Torquay & District Canine Society

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Torquay & District Canine Society for the kind invitation to judge the Hound breeds. My gratitude also goes to the committee for their warm hospitality, the venue for providing an excellent lunch, and to my efficient steward, Tracey Hill, who ensured the ring ran smoothly throughout the day. I was very pleased with the overall quality of the entries and would like to thank all exhibitors for bringing their dogs under me. While I did not encounter any significant faults, I did feel that the general movement of some Beagles and Dachshunds could have been improved. However, I was generally delighted with the high standard presented.

Dachshund (Long Haired):

O (4,1) 1 SAINSBURY’S, DRYMOOR MARRON GLACE AT BOSCOLLA, 3 year old SHADED RED B, A lovely bitch of excellent general appearance and true Long-Haired Dachshund type. Presented a balanced, moderately long outline with sufficient ground clearance and withers and quarters of approximately the same height. Feminine head and skull with pleasing expression. Lovely forequarters with well placed shoulders and strong bone. Body well proportioned and topline held firm both standing and on the move. Hindquarters strong and well muscled. Movement free and flowing with good reach in front and drive from behind, maintaining a clean outline. Coat of correct silky texture, lying close with appropriate feathering, completing a very quality exhibit and an easy winner on the day. BOB. 2 COOPER & HENDREN’S, BRONIA LEONARDO, 7-month-old SHADED RED D, A promising youngster. Head not yet fully in proportion to body at this stage of development, giving a slightly unbalanced appearance, though this should improve with maturity. Longer in leg, which is expected at his age. Feet neat and tidy. Body developing well with adequate ground clearance. Movement sound and free. Coat good for a puppy, silky and of correct texture. A young dog with time very much on his side.
