Bridgwater & District Canine Society

Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier

I would like to thank Bridgwater & District Canine Society for the kind invitation to judge, and the committee and helpers for their hard work in making the day such a success. My thanks also go to my efficient steward, Hollie Wood, who kept the ring running smoothly throughout. I was very happy with my entries overall and appreciate the support of all exhibitors who brought their dogs under me. Although I was not originally scheduled to judge Irish Setters, due to several changes of judge and the need for a Level 2 JEP qualified judge to cover the classes, I was asked to step in. I would therefore like to extend my particular thanks to the Irish Setter exhibitors for their understanding and for exhibiting under me, especially as I judged the breed at this show last year.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier:

J (0,1) No entries present. PG (2,0) 1 ANTONIO’S, MAYNESTAFF FANCY A CWTCH FOR AQUATOR, 23-month-old BLACK BRINDLE & WHITE B, A bitch of pleasing type with a good head and skull, showing correct proportions and well set ears. She stands on straight, well boned forelegs as required, and presents a balanced outline. Topline could be firmer and more level, and on the move she was slightly unsettled which affected overall flow, however she showed enough quality and breed type to take the class. Movement, when settled, was free with some drive from behind. RBOB. 2 EMERY’S, CASAILS FIGHT OR FALL, 23-month-old RED & WHITE D, A dog of fair general appearance but lacking the overall substance and depth of the winner. Finer bone and lighter build than 1. Chest could be deeper and he is longer in leg, giving a less compact outline than desired. Movement was adequate but did not show the same strength or presence as the winner. O (1,0) 1 ANTONIO’S, CH GAZSTAFF’S MAN IN BLACK FOR ANTONIOSTAFF JW ShCEx OSW, 7 year old BLACK BRINDLE & WHITE D, A quality dog with excellent Stafford type. Head short and deep through with very pronounced cheek muscles, broad skull and correct foreface. Good eyes and well set ears completing a typical expression. Mouth acceptable for age. Forequarters straight and well boned with good width of front. Body close coupled with level topline, deep brisket and well sprung ribs. Hindquarters well muscled with good bend of stifle. On the move he was free and powerful, though not completely at his absolute best today. BOB
