Pointer: Thank you to every exhibitor who entered under me and attended on this very hot day. There has been some discussion recently in the dog press regarding the Pointer muzzle, and whether breeders are beginning to drift toward an exaggerated dish that goes well beyond what the standard intends. On the day I did not find this a major issue, though one or two exhibits were tending in that direction. Movement was not consistently strong across all classes, with slight hackney action noted in a couple of exhibits which is always undesirable in this breed. On the whole, however, the standard of dogs was pleasing.

PG (3 2) 1 Osman's Fleurfield Benjamin Button With Marissolo, 16-month-old Orange & White D, A really impressive youngster with a great deal to offer. Head and skull pleasing with the muzzle a touch more concave than I would ideally prefer, but this did not detract from an otherwise very correct and attractive head. Correct scissor bite. Forequarters strong and well constructed; body well coupled with good depth; hindquarters muscular and well turned. Moved with the smooth, ground-covering action this breed demands, driving from behind and true in front. A really smart dog who impressed throughout. BOB. 2 Siddle's Wilchrimane Florentine, 10-month-old Orange & White B, Very similar to the winner in many respects and beaten only on maturity on the day. Pleasing head and skull, again with a muzzle fractionally more concave than preferred, but a kind, correct head overall. Correct bite. Good forequarters and body; hindquarters sound. Movement a little puppy-like at times but settled well and showed to good advantage when she did. A really nice puppy with a bright future. BPIB. L (2 0) 1 Osman's Cattistock Cosmos With Marissolo, 4-year-old Black & White D, Very well presented and handled with great skill by his young handler. Masculine throughout with a good, correct head and skull and a correct bite. Balanced and true on the move, covering the ground with the easy, purposeful action the breed requires. A quality exhibit who did his handler proud. RBOB. 2 Bleathman's Tolenas Peony Polly For Wynbury, 2-year-old Black & White B, Feminine with a nice head and skull and correct bite. Good hindquarters with a sound rear. A degree of hackney action on the move today, which is always noted as undesirable, but otherwise a pleasing bitch. O (1 2) 1 Tregaskis's Moenfair Sanguineum Luna JW VW, 7-year-old Liver & White D, Stood alone as a veteran but thoroughly deserved his place. Lovely temperament, very much in keeping with the breed's kind and even disposition. Very nice head and skull; mouth acceptable for his age and veteran status. Good forequarters. Covered the ground well for his years, though a slight tendency toward slight hackney action. A credit to his owner.
