Bridgwater & District Canine Society

Breed: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

I would like to thank Bridgwater & District Canine Society for the kind invitation to judge, and the committee and helpers for their hard work in making the day such a success. My thanks also go to my efficient steward, Hollie Wood, who kept the ring running smoothly throughout. I was very happy with my entries overall and appreciate the support of all exhibitors who brought their dogs under me. Although I was not originally scheduled to judge Irish Setters, due to several changes of judge and the need for a Level 2 JEP qualified judge to cover the classes, I was asked to step in. I would therefore like to extend my particular thanks to the Irish Setter exhibitors for their understanding and for exhibiting under me, especially as I judged the breed at this show last year.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel:

P (2,2) 1 HAWKINS’, LEXODY’S SERENITY, 8-month-old BLENHEIM B, A very pleasing puppy of good general appearance, showing nice balance and breed type. She has a lovely head and skull with a soft, gentle expression, and well set ears with good feathering. Body short coupled with a level back for her age, giving a well balanced outline. Coat of very good quality, long and silky with attractive feathering. Movement was understandably puppy-like and could be more settled, with rear not at its best today, however she showed enough overall quality and type to take the class. 2 WEBSTER’S, JOLAINEY BOOMER FOXX, 7-month-old BLENHEIM D, A puppy of good type with a pleasing head and skull and nice length of muzzle. Finer in bone than the winner, particularly in forequarters, and lacking the same substance and overall balance. Topline not level today, standing slightly high over the rear. Movement was acceptable but did not have the same presence or outline as the winner. SY (2,0) 1 HAWKINS’, LEXODY’S LEGACY, 8-month-old BLENHEIM D, A lovely youngster who appealed for overall balance and breed type. He has a pleasing head and skull with large, dark eyes giving the desired gentle expression. Forelegs straight with moderate bone and a well constructed front. Body short coupled with a level back, and he stands balanced throughout. Well feathered coat including feet, of good texture and condition. Movement was free and showing promise, if still developing as expected for age. A very attractive puppy who stood out for his overall quality. RBOB & BPIB. 2 BENNETT’S, ARROLINE INCOGNITO AT REMMYA, 14-month-old TRICOLOUR B, A bitch of fair general appearance. Head and skull finer than the winner, lacking the same strength and fill under the eyes. Forequarters and hindquarters both on the finer side, with ribs needing more spring and body lacking the same substance and compactness. Coat well feathered and movement was sound and steady, however did not have the overall balance and presence of the winner. PG (0,0). O (1,1) 1 KNAPP & BLACKIE’S, CRIDENSA CONNOR, 3 year old RUBY D, Stood alone in the class but a dog of real quality and breed type. He presents an excellent overall picture, being well balanced and elegant without any coarseness. Head and skull very pleasing with correct proportions, large dark eyes giving a soft, gentle expression, and a good mouth. Neck of moderate length flowing into well laid shoulders and straight forelegs. Body short coupled with good spring of rib and a level back, maintaining a balanced outline. Hindquarters well constructed with good turn of stifle. On the move he was free and elegant with good drive from behind, covering the ground well. Coat long, silky and well feathered, presented in excellent condition. BOB.
