A huge thank you to the society for their invitation to officiate at their show, I really enjoyed my day, with some cracking dogs to go over was like the cherry on the cake, thanks to my stewards for keeping me in line


Gordon Setters

Puppy (1,1)

Junior (2,1) 1. Bednarska & Bednarski – Hartenziel Laderach. Still very much in development and quit raw, seemed really happy to be bouncing around, with nice depth to head and a nicely rounded skull, front straight and strong, well developed through chest and plenty deep enough to elbow, loin slightly arched, hip to hock long through a good bend in stifle, slashing tail on the move which was a little erratic as it should be with a youngster, enjoying the day out.

Graduate (3, 1) 1. Pallini’s – Krisada Not In Kansas. Nice overall outline with a balanced build, typical through head and skull with a good dark eye, long through neck to a good lay back of shoulder, front assembly strong and straight carrying good bone, brisket deep and not too wide, carrying a good spring of rib back to a wide muscular loin, good length on the rear with a moderate bend in stifle, feet tight and oval, moved steady with a true free flowing gait. RBOB. 2. Linskey -  Amscot Hasta La Vista Baby,  New to the show scene little tentative at first but showed ok once settled, overall a good held outline, good plains through head and skull, eyes nice and dark with a lovely expression, strong through neck to a good shoulder placement, front straight and with good bone, depth of brisket deep to elbow and carrying back a good spring of rib to a well toned loin, moved with a nice free open gait.

Open (1) 1. Parker-Smith & Tuer – Lignum Money Talks At Bratticus. Dog of balanced symmetrical appearance, initial stack was strong and with a good overall outline and strong topline, head with correct proportions, deep but not too wide, good defined stop, good colour to eye, strong and lean through neck of nice length, forequarters straight with good bone, deep in brisket to elbow and with plenty of well sprung rib carried back to a wide muscular loin, stifle well bent with a good set of well toned thighs, hocks well let down, feet oval and close knit, moved with drive from the strong rear quarters covering the ring with a free flowing gait. BOB.

Chesapeake Bay Retrievers

Junior (1) 1. Mahon-Hunns & Middleton & Haskin – Susqudilla Yankee Shadow (IMP USA). Bright and alert 13 month old with already a well balanced outline, well developed in head showing typical form with moderate stop and correct proportions, strong neck of a moderate length tapering nicely to a well laid shoulder, well muscled through the front assembly, upper arm equal to shoulder blade, pasterns strong and slightly sloping, brisket is deep and broad but not enough to hinder movement, hindquarters strong and powerful for one so young, with good muscle tone to thighs on a well turned stifle, his gait was clean and straight showing drive from his rear assembly, Coat of good quality and feel. BOB.

Open (2) 1. Broomfield & Broomfield & Mahon-Hunns & Newton – Glaneils Don’t Worry Be Happy. Well proportioned with a good overall outline, steady on the initial run around, broad rounded skull with good colourisation of eye to coat, neck of moderate length and fitting smoothly to a good lay back of shoulder, forequarters strong straight and well boned, brisket deep and well developed, carrying a well sprung rib back to a muscled powerful rear assembly, hocks well let down and stifle well turned and with good tone to thighs, coat thick and with good texture, moved with a strong open gait with a clean action from the rear. RBOB. 2. Rigby’s – SH CH Chesepi Waco. 7yr old male with a good outline, showing strong characteristics, head and skull of good proportions with a moderate stop, shoulders well laid back, front assembly with good overall proportions and with a strong muscular feel, good depth through brisket and with a good spring to rib, back strong, short through couplings and a feeling of strength across the loin, well toned muscle through the rear and with a good turn of stifle, coat distinctively thick with correct feel and texture, movement was steady and free but just lost out to 1st .

Curly Coated Retrievers

Junior (1) 1. Spraggins – Tusepo Miss Scarlett. This youngster stood out on entering the ring with an elegant demeanour, strong in outline, head and skull with correct plains and proportions, nice eye with a gentle expression, neck of moderate length flowing into a well laid shoulder, forequarters of good construction with straight forelegs, pasterns strong, chest deep and with a well sprung rib carried back to a short coupling and powerful loin, rear assembly well muscled and with a moderate bend in stifle continuing the good overall appearance, coat good and with good curl, moved effortlessly with good extension and drive. BOB.

Open (1) 1. Spraggins – Tusepo Amazing Love. Mother to the Junior class winner and showing a steady outline on the initial stack, head with good proportions and  plains, neck strong of medium length fitting neatly to a well laid shoulder, front straight and muscular, feet tight with arched toes, deep in brisket with a good spring to rib carried back to a well toned loin, well toned in 1st and 2nd thigh on a moderate bend in stifle, coat thick and with a good feel in curl, moved with a steady parallel gait with good extension. RBOB.

Flat Coated Retrievers

Puppy (1,1).

Junior (5, 3) 1. Walker and Roberts – Seaheart Frida At Gloi JW. Good overall outline, with a racy appearance, head with neat plains, flat across skull, nice dark eye giving friendly happy appearance, neck of good length and flowing to correct set of shoulder, forequarters with straight quality bone, chest deep and of adequate width as not to impede elbows,  nice rib back to neat couplings and short loin, muscular through the rear assembly with a moderate bend in stifle, good muscle tone to thighs, moved with a clean flowing action. 2. Fabretti’s – Levliann Hit The Disco. Steady from the off, holding a good outline on the initial stack, head with neat correct plains, neck strong and not too long fitting well to a neat shoulder placement, front with well boned straight forelegs, brisket deep to elbow, well ribbed to a short loin, strong through rear quarters with well toned thighs, moved in a positive free action.

Graduate (3, 2) 1. Walker and Roberts – Gloi Dubh Mormaer JW. Male dog with a lot of substance and holding a good outline, head with good plains and a nice dark eye, neck with a good smooth flow to shoulders, chest deep broad enough for heart room, not too wide to impede elbow movement, ribbed well back to a strong short loin, well bent stifle with good muscle tone, moved with a free flowing action around the ring. BOB.

Open (4 , 2) 1. Walker and Roberts – Gloi Dubh Lady Muck JW. First stack with good outline and a solid topline, head with slight stop and flat across skull, plains neat and correct, strong through neck set to a well laid shoulder, chest deep with good width, elbows free, ribbed well back to a short strong loin, moved well with a free flowing action. RBOB. 2. Walker and Roberts – Gloi Dubh Kristofer Robin JW. Stood with a good outline and showed good form, head and skull well developed with slight stop, neck of good length flowing to a well laid shoulder, front assembly with straight well boned forelegs, brisket deep to elbow which were free, loin short well toned and strong, good bend in stifle with well toned thighs, initially moved well but then lost a little of clean movement.

English Springer Spaniels

Puppy (3, 1) 1. Calvert’s – Calvdale Infinity. Both in the class being litter sisters and both showing quality in all departments, 1st with a good overall symmetrical appearance with a look of strength and elegance, head and skull with moderate stop, equal from nose to stop and onto occiput, carrying a nice dark eye, ears set well to eye, neck of good length, strong and muscular flowing neatly to a good lay of shoulder, well boned straight forelegs, chest deep and well developed carrying a good spring of rib back to well coupled strong loin, moderate in bend of stifle with well developed 1st and 2nd thighs, feet round and tight, hocks well let down, moved freely and a driven gait from the rear BPIB. 2. Calvert’s – Calvdale Lizzie Stark.  A little longer in outline but still with a strong topline, head well developed with a good dark eye, ears set level to eye, strong in a moderate length of neck fitting well to a good lay in shoulder, forelegs straight with good bone, chest deep to elbow with no intrusion to movement, ribs well sprung developing nicely back to a strong loin, feet tight and round, well bent stifle with good muscle on thighs, moved well with a good gait.

Junior (1,1). 

Post Graduate (2) 1. Calvert’s – Chanangel Yorkshire Honey JW. Compact and symmetrical in outline, holding a good topline, skull well developed and of good proportions, eye dark giving a happy friendly expression, ears set level to eye, neck strong of good length and flowing neatly into a good lay back of shoulder, front assembly with good bone on straight forelegs, brisket deep to elbow with plenty of well sprung rib carried back to well toned loin, stifle well bent with good muscle tone on thighs, hocks well let down, good reach on the move with a clean action seen from the rear. 2. Unwin’s – Allenies Lady Marmalade. Another good looking bitch with a neat outline, head and skull a little broader than 1st but balanced through out, eye dark with ear set level, neck long and muscular fitting well to a neat lay of shoulder, forelegs straight and well boned, feet tight and rounded, chest deep with a good spring to rib, carried back to a strong loin, good bend in stifle with well toned thighs, moved with a good clean gait. 

Open (2) 1. Tolladay’s – Chanangel Yorkshire Ale With Bethersden. Well developed dog with good substance and showing a strong compact outline, skull with good proportions, nicely developed through foreface, ears set level to a good dark eye showing an intelligent friendly expression, good length in neck with good muscle tone, flowing neatly to a well laid back shoulder, forelegs straight with good bone, strong in pasterns, chest of good depth to free elbows, ribs well sprung back to a well toned strong loin, well let down hocks, moderate bend through stifle carrying a muscled 1st and 2nd thigh, feet rounded and strong, moved with a clean driven action from the powerful rear. BOB. 2. Darling’s – SH CH Elazlan Billy Kiber. Older dog than first, still with a good outline and holding well on the initial stack, proportioned and well developed head, with good ear set level with a dark eye, neck strong and of a good length fitting neatly to a good lay of shoulder, well boned straight forelegs, good depth to chest not too wide to impede on elbows, ribbed well back to strong loin, stifle with moderate bend carrying well toned thighs, moved with a clean action from the rear just lost a little to 1st overall RBOB.

Weimaraners

Puppy (3) 1. Longbottom & Milby’s – Gunalt Beewicked. Already at just 6 months this dog looks the business, substantial and powerful looking, no exaggerations and well balanced, skull and muzzle of good equal proportions, intelligent expression willing to go, moderately long through neck flowing to to a good lay back of shoulder, forequarters strong and straight, chest deep carrying a good spring of rib back to moderate tuck up, back strong and level, nice bend in stifle with well toned muscular thighs, feet firm and tight, well arched toes, as puppies do movement was a little loose but there were signs of an effortless ground covering gait. BPIB. 2. Hostler’s – Theondale High Hopes. Having judged this pup not so long ago it was nice to see how she is developing, with all the attributes from last time but getting better, with an outline that is balanced and a look of power she didn’t disappoint, head with good equal plains and a good eye, neck strong through to a well laid shoulder, front strong and straight with elbows tucked in, chest and rib developing nicely deep and strong, level across the topline to a well toned rear assembly, her movement was steady as pups go but again signs of a well driven gait, just a little unfortunate to come up against the class winner today.

Junior (3) 1.  Longbottom’s – Gunalt Wingman. Cracking strong well balanced dog of good overall proportions, with well toned muscle showing power and stamina, head with equal plains of good proportions, eye of good colour and with a correct ear set shows good quality, strong muscular neck of moderate length fitting well into a well lay back of shoulder, forequarters strong well boned and straight, with good proportions in height to length, strong in back with level topline, chest deep and well sprung rib carried well back to a muscular loin, moderate bend in stifle with toned 1st and 2nd thighs, firm and compact feet, moved with great ease around the ring with a clean effortless gait. BOB. 2.  Hostler’s – Theondale High Hopes, As above.

Novice (2) 1. Hostler’s – Theondale High Hopes, As above. 2. Lewis – Caleydene Otterburn. Young dog with a decent outline and strong well held topline, head with good equal plains, strong through a moderate length of neck, front straight with good bone, brisket deep to elbow carrying a good spring of rib back to a nice tuck up and rounded croup, moderate bend in stifle, moved off well with a driven ground covering gait.

Graduate (2) 1. Hostler’s – Theondale High Hopes, As above. 2. Pilatova’s – Sabsky Sasanka. Nicely held topline on the initial stack, with a good outline, head with correct equal plains, strong through neck to good shoulder placement, front assembly straight and with good proportions, depth of brisket to elbow with no interference to elbow movement, ribbed well back to a moderate tuck up, 1st and 2nd thighs well muscled on a good bend in stifle, moved with a good open clean action.

Open (4, 2) 1. Isherwood’s – SH CH Gunalt Schweppes At Caleydale JW. Substantial dog with a good overall outline, holding a good level topline, equal plains through head giving a good quality look, neck moderate in length with good muscle, fitting well into a good lay back of shoulder, Brisket deep to elbow carrying a good spring of rib back to a nice tuck up, strong across the loin with a slight slope to croup, rear quarters strong with good muscle tone in thighs, on a well turned stifle, feet tight and with arched toes, movement was firm, clean and powerful from the strong rear. RBOB. 2. Pilatova’s – Sabsky Svratka JW. Nice outline with good initial movement, head of good proportions with a nice eye, neck moderately long with good muscle tone, strong across the back a little longer than 1st, good depth to brisket down to elbow, ribbed well back, hindquarters well developed with good muscle, driven clean action from the strong rear.

A V UK Vulnerable Native Breeds.

Puppy (6,1) 1. Roberts – Curlyco Cosmic Girl (IMP FIN) Irish Water Spaniel. Compact pup with a good outline and holding a level topline, nicely domed skull of good proportions, eye dark with an affectionate expression, neck already feeling strong and fitting well to a good lay of shoulder, brisket deep not too wide with a good spring of rib, front with well boned straight forelegs, short across the back to a well developed loin, good angulation in rear with well toned thighs, hocks well let down, movement was with a free reaching action covering the ring easily. 2. Spraggins – Tusepo Miss Scarlett, Curly Coated Retriever seen as above in breed class.

Graduate (12, 9) 1. Stead – Ravensett Illusionist of Settavista. English Setter. Substantial looking dog with a good outline and a well held topline, head with oval skull, well defined stop and occiput, eyes good and dark hazel in colour, neck strong and long fitting well to a good lay back of shoulder, forequarters with good straight forearms and round bone, brisket deep to elbow, pasterns short and strong, ribbed well with a good spring of rib, back strong and level, rear assembly with well toned muscle, well bent in stifle, moved with a free driven clean gait covering the ring with ease. 2. Woods – Nadavin Nusa At Sagala. Field Spaniel. Good overall outline to this bitch with a generally balanced look, head with good proportions, moderate in stop with a dark colour to eye, neck long and strong flowing neatly to a well laid back shoulder, deep in chest with good rib carried back to a muscular rear assembly, moved well in a driven stride.

Open (14, 7) 1. Tait’s – Talintyre Fomhar Reiver. IRWS. Well developed Red and White with a good outline and a strong level topline, head broad with a moderate stop, doomed over skull, dark eye giving intelligent expression, neck strong and muscular, fitting well to a good lay of shoulder, front assembly with straight forelegs and with sound oval bone, chest deep to elbow and with well sprung ribs carried back to strong loin, good muscle tone to 1st and 2nd thighs, feet close knit, moved well covering the ground with a neat long clean action. 2. Shipton’s – BEL CH Heartwood Mishules All Is Possible with Calico (IMP USA). Field Spaniel. Balanced and well built with a well held outline, defined occiput on a well developed skull, dark eye giving a lovely expression, neck long with good muscle, front straight and flat, chest deep and well developed, ribs carried back well to a strong loin, stifles well bent with well toned muscle on thighs, feet round and tight, generous long gait driven from the powerful rear.
