Norfolk and Norwich Canine Society Premier Open 7th April 2026

Italian Greyhound

Judge: Jane Minton

Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge the breed I have owned/shown in the past. A huge thanks to my very capable exhibitor/steward Riikka Kotanen who kindly filled in last minute. I would like to thank those exhibitors who accepted my decisions with grace. I know the movement of toy breeds today benefitted greatly from the warmth of the overhead heating indoors, so thank you to the committee for this thought. The additional warmth, coupled with the sandy substrate flooring, meant those IG with correct structure were relaxed and able to show off their movement. I ensured all dogs had plenty of opportunities to move in the ring to keep their muscles warmed up, as I wished to see the movement and elegance that I know good examples of this breed will show. IG’s have an athletes build, they must moved to be appreciated.

Class 109 P – (2/3}

1st– Mrs AJ and Miss DM Guyton - Pako From Emerald Galaxy (Imp Ukr)

11 ½ month old Fawn Dog. Smaller, pretty boy. Super head, kind expressive eyes, nice length of muzzle, great bite, well set back small rose ears. Happy on the table to be handled. I would prefer a more elegant neck for the overall picture. Good S curves into shoulders, and off back over loins, excellent depth of chest, S curves carried on underneath the dog. Good, solid straight front legs into hair feet, skin fine and translucent at hocks, coat fine and glossy. Tail set correct, of correct length, carried well. Movement showed good propulsion from behind and decent reach at the front. Sadly, very fidgety on the floor when standing for BOB Challenge, but still a youngster and time is on his side. I gave him BPIB in the Challenge, as a good smaller puppy, more vivacious in character than the puppy from Junior. BPIB.

2nd Mrs A Tate - Crystaldrift Daredevil Dan

Eight and bit month old Black Dog. Bit unsettled today. Slender head with bright eyes, good bite. Fine rose ears. Elegant length of neck, leading into his shoulders. Some S curves to back and underneath starting to show. Good straight legs into correct hailr feet. Great movement, beautiful fine coat, lacking in gloss as still in puppy coat change, translucent skin at hocks. Chest needs to deepen, but time on his side to mature. Tail set well and a reasonable length, I noted slight damage to tip. Still early days for this young boy, confidence will build up.

Class 110 SY – (2/2)

1st Mrs A Collins - Salatini Black Magic

11 ½ month old Black Dog, white marks on chest. A reserved, watchful boy. Ideally would prefer a more vivacious character in an IG puppy. Up to size youngster, hoping he has reached his top height. Head very masculine, eyes alert. Ears large, rose shape, not used to best advantage today as one held back, one out to side. Bite good. Skin soft and supple, mostly a fine coat, lacking gloss. Chest yet to drop fully, muscle up. Noted pasterns and feet need to firm. Time on his side to fill out/strengthen up. Movement okay. RBIB given due to his overall presence, and ability to stand stock still for lengths of time on the floor during the BOB Challenge. RBIB

2nd Miss E Melder - Kenleap Laugh Out Loud

16 month old pretty Blue Bitch with slight white chest, white on some toes. An elegant, feminine head, the expression in her eyes was melting. Good bite, rose ears held back. Elegant length of neck with required S curves onto her neck/back evident, and to underneath, leading into her shoulders and onto her back. Straight fine front legs and hair feet. Fine soft skin and coat, some gloss to coat. Translucent skin on rear hocks. Back arched over loins to a well set, low tail of a good length and carried correctly, I noted damage to the very tip of her tail. Would prefer a chest with more depth. Lovely movement going and coming.

Class 111 L (2/2)

1st Mrs A J and Miss DM Guyton - Black Baraka Ultra Violet Avec Ansanda (Imp Fra)

2 half year old elegant Blue Bitch. Bright expressive eyes, good bite, pretty feminine face, rose ears set back, fine coat, fine skin, translucent on back hocks. Little unsettled on table today but happy to be gone over. Elegant length of neck, into correct shoulders and onto back, which was arched over her loins. Front legs have strong, straight pasterns, good hair feet. Excellent bend of stifle. Low tail set of correct length, carried correctly. Overall picture was an elegant, smaller bitch with lovely S curve shapes evident top and underneath, very well muscled up fit girl. Excellent depth of chest. Moved very well for her owner/handler, both going and coming.

2nd Miss N Hunter - Salatini Supremo

3 years and 6 months of age Fawn Male with white toes/white chest and white hairs dotted about in small patches/flecks in his coat. Reserved dog. Bright eyes, good bite, ears rose shaped and placed back, for an elegant overall picture his neck could be longer. Lacking the S curves into his shoulders. His back showed an arch over his loins when stacked on the table and floor. Low tail set, prefer more length to it, carried okay. Skin soft, short fine coat but lacking in gloss. Reasonable depth of chest, strong pasterns, hair feet. Well muscled up. No free movement from the front or rear propulsion was seen, despite giving the breeder/owner another opportunity to move him at a slightly faster pace.

Class 112 O (1/2)

1st Mrs AJ and Miss DM Guyton - Ansanda Winter Bird

Nearly 5 years old, elegant Red Bitch with rear white toes. Beautiful head, happy girl, expressive bright eyes, perfect bite, ears rose shaped and placed back, very elegant curved neck leading into correct sloping shoulders, and onto her back. A good arch over her loins. Low tail set, and of good length, carried correctly. Good depth of chest. Showed the S curves top and underneath highly desired in the overall picture of this breed. Legs straight, well set under her shoulders, fine strong pasterns, hair feet. Beautifully soft, short fine coat, super glossy. Fit girl. Fine translucent skin on hocks. Exquisite correct free movement coming towards me, was clearly driven by her good rear propulsion in a straight line when moving away also. This girl absolutely enjoys moving, I bent down and saw her smiling when moving back to me. She is elegant, graceful and quick. An absolute delight for me to watch her happy free action, best movement of the day for me. Handled sympathetically by her owner/breeder, who allowed her to show herself off – great partnership. BOB
