Retriever (Golden): Thank you to every exhibitor who entered under me and attended on this very hot day. You created, by a long way, the largest breed entry of the show. I had the pleasure of going over some really lovely dogs, with depth of quality across the classes, and I did not encounter any major recurring faults. Presentation was generally good, temperaments were sound and the majority moved with the easy, driving action called for.

PD (2 1) 1 Kelly’s Trebell Talskiddy, 10‑month‑old Golden D, Preferred head and skull for balance and chiselling, with the correct scissor bite. Forequarters well boned. The tidier mover today, straight and easy with good reach and drive for age. Coat of good quality developing. A very even class of two; both pleasing youngsters and the decision was close, the winner just that bit more settled on the move. BPD & BPIB. 2 Suttie’s Saffdales Butler Carson, 7‑month‑old Gold D, Nice head and skull with a strong foreface and correct bite. Forequarters good; topline OK. Movement a touch puppy‑like at present but essentially true and should firm as he matures. Coat coming on well. SYD (2 0) 1 Hurrell’s Kadaka King Of Klay, 21‑month‑old Gold D, Masculine throughout with the desired general appearance. Broad, well‑chiselled head and skull with correct scissor bite. Forequarters strong with good bone; body compact and well coupled; hindquarters strong and well angulated. Moved out positively, straight and true with good drive. 2 Mitchell’s Ganpentre Melon, 23‑month‑old Cream D, Head OK but would prefer stronger breadth and chiselling to complete the picture. Forehand a touch narrow and overall finer in bone than 1. Rear movement lacked the strength and follow‑through of the winner, though essentially straight. PGD (10 0) 1 Main’s Putjade Perran By Gwyngala JW, 2-year‑old Golden D, Head and skull very much to my taste: broad with a defined but unexaggerated stop; foreface deep and wide, the straight, strong muzzle blending smoothly into the skull with no heaviness of flews. Correct scissor bite. Forequarters lovely with good bone; firm, level topline into a well‑set tail. Powerful, accurate mover with reach and drive, straight and true. A really smart dog who impressed me with its balance and carriage. BD & BOB. 2 Hurrell’s Klassical Legacy From Double Gold Among Gillansgold (Imp NLD), 3‑year‑old Gold D, Good head and skull with correct bite. Forequarters good and tail well set. Sound, easy mover. Very close call with third; on another day the order could change. LD (2 1) 1 Watts’s Stormhayes Hop Into Spring, 6‑year‑old Golden D, Won here on overall composure. Bite not his fortune today and forequarters would benefit from more strength and better placement; hindquarters OK. Movement lacked a little bit of drive today however. 2 Peterkin‑Jones’s Riches River, 2-year‑old Golden D, Well presented and clearly enjoying his day, but insufficiently settled on the move to be evaluated to advantage. Mouth OK. OD (7 4) 1 Lewis’s Fairwinds In Space Man JW, 4‑year‑old Cream D, Well handled and presented. Pleasing head and skull with correct scissor bite. Forequarters very good with ample bone and placement to set him up on the move. Lovely, fluid action with reach and drive, straight and accurate. Coat in excellent order. A really pleasing exhibit. RBD. 2 Coad’s Tinklersroc Bon Bon, 4‑year‑old Golden D, A dog I rated highly last year and still very much so. Forequarters remain a strength; sound, driving movement and coat in very good condition. I preferred the tailset of 1 on the day, which decided two quality dogs in a close call. PB (1 0) 1 McCammick’s Saffdales Countess Cora B, 7‑month‑old Gold B, Stood alone but a worthy class winner. Feminine throughout with a fine, clean head and skull and correct bite. Good forequarters; hindquarters acceptable for age. Movement surprisingly assured for a youngster, straight, easy and purposeful. Promising puppy. BPB. SYB (4 3) 1 Northmore’s Pennbeacon Oh No Not Susan, 12-month‑old Golden B, Immediately appealed for overall balance and feminine outlook. Good head and skull with clean lines; bite correct. Tail neatly set and carried. Quite outstanding on the move with free, accurate drive while holding her shape throughout. A really lovely exhibit. BB, RBOB and BOS. 2 Garbitt’s Genvamor Penny To My Name, 13‑month‑old Golden B, Good head and skull with correct bite. Balanced body with strong hindquarters. Tail on the shorter side which just slightly affected the overall finish. Moved soundly. PGB (2 3) 1 Garbitt’s Genvamor Penny To My Name. 2 Winsor‑Williams & Williams’s Aurgentious Ros An Gwel, 2-year‑old Cream B, Head and skull OK. A little short in upper arm/foreleg which affected forehand balance and resulted in a topline that rose to the rear. Hindquarters good with decent drive and rear movement. Neatly presented. LB (2 3) 1 Hewitson’s Seruilia Society Girl, 18‑month‑old Golden B, Nice head and skull with a correct mouth. A touch narrow in front but balanced by good hindquarters. Clearly very attached to her owner, runner did the best they could to move her, however once settled she moved well enough to show her virtues. RBB. 2 Kelly’s Zenevieva Million Dollars For Fairwinds (AI) (IKC), 13‑month‑old Cream B, Head and skull not my preferred shape and front a tad narrow. Hindquarters also just tending to turn in slightly. Movement OK. OB (1 3) 1 Winsor‑Williams & Williams’s Fleur So Sweet At Aurgentious, 5‑year‑old Golden B, Stood alone but a worthy winner. Stop a touch sloping rather than the well‑defined finish preferred; mouth correct. Forequarters very good with the strength and placement to support her action. Body OK. Movement acceptable, straight enough and purposeful when settled.
