Reading & District Kennel Association Premier Open Show – 27th May 2026

Judge: Jane Whitton (Haggatty)

Thank you very much to the Reading & District Kennel Association committee for inviting me to judge this year. I was absolutely thrilled with my entry and being inside out of the sun was a bonus!

Beagles

To all those who entered under me I just want to say thank you as it is always a privilege to get to judge people’s beloved Hounds and so I will always be thankful to those who take the time to enter under me. Very pleased with my overall line up especially when my BOB took G4 and my BP took PG2!

PUPPY (1,1)

1st – Bridgeman & Logue’s Kingswin Chuck Berry

6mth old very dark blanket tricolour dog. Beautiful head with melting expression, correct bite and lovely low set ears which lead into an elegant length of neck. Excellent amount of bone and topline. He shows promise but just a bit raw at present and needing to build muscle. Good breadth of ribs which extend back nicely. A fraction long in loin at this stage but good hind angulation and moves cleanly. He was a bit unsettled and unsure of himself today but am sure this will improve as he grows in confidence.

JUNIOR (1,1)

1st – Bridgeman & Logue’s Kingswin Brenda Lee

6mth old tricolour bitch - litter sibling to the puppy winner. More developed at this point than her sibling. As with him she has a lovely shape to her head and ears set on nice and low and good dentition. Could do with less wrinkle on head, but this could well smooth out with maturity and growth. Beautiful length of neck leading into the loveliest of level toplines which didn’t falter throughout. Good amount of bone with decent angulation front and back. Stern carried well and her movement was light and athletic and looked to have a lot of promise to come. I was pleased to award her BP and RBOB and see her later take HPG2!

POST GRADUATE (1,2)

1st – Simkin’s Simeldaka Sliema Madame

18mth old open marked tricolour bitch. The word unassuming would be one I would use to describe her as she sneaks up on you to get your attention. Beautifully elegant head with soft, appealing eyes. Correct bite, lovely low set ears and all leading into an elegant reach of neck. Everything flows with her as her neck simply flows into her absolutely level topline which she maintained at all times. Correct angulation throughout though to be picky I would like to see a touch more forechest and bone but everything on her is in balance with itself. Movement was lovely and free, and she was presented to perfection. Pleased to give her BOB and see her go G4.

OPEN (4,1)

1st – Bridgeman & Logue’s Kingswin Gifted

14 mth old tricolour bitch of a larger mould. Nice balanced head with correct appealing expression. Correct bite and lovely long low hanging leathers. Decent length of neck and good front. Top line is level and correct though a fraction long but something you can forgive in a bitch. Hindquarters are excellent, being very strong and with fab angulation. Not 100% settled today but a worthy winner in her class nonetheless as her movement when she settles is very good. Lots of promise to come as she continues to mature.

2nd – Simkin’s Simeldaka Marfa Ridge

4yr old tan and white bitch whose head is a definition in elegance and refinement with the kindest of expressions and excellent low ears set. This leads into her very lovely neck to good shoulders and level topline. Stern carried well and she has lovely tight feet. Her movement in profile is nice, but I would like to see a bit more angulation behind as well as a bit more bone/substance to be ideal. Overall though a consistently nice bitch.
