Tyne, Wear & Tees Hound Association Open Show
Sunday 7th June
Firstly I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge, and thank you to my steward for keeping the ring running smoothly too.
Dachshunds
Standard Long PG (1) 1 Mr, Mrs & Miss Lumley – Swansford Diadora. A 2 year old Black & Tan Bitch. She has a lovely typical head, with good muzzle to skull ratio, lovey dark eyes and a good strong jaw, good shaped ears well placed, a nice length of neck which leads in well to her withers, she has good angulation front and rear and uses it to move out well, she keeps a level topline when moving and is parallel both coming to and moving away, although she is slightly close behind, and has nice tight feet. She was presented with a lovely glossy coat but could afford to lose a little weight. BOB and I was pleased to see her shortlisted in the BIS ring under John Walton Haddon.

Standard Smooth PG (2) 1 Mrs Tomlinson – Melisdax Memories of May. A Black and Tan Bitch of 4 years. A lovely balanced bitch with a good head of correct ratios, nice almond shaped dark eyes, and a good ear well placed, she has a good length of neck which flows into her withers, a good amount of prosternum but not overdone, a good lay of shoulder, enough depth of chest but with the correct amount of ground clearance, although slightly narrow from the front, well angulated shoulder, good length of keel and an okay length of rib, slightly longer in loin than ideal, good level topline which she held well on the move, a good lay of croup and tail set, okay rear angulation, moved out well and parallel coming to and going away. 2 Mrs Mills – Cedavoch Squall. A Red Bitch of 6 month old. And very much a raw baby, she was a little unsettled on the day and didn’t want to move for her handler, but shows a lot of promise, she’s got a good head with correct eye and ear set, a prominent prosternum already developing, a good length of neck and a nice shoulder, a good length of rib and correct length of loin, a nice lay of croup and tail set, good angulation although a little long in the rear pasterns. I would like to see tighter front feet too.
O (1) Mrs Tomlinson – Ch Melisdax Magnolia in May. Litter sister to 1 in PG class. A Red 4 year old Bitch. Stood alone in the class but the moment she entered the ring I knew she was my BOB, a lovely balanced bitch with a super houndy head, lovely expression, good dark well shaped eye and correct ear set, an elegant neck of good length, a good prominent prosternum but not overdone, well laid back shoulder of correct angulation with nice tight elbows, a good length of keel leading into a nice clean underline, a good length of well sprung rib and short strong loin giving a level topline which was held on the move, correct rear angulation and moved parallel both to and away. I was delighted to see her being awarded RBIS among some lovely hounds later in the day.

Mini Long PG (5,3) 1 Mrs Kasprowicz – Indiko Eternal Flame JW. A Black and Cream Bitch of 17 months. A nice bitch of correct size, a good head with nice expression and good muzzle to skull ratio, good dark eye of correct shape, good ear set, an okay length of neck which goes into to a well laid shoulder with good angulation and tight elbows, a good prominent prosternum, a good length of keel and a well sprung rib of good length, good short loin, slightly bum high, and would prefer a little more rear angulation, moved out well, presented in good condition with a nice glossy coat. 2 Ms Mager – Blossom’s Night Sky. A 17 month old Silver Dapple and Cream Bitch. At her very first show and a little overwelled by it all. She has an okay head although a little narrow in the muzzle but a nice dark eye and good ear set, a good length of neck into to well placed shoulders of good angulation, an okay prosternum, good length of keel, a little narrow from the front, a good length of rib and short loin and a level topline, good hind legs well angulated, unfortunately she didn’t want to move around the ring for her handler on the day but with a bit of practice should be much happier.
O (3,1) 1 Mrs McNulty – Daniello Lelix Star at Abbykiera. A Black and Tan Dog of 10 months. A lovely balanced and compact dog of a good size, a super head with a strong jaw and correct ratios, a lovely expression, dark well shaped eye and well placed ears, a nice length of neck which leads well into the withers, a good prominent prosternum developing, a good length of keel, well placed shoulders of good angulation with nice tight elbows, a deep enough chest while still having plenty of ground clearance, a nice clean underline and good length of rib which is well sprung, a nice short loin and good level topline, good hind legs with enough angulation and correct length rear pasterns, moved out well parallel front and rear and enjoyed himself moving around the ring. BOB and BP. I was pleased to see him take 4th place in Best Puppy in Show later too. 2 Mrs Drady – Indiko Fire and Ice. An 18 month old Cream Dog. Another nicely put together dog just slightly bigger than 1 and a little longer overall, a good head with strong jaw, good pigmentation, a dark well shaped eye, and good ratios, with a well shaped and set ear, a good length of neck which flows well into the withers, a good prominent prosternum, deep chest with good amount of ground clearance, a good length of keel and ribs but a slightly longer than ideal loin, a good topline, and well-shaped and strong hind legs with nice short rear pasterns.

Mini Wire PG (2) 1 Mrs Whitehouse – Gralinn November Air. A 7 month old dark Wild Bord Dog. Already very mature for his age, so I hope he doesn’t go over as he gets older. However, at the moment he’s a nicely balanced dog, with a lovely masculine head, a good jaw and good ratios of muzzle to skull, a good dark well shaped eye, and correct ear set, enough length of neck which blends well into the withers, a good shoulder of correct angulation, a prominent prosternum is developing, with a good length of keel, a good clean underline, and a nice length of rib, plenty of ground clearance, a good level topline, well set croup and good tail set, well angulated hind legs with nice short rear pasterns, good feet, and a super harsh coat. BOB and BP 2 Mrs & Miss Kay – Kimbleholme Reelo Kaytian. A Wild boar bitch of 7 month old. Very much a raw puppy and playing up her handler on the day, but good to see a happy hound all the same, she has a pretty feminine head with good dark well shaped eyes, a good muzzle to skull ratio and good ear set, a good length of neck, and a nice shoulder, her prosternum is developing, slightly shorter in the keel than 1 and a little long in the loin, going thorough the “bum high” stage but hopefully that will settle down as she gets a little older, well angulated hind legs with nice short rear pasterns, her coat is still a little soft at the moment. BOS
O (3,1) Miss Chance – Kaytian Keeper of the Flame over Dotlun. A Wild Boar Dog of 2.5 years. A little on the bigger side, but a fairly balanced dog, he has a good head, with good eye and ear set, a nice length of neck with blends well into his withers, a fairly good shoulder but would like a little more return of the upper arm, a good depth of chest with good ground clearance, a nice length of keel and a clean underline, a good length of well sprung rib, a nice short loin and good level topline which he held on the move, okay hind legs but would like a little longer lower thigh. 2 Mrs Whitehouse – Rioban Trinket a Black and Tan Bitch of 5 years. A well sized bitch who presented a lovely side profile when stacked but was unfortunately let down by her front legs which are too close at the wrist with turned out feet, and her hind legs which were very bowed with her feet nearly touching.
