Bournemouth Canine Association

Bournemouth Canine Association Premier Open Show

Thursday 6th August 2026

Firstly, I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge my breed at this show. Thank you also for your hospitality and welcoming atmosphere.

I would like to thank all the exhibitors who came under me, even though it was a hot day we were lucky to be in the main marquee in the BIS ring.

Overall, temperaments were good with a couple not really wanting to be gone over as confidently as they are normally. I always judge the dog on the day, so this affected some of my placings.

When I judge I imagine the back of a carriage in front of the dog and watch to see if the dog would be able to stay behind a carriage. This could be speed or body position, and this will also affect my placings.

PUPPY – 0/0

Graduate – 4/0

A mixed class of types, similar ages but at different stages in development.

1st – Carrington, Miss Z. Caprilli Remember Me For Ladallyvita – 14mth old black bitch with deep, rich pigment, Feminine head framed by well broken ears. Lighter spotting to face, dark eye, correct bite. Elegant neck leads to well laid-back shoulders, good front that still has some developing to do which is understandable. Stands on straight legs with enough bone, elbows close to her chest. She has a level topline that she really holds on the move. Correct tail set. One the move she really came into her own, she moved with purpose but showed to be effortless at the same time! I could see her behind a carriage all day, and she would enjoy herself too. The bond between handler and dog is developing and will watch these to in the future.

2nd – Brooks, Miss C & Derozario Ms M. Jemblewood Resolute Stork – 12mth old black dog who is still very much a baby and rightly so! Masculine head but not overdone, well set ears, dark oval eye that gives him a cheeky expression. Neck leading into correct, level topline and tail set. The front and rear angulation are balanced, plenty of bone, good chest but still to develop. Nice straight legs, leading to tight cat feet. When he moved, he also showed that he could go all day behind a carriage, I just preferred the reach and drive of 1st. He stands on a solid frame, and I wouldn’t want him any bigger, but he has lots of filling out to do, another I will watch grow.

Post Graduate 2/0

As Graduate class

Open Dog 1/0

1st – Blissett, Ms V. 7yr old black spot boy that I judged as a puppy. Much of my comments back then still apply, except this boy has matured so much more than I imagined back then! He has substance without being overdone, he has a powerful gait without losing elegance and I could see him behind a carriage all day. He was handled to really showcase him, so well done to his handler!

Even though he has just become a veteran, he doesn’t look or act like it. He has a lovely masculine head, without being too coarse. Well set ears that frame his soft expression, dark oval eyes, his head is in total proportion, correct scissor bite. Lovely length of neck leading to a level topline that he held throughout. Deep chest allowing for plenty of lung room, strong legs with tight cat feet. His tail was carried as it should be, angulation matching fore and aft with nice bend of stifle. He came into his own on the move and pushed hard for BOB but was more than happy to award him BOS and BVIB.

Open B 2/0

1st Foster, Mrs. L. lovely 5yr old black girl who just demanded your attention, without you even realizing it! Very pretty, feminine head with lovely well broken ears, expressive dark eyes that draw you in, lightly spotted face and correct bite. Lovely neck leading into well laid-back shoulders, ample chest, strong legs with ample bone and lovely tight feet. The best nails of the day too. Level topline with well set tail carriage and another who held it well on the move. Strong thigh muscles without being overdone helped her power round the ring with her handler. Loved everything about this girl and she really deserved BOB today.

2nd Brooks, Miss C. Another beautiful girl on a lighter frame than my winner of this class. 3yrs old, she has deep, rich liver pigment, feminine head with pretty ears that she used well. Beautiful amber eyes. Neck of perfect length leading into level topline, well laid-back shoulders and nice front. Tail set was slightly lower than I would like, but not excessive as she still held it lovely on the move. Elbows tight to her chest, strong bone but not quite as much substance as my winner. Nice manicured feet. Angluation front and rear are equal giving her overall balance. She was a little hesitant on the move today and played her small handler up no end!

I must give a mention this young man. At such a young age he handled his girl with soft encouragement, gently coaxing her to move forward and he listened to everything I asked of him! He has only been in this business of showing for a couple of months and as I understand it, this was his 2nd or 3rd time handling a dog on his own!! He has such a bright future in showing and I will be watching and supporting him from the sidelines, as children like this are the absolute future of our sport. Huge well done to his parents for raising a wonderful young man.
