Retford Canine Society Sunday 15th March 2026  

Thank you for asking me to come and judge for you, I am always happy to help if I can. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the officers and committee for inviting me to judge at your show. My appreciation to Colin as my steward for his time, assistance and laughs throughout the day. Thank you all for your entries and for the good nature shown in accepting my decisions on the day.

Class 1 Puppy (5 entries / 0 Absent) 

A lively pack of puppies for the first class of the day. 

1st Sladden, Mr I, Canemamans Final Blow 

An 11 month old bitch, well balanced, feminine appearance. Head in good proportions, cheeks lean, well set eyes and good length of ears. Maturing strong fore quarters, ample angulation in hindquarters, moved well around the ring today giving her the edge over the others including her sister.

2nd Szulzycka, Miss C, Callaiscroft Rodeo Star 

At just 6 months old this dog in what could have been his first outing was full of himself, once settled showed all round good proportions and balance, developing in all aspects of strength and shape. Showed drive in placed around the ring, looks like he is going to enjoy showing, handled well.

A pretty bitch of pleasing type, almost square in outline with a well-finished foreface and a moderate length of neck. Good bone and substance, with tight, well-shaped feet. At 19 months she is well put together throughout. Soundly constructed, she moves freely with positive, easy, and efficient action. presented as a quality youngster.

A compact, strong‑boned nearly 2 year old chestnut dog with a kind, gentle expression, balanced head planes. Head is nicely sculpted with an oval, well‑set eye, he has a moderately short neck flowing into well‑placed shoulders. He already shows pleasing balance between front and rear angulation, supported by quality bone and short rear pasterns. Moved soundly in the ring. 

3rd Phillips Mrs EL & MR G Bushwacker Donnie Darko

1st Sladden, Mr I, SH CH Valcor the Confessor at Canemamans JW, ShCex OSW 

A maturing older dog with a typical Bracco head with long, correct planes, and a noble expression. His movement today is what gave him the edge in the class and overall good reach, and drive. Structurally he is a balanced masculine dog with good neck and shoulder placement, strong bone. Shown in excellent condition.

2nd Szulzycka, Miss C, Braccorion’s All or Nothing 

Approaching 3 years old another with an attractive, well‑chiselled head with correct planes and a kind expression. His strong neck leads into well‑laid‑back shoulders, good depth of brisket, and a firm, broad chest. Correct sloping topline, and well‑turned stifles, gave him reach and drive on the move. Was enjoying his day out showing, well handled.

Class 18 Puppy (1 entry / 0 Absent) 

1st Mclaren, Mrs J, Keljaru Taif Rose at Teuschon 

At just under 1 year old bitch showed balanced and elegance with feminine appeal. Has an attractive head with a well‑defined stop, dark eyes, low‑set ears. Clean neck flows into a well‑balanced topline, body of good length, forequarters are sound with neat. Hindquarters are moderately angulated with a good turn of stifle. She moves freely and soundly, coat in good condition.

1st Shepherd, Mrs SA, Casachared Mr Delaney’s Son 

A dog just celebrating turning 1 year old, well balanced throughout his structure, pleasing head set in style and size, fore and hind quarters well angulated, placed first today on the overall movement around the ring, but could swap with the second place easily on a different day.

The sister of my 1st place dog, feminine looking and carries similar structure of her brother, developing well angulation in fore and hind, just not free following on the move today. 

Class 20 Post Graduate (1 entry / 0 Absent) 

1st Adams, Mr AR 7 Miss PA, Paduan Ready for Love at Danbryeli 

A bitch heading toward 3 years old presenting a good racy, balanced type. The head is pleasing long and lean with a moderate neck flowing into a good shoulder. Ribs well sprung, feet are firm. Coat is in good condition, and the dog is presented and handled well. 

Class 21 Open (2 entries / 0 Absent) 

1st Dale, Mrs G, Trefaine Aurora of Aubanjon 

A 4.5 year bitch with a classic, racy, and balanced Irish Setter look, showing clean, elegant lines and a firm topline. A lovely feminine head with dark eyes, low‑set ears. Strong neck flowing into excellent shoulder placement. Well sprung rib, firm feet, and matching rear angulation. Sound on the move with pleasing reach and drive and footfall, maintaining her racy outline throughout. A quality bitch who stood out on the day.

2nd Jarvis, Miss V, Lowdon to Darn Hot 

A dog of nearly 6 years old good masculine head giving the handsome expression so typical of the breed. He is racy and with a good length of neck that blends cleanly into a gently sloping topline. Angulation is well matched fore and aft, supported by well‑muscled hindquarters. He moved with purpose and freedom just pipped by the movement of my 1st place dog.  

Italian Spinone 

Class 22 Puppy (3 entries / 0 Absent) 

1st Mangham, Miss R, Ilsolo Soggy Bottom 

A bitch of 9 month old, a lot to admire already. Appealing head properties, a kind eye. Carrying good bone for her size and age, with well‑sprung ribs, and she stands on good feet. The best mover in the class, held her topline well on the move relaxed as if she had been competing for a lot longer effortless covering the ring.

2nd Wagh, Mrs D & Mr D, Lucoru Fire and Ice for Dewdhala 

An 11 month brown roan dog with a lovely head and kind expression, good front and hind angulation, and correct topline. Shown with good coat, and strong feet. Moved well but today just not as well as 1st place, could see these swapping places at open shows. 

3rd Bovio, Mrs KJ & Mr G, Ilsolo Sniffed It Once 

Class 23 Junior (1 entry / 0 Absent) 

1st Reay, Mrs C, Drurylowe Sage 

Standing alone this 1 year old dog, has nice head planes and good proportions. A little straight in stifle but this did not stop him moving well around the ring today, kept a sound topline.  

Class 24 Post Graduate (4 entries / 1 Absent) 

1st Coldwell, Mrs LA, Lucoru Perpetual Spring 

Approaching 3 years old this is a feminine bitch, she has a refined head, lovely expression, strong neck into well‑laid shoulders, and good depth and width of chest with ribs well back. Well presented, she moved soundly and held her topline round the ring.  

2nd Bovio, Mrs K, Star at Station with Ilsolo 

A 19 month old bitch, nice for her size and overall quality. Has lovely feminine head and expression, a squarely built outline, and a strong neck. Showing good depth and width of chest, well‑sprung ribs, and a short loin, with moderate rear angulation. Remained sound and covered the ring with ease. Presented in good coat and handled well.  

3rd Mann, Mrs T, August Dreamer

1st Mann, Mrs T, Make a Splash 

This 2 year old dog has a masculine head set full of quality, divergent planes, muzzle good depth, and kind expression, with a good strong neck flowing into well angulated, powerful shoulders. Well‑sprung ribs and is well balanced in body, holding his topline on the move and presented in good condition. Just preferred his free flowing easy stride around the ring today, to give him the win.

A lovely 6.5 year old bitch, who is not showing her age, pleasing type and excellent overall balance. Has a nicely proportioned head with correct planes, good shoulder angulation, carries the typical Spinone topline. Nice coat, and good rear angulation, moved well and a tough call between her and my winner today.

1st Burler, Mr DA & Miss BM, Almonrigg Sweet Honey Baby at Jendella’s 

A nicely maturing bitch at just over 2 years old, lively, and happy on entering the ring. feminine and balanced outline with a kind expression, dark eye. Head is typical and refined, supported by a strong, muscular neck. Well sprung ribs, well angulated quarters. She holds her topline both standing and, on the move, demonstrating soundness and balance throughout. For me showed the better movement today.

Another nice bitch over 8 years old but not showing it, very feminine and of excellent overall. Good balance and correctness in construction from every angle. Feminine head typical sweet expression, dark eyes. Presented in excellent condition coat, well‑muscled well‑angulated hindquarters. Moved well sound, steady, and capable, just thought my first placed bitch delivered more drive around the ring.

1st Rodger, Mrs C, Minstergate Celebration 

A nice 9 month old bitch with a clean outline. Balanced and feminine throughout, well made with sufficient bone. She shows good depth of brisket and correct fill through the loin, with a well angulated rear and muscle tone. She moved well coming and going, maintaining a good shape in profile. Will go far on this showing.

Just short of 1 year old, this feminine young bitch presents a clean outline. Her ribcage extends well back into a short, strong loin. She shows good bend of stifle with straight, well set hocks, and she moved soundly and with purpose around the ring and a tough call between the two of them today. 

3rd Longbottom & Milby, Miss R & Mr P, Gunalt Beewicked

17 month old bitch, well constructed and presented in good condition. She has a well proportioned head with bright eyes and neatly folded ears, giving her feminine expression. Good movement on display around the ring front reach and strong rear drive. Well, handled.

At just 13 months old this masculine dog is maturing nicely, a good head pleasing in size, he has good body proportions, width, and bone, with balanced fore and hind quarters. Moved well in the ring today, just came up against a good bitch.  

3rd Hostler, Mrs TA, Theondale High Hopes 

Class 79 Post Graduate (3 entries / 1 Absent) 

1st Moore, Mr AJ & Mrs KS, Theondale Mave the Rave at Cavalmist 

Two very nice bitches in this class. She looks feminine, and approaching two, she has matured nicely, with a balanced outline, correct height‑to‑length proportions, and good depth of chest. Head correct muzzle‑to‑forehead proportions and a soft, pleasing expression, good sized ears. Moved around the ring well. 

2nd Spavins & Chevalier, Mrs JM & Mr PC & Miss R, Weipowa Wild Flush for Ashstern 

Another feminine girl at just over 2 years old, right for her age and shown in good condition. A clean, balanced outline with good style, nice head set with correct ears, eyes and mouth, giving her the classic aristocratic expression. Good angulation fore and hind, correct proportions, and a pleasing body shape. Movement at easy, ground‑covering stride with a level topline. Well handled throughout. 

Class 80 Open (4 entries / 1 Absent) 

1st Anderson, Mr J & Mrs C, Gunalt Gift of the Gab 

At 2 years old this very feminine bitch, was on top form today. Presenting a lovely balanced outline with good proportions, kind expression and we set ears giving a nice headsets, straight and strong forequarters and well angulated hindquarters. She covered the ring effortlessly, demonstrating the athleticism and confidence expected at this age, coat in great condition. Handler got the best out of her.

At just over 2 years old this bitch presents a balanced outline. She has a pleasing head with a kind eye and correct ear length. Deep chested with well‑sprung ribs, lovely bone and a clean outline with good balance and proportions, strong rear angulation and low‑set hocks. Stacked and well and moved effortlessly around the ring. Another couple of bitches that will swap places regulalry.
