunders & Mr Newton - At 9 months, he has a good show career in front of him. Defined stop, well-set eyes, dark with a soft alert expression and black pigmentation. He’s built on strong oval bone throughout and oval, well-knuckled feet. On the move, he reached out and drove from behind. 2. English Setter – Alolfrana Xclusive Party – Mrs Adams - 10-month-old English Setter. This youngster carried his head high and legs that went all over. He had the bone and substance that needed a little time to come together. Lovely promising puppy. AV Junior Stakes 1. Beagle – Poppyville Forever Dancing to Sanbryvales – Mrs Smith - not long out of puppy and making his mark. Pleasing head, with slight dome to skull, ears set low reaching well forward to the end of his nose, suitable length of neck clean with a slight arch. Nicely laid shoulders and strong straight legs to tight round feet. On the move, smooth reaching stride. 2. Irish Red Setter – Gwendariff Cracklin Rosie for Lochlorien (IKC) – Mr & Mrs Stevenson - Nicely balanced head, good backskull and parallel in planes, hazel eyes, lovely length to neck, pleasing shoulder lay and return, ample bone, and lovely firm feet with good knuckling. Sound in rearquarters and moved with drive. AV Open Stakes: 1. Retriever (Labrador) – Rochevale Palm Reader JW – Miss Davis - 4yr old Black Labrador. Strong, muscular throughout with a broad skull and strong jaws, finished with a large nose and wide-open nostrils. Well ribbed back to a short muscular loin. He moved out on tight, round feet with well-developed pads. 2. Spaniel (Welsh Springer) – Glenbrows Flame For Tantaraviz - Beautifully turned out in rich red and white dense silky coat. Enough spring to ribs and a short muscular loin. Well-developed hindquarters with deep second thigh and well-down hocks, tight, well-knuckled feet. AV Veteran Stakes: 1. Chow Chow – Ch Hiswin Mystical Atar AVEC Simcha JW – Mrs Evans - At just 7 yrs, this girl was in super condition, good pigmentation to mouth and scissor bite. Straight forelegs to tight round feet, chest full and ribs reaching to elbow. Short muscular loin. She moved with a typical pendulum action. 2. Bichon Frise – Winharleigh Magic of Music – Miss Marsden - Another just 7yrs. Well-balanced throughout, carrying his head proudly. Slightly longer than high and depth of chest. On the move, he was straight and true with an easy driving action. Judge Janet Kay (KAYTIAN)
