PASTORAL GROUP

BEARDED COLLIE

G

Steer-Eldridge’s Gwalltafwyn Gwenllian. Young slate grey bitch who presents an overall nice balanced outline. Pleasing head with good breadth of skull and equally good in muzzle which is strong and of appropriate proportions. Good large nose. Lovely gentle expression, nicely arched eyebrows and well set ears. Good neck of adequate length into well placed shoulders. Decent depth of chest and is well ribbed back. Good hindquarters. Nice topline and well set tail. A little nervous in her job today and apparently has had a recent fright. She was much more confident in the puppy group although her handler in the group did not get the shape out of her as the handler in the breed. Could be a fraction tidier behind but carries herself appropriately on the move with correct head carriage. Needs a new jacket and time to mature.

O

Axford’s Bramblemead Bollinger Boy JW. Slate grey dog who appealed for his overall proportions. He is clearly masculine and a good size for a male. Pleasing head proportions and correct moderate stop. Well set ears. Would prefer him to be a little less steep in upper which might give him a little more reach in his front action. Nevertheless, he has a good depth to his chest, is well ribbed back, has a lovely level top-line and a well set tail. In excellent jacket, good flat harsh topcoat, moved with drive in the rear, excellent muscular condition, BOB.

COLLIE (SMOOTH)

J

Lusty’s Blamorder The Con Artist. Quality tri-colour bitch. Nice overall make and shape. Good head shape with correct flat skull which is correctly tapered. Lovely and clean in back skull. Good parallel planes. Correct eye shape which is well set. Neat ears. Has a pleasing forehand. Pleasing bone and nice well arched foot. Overall her body proportions are correct and her top-line is held both at rest and on the move. She has an excellent side gait but just needs to settle coming towards you.

PG

Caulfield’s Constella Vega Luminosa. Another pleasing tri-colour bitch. Pleasing head and expression with lovely dark eye which is of correct oval shape and has is of the desired oblique setting. Well placed ears which are used well. Overall her body proportions are correct and she has a good topline and croup. Well angulated in the rear. Moved with drive from the rear but could be a fraction tidier in the front.

L

Thomas/Lusty’s Blamorder Side Hustle with Mournebrake JW. Substantial but not overdone masculine dog. Pleased me for his excellent head and expression. Good ears which are well used. Pleasing front assembly. Moderate bone and nice feet. Overall his body proportions are correct. Level topline. Well angulated rear. Could be a fraction shorter in loin if I’m being critical. Moved well. BOB.

GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG

G

This was a very mixed class.1 Jones’ Chalksville’s Maverick. The class was headed by a very promising young male dog. I really fell for this middle of the road dog who is already very mature in temperament and attitude. When you come to his head he has a very typical appearance, has enough breadth between the ears, cheeks are well rounded and not excessive, has correct skull to muzzle proportions. The muzzle is strong and his lips are tight and clean. He has a lovely dark eye giving an excellent expression. He needs to grow into his ears if I am being slightly critical, however they are well set, of good carriage and well used. Good length of neck into excellent shoulder placement. Had the best length of upper arm in this class. Good bone and excellent feet. Body proportions are correct, and he has a good short loin. His top-line is not excessive, and he has breadth of loin. This dog adequately angulated in the rear with strong hocks. Tail of good length and well set. Lovely side gait. I was very taken with him and was pleased, later in the day, to award him BP in a very good Puppy Group. 2 Morgan’s Lornstone Sijur. Different in type to 1 and of a more Germanic style. Has a beautiful head and expression. Lovely almond eye of good colour. Well placed ears which are carried correctly and are of good size. Good neck into well developed shoulders. Front angulation is correct and overall body proportions are correct. In super coat and good hard muscular condition. Moved with drive although could be a fraction tidier going away. I just preferred the overall top-line and croup of the winner. 3 Pinkard’s Limasmythe Loki.

O

Stephens’ Ch. Chalksville Made of Magic for Brightmeadow JW. Have judged this dog before and have done him well. I still very much appreciate his overall qualities of which he has abundance, moderate and not overdone in any way. Pleasing head and expression. Well constructed front. Overall proportions are correct. Good bone and feet. Well ribbed. He moved with drive and is sound fore and aft and his side gait is excellent. Today I felt he was a little heavy and this cost him in the Group although he did enough for Group 2, BOB.

HUNGARIAN PULI

G

Gracie’s Mournebrake Dear Prudence at Celebros. White dog who won here on substance and overall shape. Nice small head with correct skull to muzzle proportions. Good dark eye. Well set ears of correct size. Neck of correct length and not overdone. He has good length of rib, correct top-line and good short muscular loin. Nicely corded. Moved well. 2 Rathband/Fealy’s Mournebrake Hidden Agenda with Keynell JW.Pleasing youngster, not quite the substance of 1. Pleasing head with good eye and ear. Head proportions are correct. Little narrow in front. Otherwise, a lovely correct overall body shape. Good tail set. Nice coat of good length and well corded. Moved ok.

O

Thomas’ Chesmes Kutya Magyar Gryff at Mournebrake. Pleasing correct overall shape. Nice head of correct proportions and good dark eye with excellent expression. Correct length of neck into correct shoulders. He is correct at the wither. Well ribbed. Hind angulation is good, moved well, BOB. 2. Gracie’s Mournebrake Pretty Little Angel Eyes at Celebros. Longer cast than 1 and not the overall substance of 1. Pleasing head and good eye. Good front assembly. Although slightly longer cast than ideal and would prefer a higher tail set. Probably one of the best corded coats that I have seen for some time.

NORWEGIAN BUHUND

O

Lambert’s Sturtmoor’s Gon’n Dun It JW. Wheaten Buhund. It is no secret I like this dog having given him Best Puppy at The Nordic 2 years ago. I think he is an excellent example of the breed, and his showmanship and overall balance give him that extra edge. Correct head which is very typically spitz with correct wedge shape and has lovely well placed high erect ears which are of correct shape. Dark eye with excellent expression. Good length of neck into an excellent front assembly. Good depth of chest and well ribbed back. Correct top-line and his tail is correctly set, tightly curled and correctly furnished. Good bone and lovely small foot. Well angulated at the rear. His coat is in excellent condition at the present time. It is harsh to the touch and is of good length over the neck and shoulder. He moved sound both fore and aft. He did nothing wrong for me today and I was delighted, in an excellent Pastoral Group, to award him the Pastoral Group. I was delighted to see him, later in the day, go Reserve Best In Show.

OLD ENGLISH SHEEPDOG

O

Jones’ Leader Dei Nobilpazzi (imp ITA). Strong dog with an excellent square, typical skull. Good strength through the muzzle which is of correct length and width. Lovely large dark nose and excellent eyes well set. Ears are carried correctly and of good size. He has excellent dentition. I would prefer a fraction more length of upper arm on him and therefore his shoulders are placed a little forward for me. However he has good overall body proportions. Good depth to his chest, well sprung back. Good hind angulation. Moved well and typically for an Old English Sheepdog. Excellent harsh jacket which is to be admired, BOB.

SAMOYED

G

She has a good head which has good width of skull, foreface is nicely tapered and pigmentation excellent. Good eye shape well set with nicely pigmented rims. Good thick ears, well set. She has a good length of neck into well placed shoulders and overall excellent front assembly with good length of upper arm. She has good depth to her chest and is well sprung back. Nicely angulated rear. Typical well feathered foot which is well padded. Good tail of good length. Excellent jacket. Moved very well. Delighted to place her BOB over her kennel mate. Later was second in a strong Puppy Group over an excellent German Shepherd that I rate. I wish her well, BOB & BP.

O

Webb/Bates’ Rosskaja Ginato Clementino. White/biscuit bitch with excellent coat of excellent texture. Pleasing head and expression. Good ears of good thickness and well set. Correct eye. Good neck and shoulder. Good bone and feet. Preferred the tail and overall expression of the puppy.

SHETLAND SHEEPDOG

G

Very mixed class. All very different. 1 Rossiter’s Cocaro The Enchantress. Sable and white puppy and probably the most immature in this class just reaching 6 months of age. In a puppy jacket but had to win here on overall type, head and expression. She has a super head which is of correct shape and with lovely clean back skull. Her ears are well set and are well used. She has a beautiful eye of correct shape and well set obliquely into her head. Her skull to muzzle proportions are correct. Nice overall body shape. Good depth of chest for one so young. Nicely angulated rear and moved soundly. 2 Watkins’ Sheltysham Blackberry. Tri bitch, little larger than I would like for preference. Head proportions are correct and she has nice well used ears. Eyes could be a fraction more almond in shape for preference. Good neck and shoulder. Good overall body proportions. Correct top-line. Correct croup. Well angulated rear. 3 Ferguson’s Sandwick Valentina at Fervaila.

O

Another difficult class with very different dogs to sort out 1 Rossiter’s Cocaro The Highlander JW. For me, this bitch stood out for type. Excels in head and expression. Well used, well placed ears. Good forehand. Good depth of chest and well ribbed back. Correct top-line and tail set. Nicely angulated rear. In beautiful full jacket. Nice coming towards you but could be a little tidier going away, BOB. 2 Dowding’s Jalapic Pumpkin won here on overall type and size. Nicely sized bitch. Pleasing head although would like a slightly less rounded eye. To be critical I would prefer a fraction more neck. Good bone, pasterns and feet. Good overall proportions. Moved well in all directions. 3 Ferguson’s Fervaila Black Cuillin.

Good through the neck and shoulder. Nice front assembly. Correct top-line. Moved with appropriate carriage for a Border Collie although would like her a little tidier behind. 3 Ashenden’s Your Highness Va Vaardekenshoeve of Codecanis.

G

Stoker’s Valaller Jack In The Box. Swedish Vallhund. This young dog is full of himself and pleased me for his personality. He has a lovely head and expression. Good front, top-line tail set and carriage. Correctly angulated rear which he uses well on the move. He just needs to time to rib out and he would be better carrying a fraction more weight. In good coat.

O

Ashenden’s Goldmali Unbelievable of Codecanis. Belgian Shepherd Dog (Malinois). This bitch impressed for her overall size, shape and symmetry. She has a lovely head of good proportions although I would like a slightly less round eye, good ears, well used. Super forehand. Good bone and feet. Correct top-line and well angulated rear. 2 Vann’s Beaukita’s Your Honour avec Isdantay. Black and Tan Beauceron. Nice overall shape to him. He needs to really settle into his job. AV PASTORAL

WORKING GROUP

BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG

O

Wort’s Meadowpark What A Dream at Glorybern JW. Very pleasing male of good size and of overall good shape. Typical head with a good strong skull. Correct well defined stop and has strength through the muzzle which is of good width. Nice dark eyes which are correctly shaped. His ears are well set and correctly shaped. Strong neck into well placed shoulders. His forelegs are well boned and he has very nice compact feet. He has correct overall body proportions and is well ribbed. Nicely angulated at the rear. Good coat which is correctly coloured. Moved well but did tend to be a little flighty at times. However, it was a pleasure to give him BOB and was placed 2nd in a very good Working Group.2 Williams’ Tinland Pink Sapphire. Another nice one. A veteran bitch of quality. Another with a nice head and expression, lovely dark eye. Not quite the length of neck of the 1st placed dog. Good breadth to her chest and well ribbed back. DOBERMANN

G

Bowdler’s Rosebebe Beam Me Up for Inverteign. Brown bitch, pleasing youngster for overall size. Has a nice head of good overall length, clean through the back skull and wrinkle free. Good strength of muzzle. Nice dark almond eye. Needs to grow into her ears a little. Good length of neck into well placed shoulders. Good overall body length. Good depth of ribs. Ribs are well sprung and are well ribbed back. Just falls a little away at the croup for me. Hindquarters well angulated. Moved well. I have to say that she was in such hard condition for such a young puppy. She is a credit to her owner.

O

Caldicott’s Aritaur Cirilla with Philmont JW. Very nice overall outline, is very symmetrical and balanced. I liked her head for overall length and proportions. She has strength of muzzle. Good almond shaped eye which is well set. To be critical I would like smaller ears to complete the picture. She has a wonderful forehand and excellent bone and well arched good compact cat foot. Her body proportions are correct and she has depth of chest. She is short and well tucked up. Her rear is well angulated and she is strong in the hock. Moved very well. I thought her very nice and she placed 4th in an excellent Group.

GREAT DANE

P

Evans/Lloyd-Jones’ Kinnegans Sweet Home at Blodaugoch (IKC). This was my find of the day. This fawn bitch came into the ring and as all Dane puppies can be, was initially all legs in all directions. However, when she settled into herself and pulled herself together she gave me the most beautiful outline. She is elegant and has the grace that the standard requires. She is good size for her age. She does need to mature in head, but the essentials are all there for her age. She has good overall head proportions, and her head is in proportion to the overall dog. She has good breadth of muzzle which has good underjaw. She has a lovely dark eye and she carries her ears well, correctly set, high on the skull and folded forward and not too big. She is elegant through the neck and has an excellent forehand with good bone and lovely tight feet. She is deep enough at this stage through the body and has a correct top-line which she holds on the move. Nice turn of stifle and well-muscled. Her tail is correctly carried. When she settles into her movement she has a lovely stride and covers the ground well. Sound fore and aft and with lovely side gait. I considered her strongly, despite her immaturity, for BOB, however she did throw it all away at the last minute. Nevertheless, when she came back in for the Working Puppy Group she was more collected and I was happy to award her the Puppy Group. I do think this is a nice bitch and I will follow her progress with interest.

J

Nunn/Patch’s Roshanun Conquistador. Upstanding Harlequin male. Has good overall head proportions and good dark eye. For me he could be a little bit more refined in the head for my preference. He is good through the neck and shoulder and has good length of upper arm. Correct depth of chest and correct top-line. Well angulated in the rear and well set tail. He moves correctly and is sound fore and aft. Has a nice profile in side gait. Super bone. Could have tighter feet. BOB.

O

Vann’s Fontanarossa Risk It All for Isdantay. Brindle bitch. Presents an overall nice outline and she is a nice size for a bitch. She was in excellent hard condition and good jacket. For me, I would like more depth to her chest and a little bit more in the way of upper arm length. She holds her topline very well and has a short strong loin. Has lovely hindquarters. Just referred the front assembly on the junior dog.

NEWFOUNDLAND

O

Drakeford’s Mississippi-Missouri Walking My Angel. Pleasing Newfoundland with good head of overall size with good breadth of skull. Muzzle is nice and broad and is square in appearance. Overall proportions are correct with slightly shorter muzzle to back skull ratio. Nice small eye which is correctly shaped without any haw. Strong neck into well placed shoulders. Overall he has a good front assembly. Lovely bone and good large foot. Pleasing hindquarters which are well muscled. In good jacket and moved well.

ROTTWEILER

G

Hopgood’s Saintlythans Cleopatra JW. I liked this Rottweiler bitch very much. She has a very typical and traditional headpiece. Her cheeks are well muscled but she is not overdone in any way. She has a moderate wrinkle, good depth to her muzzle, lovely dark eye which affords her a lovely expression, and neat small ears. Good length of neck into well placed shoulders. She has a good front assembly. Nice strong compact foot which was pleasing. For me, she has a good depth of chest however I would like her ribbed back a little more. She is a fraction long in loin for my preference. Nicely muscled in the hindquarters and is well angulated. Moved very well and was very well handled.

O

Franklin/Hucker’s Bevanray Carlos JW. Outstanding male who commanded attention as soon as he came into the ring. Another with a nice head of correct proportions. Good dark eye and neat ears. Decent length of neck, for me I would like a fraction more upper arm to just bring his legs a little more under the body. He is well ribbed and well ribbed back with good strong loin. Lovely hindquarters. Moved very well fore and aft. A very pleasing Rottweiler male. Placed Group 3 behind a smashing Siberian and a very good Bernese Mountain Dog. Pleasure to see him today, BOB.

SIBERIAN HUSKY

G

Rees’ Winter Melody I’m Too Busy Being Pretty at Amical (imp BEL). Ten month old puppy bitch. Very promising indeed. Has a nice head which is typically finely chiseled, muzzle is of good length and width and Is correctly tapered. Her overall head proportions are correct. She has a very nice almond shaped eye and well pigmented rims. Her ears are typical, of correct shape and correctly set on the skull. Good length of neck into well placed shoulders. Of ideal length for her size. She has a good level top-line. Despite her young age is of good depth of chest and well ribbed back. She is nicely angulated at the rear. Moved very well in both directions. Just slightly losing her coat at the present time which cost her a place in the Puppy Group. She put up a good performance and annexed Group 2.

O

Rees’ Amical Valletta JW. This is a lovely mature bitch, who I have done well before. A middle of the road quality Siberian Husky. She is not overdone in any way, is sturdy enough to do the job that is required of her but she is not in any way dumpy or too heavy through. I thought her very elegant when stood. On moving she has a super side gait, and looks like she could go all day. Pleasing head which is of correct overall proportions. She has a nice eye which is set obliquely as required and is of correct almond shape. Her ears are correctly sized and correctly set on her head. Super through the neck and shoulder. Lovely forehand. Good depth of chest and well ribbed back. Well bent through the stifle and well let down in hock. Correct double coat which is in no way excessive. Good depth of undercoat. I liked her very much. I was pleased to award her the Working Group later in the morning, BOB.

AVNSC WORKING

P

1 Rumming’s Rarjo Thane of Fife Macduff. Standing alone but in no way disgraced I fell for this very nice black Portuguese Water Dog. What a lovely overall picture he makes being so well balanced, square and all of a piece. Nice head with enough prominence of frontal bones. Tapered muzzle and good dark nose. Nice dark round eye and correctly set ears. Excellent neck which is not too long but is strongly muscled and leads into well placed shoulders. The overall body proportions are correct. Correct croup. Nicely angulated hindquarters. Tail is of correct length and is well carried. Moved very well. Very well-schooled for one so young. I shall watch him with interest. Placed Group 3 in the Puppy Group but again this no disgrace as this was a strong group.

G

Ruppenthal’s Power Ranger. Giant Schnauzer. I liked this Giant as he is a good substantial male which has become rare to see. I liked his overall size and proportions. He has an excellent head which is correctly brick shaped, clean in the backskull with good eye. Lovely through the neck. Good shoulders. I would like more prominence of sternum which is where he lacks. He is well ribbed with good strong loin. Unfortunately, not too precise at going away which cost him further awards.
