Thank you to Newton Abbott & South Devon Canine Society for inviting me to judge at their open show. A very friendly and well organised show. Thank you to my steward who kept things running smoothly. A huge thank you to all the exhibitors who allowed me to go over their quality dogs and who braved Storm Ingrid.
RETRIEVERS (GOLDEN)
Puppy (6 entries, 3 absent)
1. Northmore’s PENNBEACON OH NO NOT SUSAN – A lovely 9 month typical breed type golden female with a beautiful feminine head. Nice dark brown eyes with good pigmentation. She presents a pleasing balanced profile. Good clean neck flowing into well placed shoulders. Level topline. Forelegs placed nicely under in line with withers. She is well off for bone standing on neat catlike feet. Short coupled. Good bend of stifle, hocks well let down. Moved positively fore and aft. BPIB & PG3
2. Richardson’s STORMHAYES SPLENDIDLY CHIC – Pale 10 month girl in profuse coat. Good angulation fore and aft. Nice dark eye, with soft kind expression. Good length of neck into shoulders. Lacked the topline and straight front of 1. Good strong hindquarters and well laid down straight hocks. Moved out well.

1. Winsor-Williams & Williams’s AURGENTIOUS ROS AN GWEL – A balanced feminine bitch. Good chiselling, nice dark eye and soft expression. Good length of neck into well placed shoulders. Good forechest, elbows tight into ribs. Held her topline. Lovely bend of stifle and laid down hocks. Won class on overall movement.
2. Porter’s SHEARSTONE HASTA LA VISTA JW – I preferred this young lady’s appealing feminine head. Nice dark eye, good pigment, and longer in muzzle. Lovely length of neck into well placed shoulders. Deep chest, well sprung ribs. Good return of upper arm. Standing straight on neat catlike feet. Level topline, good rear angulation. Moved well. Such a happy young lady.
3. Taylor & Teague’s TREWATER WATSON AT GOLDREALM JW

1. Winsor-Williams & Williams AURGENTIOUS MENA DHU JW – A rich golden male with nice masculine head, shorter in muzzle and with dark pigment. Well angulated fore and aft. Ample bone and standing on well padded cat-like feet. Deep brisket, tight fitting elbows into well sprung ribs. Held a level topline. Strong hindquarters and hocks which he utilised to drive round ring.
2. Hewitson’s SERUILIA SOCIETY GIRL – A mid-gold female who presents a balanced profile. She is slightly longer in frame and carrying a tad too much weight which affected her movement. She has a clean neck flowing into lay of shoulders and level topline. Ample bone. Good forechest, well sprung ribs with plenty of heart room.

1. Hurrell’s KLASSICAL LEGACY FROM DOUBLE GOLD AMONG GILLANSGOLD (IMP NLD) – Shown in a smooth, rich golden coat. This boy has a balanced masculine head with dark pigmentation and kind dark eye. Well angulated front assembly and moderate bend of stifle. Would prefer more width of second thigh. Moderate clean neck. Compact body, level topline and short coupled. Moved out well.

1. Coad’s TINKLERSROC BON BON – One I have judged before. I was pleasantly pleased to see him maturing nicely and showing more enthusiasm to stride out with purpose. He has an appealing masculine head. Moderate clean neck, flowing into well laid shoulders through to a level topline. Balanced angulation fore and aft. Pleased to award him RBOB.
2. Lewis’s FAIRWINDS IN SPACE MAN JW – Beautifully presented and expertly handled. He has a broad masculine chiselled head, with dark eye. He has such a gentle, docile expression that melts your heart. He holds a solid topline, although longer in loin. He is shorter in leg. Well bent stifle, standing on straight hocks. Moved well.

1. Smyth’s KADAKA KRUMPET JW – I have admired this young lady since she was a young puppy. It was a pleasure to finally go over her and she didn’t disappoint. She is of lovely balanced construction, nothing overdone. Beautiful feminine head, super reach of neck into correct lay of shoulders. Lovely level topline. Straight when viewed from front and rear. Good bend of stifle and second thigh. Well laid hocks. Shown in great condition. She moved true fore and aft. A deserving winner. BOB & GP2.

1. Mills’s JAYBEC WINTER YULE JW – This yellow male oozes character, happy, bouncy disposition. He has a broad, masculine head with a twinkle to his eye. Strong clean neck flowing into to correct shoulder placement. Balanced angulation fore and aft. Firm level topline. Strong otter tail. Moved well once settled.

1. Jeffery’s LEMBAS BROOKLYN AT MIBRIDGE – Strong masculine male of good proportion. Nice dark eye, broad skull and deep through muzzle. Good length of neck, Strong through body maintaining topline. Good tail set. Good rear angulation with ample second thigh. Moved well.
2. Hoban’s MEADOWLEIGH TIME TO DREAM – A feminine black female who presents a balanced profile. She has an appealing balanced head and kind expression. Tight fitting elbows into well sprung ribs. Strong over loin. Just preferred movement of class winner today.

Lovely gait action. BP & BOB
2. Bowen’s CLANDRIFT FUNKY ANGEL – Nice 14 month old female with pretty head of good proportion. Good length of neck into lay of shoulders. At times a little soft through topline. Well developed hindquarters. Preferred movement of winner.

1. McIlwaine, McIlwaine & Reynolds’s FLATCHARM MR HECKLES FOR BENOVEOR – Really liked this boy, but made his young handler really work today, particularly in challenge. This male presents a very balanced profile with nothing overdone. Nice masculine head with minimal stop, nicely shaped eyes. Clean neck flowing into shoulders and level topline. Deep chest. Moved positively round ring.

1. Kruglow’s STOWLEDGE SCILLA AT INCANTEVOLE JW – I was very taken with this young lady. She has a very pretty head of good proportion. A lovely docile expression. She has a strong muscular neck that flows into strong shoulders. Her forelegs are straight; chest is deep and broad. Well spung ribs. Strong hindquarters with good bend of stifle. She moved beautifully round the ring. BOB & GP4
2. Mortimer’s SCODINZOLARE PHOTOULLA – Another lovely quality bitch with a pretty head and kind expression. She has a clean neck into well laid shoulders. Nice deep chest, tight elbows into well sprung ribs. Moved well but not quite the action of 1.

1. Hipkiss’s DELTANDAMBA DOMINO DANCING -9 month puppy with a pleasing wedge head with almond shaped eyes and flesh coloured rims. Her forelegs were straight. She has a deep chest and well sprung ribs. Well angulated hindquarters. She was more settled than the others. Won class on movement. BP
2. Miller’s DELTANDAMBA BLUE ON BLUE – Litter brother to 1. He made his owner work hard. He has a lovely rich coat. Deep through chest. A masculine wedge head with almond shaped eyes. Nice level topline. Moderate angulation. Moved well.

2. Hipkiss’s DELTANDAMBA IT’S A SIN – Litter brother to all in puppy. Very similar to brother. Would like a little more rear angulation. Moved ok but a little narrow on rear.

A well balanced head with ears correctly set. A strong, clean neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Good angulation fore and aft. Lovely level topline. A rich coat in super condition. Strong hindquarters with muscular second thigh. Moved well. BOB & shortlisted in group.
2. Hughes’s ABACOT HEART OF THE OCEAN JW – Another quality dog. Smaller in size to 1. Presents a lovely balanced outline. Good strong masculine head with an alert expression. Moderate length of neck into lay of shoulders. Nice depth of chest, well sprung ribs and level topline. His muscular hindquarters allowed him to drive round ring.

1. Parker’s TOLLPEPPER ECHO’S HOPE FOR SKYSARIA AW(B) – Alert feminine bitch with a rich coat and in very good condition. Lovely dark eyes and well set ears. Well proportioned balanced outline. Good length of neck into well laid shoulders. Good bone, a little wide in front. Lovely bend of stifle. Moved soundly. Unfortunately, in the challenge she didn’t perform so well for a different handler. RBOB
2. Hughes’s ABACOT INTO THE UNKNOWN JW – This male was presented in a rich plentiful coat. He has an appealing head with almond eyes. Moderate neck into lay of shoulders. Firm topline. His strong hindquarters assisted him to move soundly with driving action.
