Torquay & District Canine Society

Breed: Afghan Hound

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Torquay & District Canine Society for the kind invitation to judge the Hound breeds. My gratitude also goes to the committee for their warm hospitality, the venue for providing an excellent lunch, and to my efficient steward, Tracey Hill, who ensured the ring ran smoothly throughout the day. I was very pleased with the overall quality of the entries and would like to thank all exhibitors for bringing their dogs under me. While I did not encounter any significant faults, I did feel that the general movement of some Beagles and Dachshunds could have been improved. However, I was generally delighted with the high standard presented.

Afghan Hound:

O (2,2) 1 DUNSTAN & WATERHOUSE’S, SHIMALMA DISARONNO AT TAZKINDI, 5 year old CREAM D, A very pleasing dog of excellent general appearance and true Afghan type, presenting a dignified and balanced outline. Head well proportioned with good length and refinement, showing the desired aloof expression. Chest deep and well developed, with a level back and strong, well defined hindquarters. Outline clean and flowing with correct proportions. On the move he displayed the characteristic light, springy action with good reach and drive, covering the ground effortlessly. Coat of fine texture and well presented, completing a quality exhibit. BOB. 2 ALLISTONE’S, THREADGOLD CATCH THE WIND AT HERGEHILL, 7-month-old BLACK B, A very promising youngster of lovely general appearance for her age. Feminine head and skull with good balance. Topline acceptable at this stage of development. Movement particularly pleasing, light and flowing, showing good promise for maturity. Coat naturally shorter as expected in a puppy, but of correct fine texture. RBOB & BPIB. A quality young bitch who deserved to go on to win HPG4, well done.
