Torquay & District Canine Society

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Torquay & District Canine Society for the kind invitation to judge the Hound breeds. My gratitude also goes to the committee for their warm hospitality, the venue for providing an excellent lunch, and to my efficient steward, Tracey Hill, who ensured the ring ran smoothly throughout the day. I was very pleased with the overall quality of the entries and would like to thank all exhibitors for bringing their dogs under me. While I did not encounter any significant faults, I did feel that the general movement of some Beagles and Dachshunds could have been improved. However, I was generally delighted with the high standard presented.

Ibizan Hound:

OD (1,2) 1 CARTER’S,CH L WYND'S WHERE THE SHADOW ENDS JW (IMP USA), 20-month-old CHESTNUT & WHITE D, A dog of good general appearance with the racy outline typical of the breed. Head long and lean with correct proportions, and well set, large erect ears carried alertly. Body nicely balanced with good depth for age and correct tuck-up. Feet tight and well shaped. On the move he showed long reach in front and good drive from behind, maintaining his outline; slightly tracking on the day but still light and free in action. Coat of correct texture and condition. BOB. OB (1,1) 1 CARTER’S, CH AFILADOR ROOM ON THE BROOM ShCM ShCEx VW, 10 year old CHESTNUT & WHITE B, A veteran bitch of fair overall type. Good ear set and carriage giving typical Ibizan expression. Dentition showing age, which affected overall presentation. Forequarters adequate with sufficient body and moderate angulation behind. Feet acceptable. On the move she was sound and steady, though lacking the reach and elasticity ideally sought in the breed. RBOB
