Torquay & District Canine Society

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Torquay & District Canine Society for the kind invitation to judge the Hound breeds. My gratitude also goes to the committee for their warm hospitality, the venue for providing an excellent lunch, and to my efficient steward, Tracey Hill, who ensured the ring ran smoothly throughout the day. I was very pleased with the overall quality of the entries and would like to thank all exhibitors for bringing their dogs under me. While I did not encounter any significant faults, I did feel that the general movement of some Beagles and Dachshunds could have been improved. However, I was generally delighted with the high standard presented.

Basset Hound:

O (1,1) 1 TURNER’S, CH DEVONHOUND WHO’S THAT GIRL JW ShCEx OSW, 3 year old

RED & WHITE B, A bitch full of quality and true Basset type who immediately commanded attention. Lovely head and skull with correct proportions and typical expression, ears set on low and of correct length. Front assembly well constructed with good angulation and strong forequarters supporting the deep body and prominent sternum. Body well developed with correct depth and substance, maintaining a level topline with slight rise over the loin as required. Hindquarters strong and powerful, giving balance to the overall outline. Movement was very good, free and effortless with good reach and drive, maintaining her topline throughout. A quality exhibit and a worthy Best of Breed winner. BOB.
