Thank you to Jacky Cutler for inviting me to judge at this very prestigious dog show. Initially, I only asked her if she could find me some Cairn Terrier classes, as I was a couple short for the RKC to pass me to give CCs in the breed. I ended up judging a number of different breeds over the Toy, Hound, Pastoral, Utility and Gundog groups, plus Terriers. I enjoyed my day very much, with so many breeds, classes and dogs to judge. It culminated in me having the honor and pleasure of judging Best Puppy in Show. A special thank you to Nick, Yvonne and other stewards, for helping me through the day.

BEST PUPPY IN SHOW – Samuel’s Siberian Husky, Clehatro Psychic Vortex at Hazylights. A very attractive 9 months old Siberian Husky bitch puppy. So balanced, with good substance, showing off a wonderful profile. She has the correct finely chiseled foxlike head. Slightly rounded on top, tapering gradually from widest point to eyes. Skull and muzzle of equal length and defined stop. Obliquely set almond shaped eyes and high set ears relatively close together. Lovely arched neck, well laid shoulders and straight forelegs. Enough depth of chest for her age, level topline, slope over croup to a low set tail, with well bent stifles, low set hocks and neat oval feet. She excels on the move with an easy ground covering action. Presented with a good double coat. I shall follow her career with interest.

RESERVE BEST PUPPY IN SHOW – Hunter’s Whippet, Katiesue’s Attraction at Salatini. Another lovely youngster with such beautiful flowing lines, required of a whippet. So elegant with a graceful outline. Again, her movement won her the place. Correct long, lean head, flat on top, tapering to muzzle. Expressive eyes and rose shaped ears. Elegantly arched neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Straight forelegs, tight oval feet with well arched knuckled toes. Deep chest and correct graceful arch over loin coming well. Definite tuck up. Hindquarters are also developing well. Correct length of tail and tail set. Presented in lovely coat and condition with a very attractive color. 

There were a couple of other puppies worthy of consideration, but unfortunately, decided not to move well and had enough after a long day.

SPECIAL YEARLING (1)

1. Cooper’s Balthazar Endless Love for Settrenda. Appears to have a rounded head, fairly large in comparison to body. Definite stop between muzzle and skull. Correct mouth. Good shoulders and appears to have longer legs. Short backed and muscled hindquarters. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

LIMIT (1)

1. Rouse’s Balthazar Hello C’Est Moi. Litter sister to above, who I prefer a lot more. Black nose with large nostrils and definite stop between muzzle and skull. Slightly undershot mouth with even teeth. She has a much better body shape, providing a better outline. A nice harsh, wiry coat. Good high set tail. Moved well, freely with drive from the rear. BEST OF BREED.

MINIATURE PINSCHER

PUPPY (2)

1. Cook’s Pernickety Kwazy. Nice puppy, presenting a square outline. Lovely, shaped head with well set neat ears, good dark eyes and correct bite. Gently arched neck flowing into well placed shoulders. Square body with ribs well sprung, deep rather than barreled. Straight legs. Correct topline and well-set tail. Super coat. Smaller in type, but with excellent classic hackney movement. I know she is a toy, but I would have still liked a little more bone even for a puppy. The standard states they should be sturdy. BEST PUPPY.

2. Holman’s Pernickety Playgirl. A 7-month-old puppy bitch of quite a different type, with the correct amount of bone for me. I felt her body shape let her down in that she was too fat and barrel ribbed for me. She decided not to walk and appeared to move wide in front. Movement is hard to assess when dogs refuse to walk properly. She had well developed hindquarters and is very muscular.

SPECIAL YEARLING (2)

1. King’s Adurus Constellation. A very nice young black and tan bitch with lots to like. Elegant and feminine, with a super shape. Impressive for overall balance. She has a good head with flat skull, appealing dark eyes and small, erect ears set on high. Slightly arched neck, fitting well into shoulders. Straight legs and cat-like feet. Her topline flows to a well-set tail, which appears damaged. Hindquarters well developed.

1. Holman’s Adurus Golden Fleece. A mature red dog, who is very outgoing. He has a lovely profile. Masculine head with small well-set ears and dark eyes giving a keen expression. One ear appears a little soft at times. Arched neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Elbows close to body. Nice straight legs deep chest, well bodied and firm topline. Good hind angulation and sweep of stifle. Nicely boned. On the move he impresses with coordinated hackney action with drive from the rear. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

2. Hurrell’s Church Bank Dark Angel. A lot younger than above, lighter boned and not so outgoing. Super shiny coat. A weaker head, but she is a bitch. Straight back line. Moved very well.

1. King’s Adurus Pyledriver. A well-marked black and tan dog, who meets the standard with his showmanship. Truly proud, completely self-possessed with a spirited presence. He has a very nice head, good muzzle with correct bite, dark eyes and good ears. Good arch of neck into well laid shoulders. Straight front legs with cat-like feet. Deep chest, well sprung ribs and firm topline. Correct tail set and good rear angulation. Sound mover with nice lift and rear drive. Shiny black coat with well-placed rich tan and pencil markings. BEST OF BREED.

2. Cook’s Pernickety Loonie. Quite a nice bitch, who is shorter and thicker in type but well put together. Not so strong in head as the dog. Excellent hackney movement. Nice topline and tail set. She may have had puppies, making her thicker in body.

PUPPY (1)

1. Waller & Maskell’s Baillion Black is Black with Lilnrose. A 7-month-old puppy dog, who I hope does not grow any more. His head is so attractive with very large, heavily fringed mobile ears. Which he is using all the time. It is like a true butterfly! He has an abundance of long fine silky coat, for one so young. Level topline and well fringed long tail, set on high, arched over his back with fringes falling to the side as a plume. Being larger, he has good bone. Hare-like feet developing. BEST PUPPY.

SPECIAL YEARLING (2)

I considered both lovely dogs in different ways.

1. Holmes’ Summerjades Fire Cracker. To me, he appeared to be the more old-fashioned type of Papillon. A very attractive dog with much breed appeal. In particular his head and expression. He has lovely round dark eyes and beautifully set and carried ears, giving the desired butterfly appearance. Balanced in outline with a good topline and carrying a lovely coat. He moved freely and happily with a light, positive action, presenting a most pleasing picture both standing and on the go.

2. Carter’s Graycaz Making Moonlight. A real masculine, elegant dog, with so much to like. Wonderful ears. I found his feet very noticeable. They are fine, fairly long and hare-like. He had tufts of hair between his toes extending far beyond them. He has a good, level topline and super tail set. Well boned and nicely proportioned throughout. He moved correctly, free-flowing and lightly. However, he would not put his front right foot down and his feet were turned out.

LIMIT (1)

1. Simm’s Summerjade’s Snow Queen with Ezhar. I feel this is what a female Papillon should look like. She is a tricolor bitch, lively, outgoing, and full of charm. Dainty and well-balanced, she presents a very pretty head with dark, expressive eyes and a finely pointed muzzle. Her symmetrical head markings and clearly defined white blaze enhance her overall appeal. Well-constructed, with good angulation to both front and rear. She moved confidently around the ring, holding a level topline throughout, on her pretty hare-like feet. A delightful bitch. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

1. Carter’s Graycaz on a Mission JW. A quality dog and a true showman. Masculine, but still dainty. Although I do not believe it is a real fault, I wish he had a better blaze. The blaze is supposed to be the body of the butterfly and the ears his wings. He has wonderful very large mobile ears, which he uses. He has lovely forequarters, straight front legs finishing with the hare-like feet. Good depth of chest and level topline. I would have preferred not quite such a tight tail curl, for perfection. He has a wonderful coat and moves very well. BEST OF BREED.

2. Holmes’ Kasper Margenis at Summerjade (IMP LIT). Another nice type of tricolored dog, who deserves to be in the Open class. He is dainty and well-balanced, presenting a beautiful head with symmetrical markings surrounding a clean white blaze. His finely pointed muzzle, black nose, and correct scissor bite add to his overall refinement. He appears to have messed up his teeth. Not so important in a Toy and he has a good scissor bite. Well-constructed with a good level topline and better tail hold. Correct hare-like feet, that were turned out a little too much in front for me. He moves gracefully around the ring, displaying a light, free-flowing action. Such elegance and charm.

PORTUGUESE PODENGO (WARREN HOUND)

SPECIAL YEARLING (1)

1. Cross’ Kalispell’s Fonzarelli Loggeta (IMP PRT). A very eye catching young smooth Podengo with such a lovely personality and style. He needs time to develop into the finished product. Super refined well-proportioned wedge-shaped head. Moderate sized dark expressive eyes. Large thin triangular well set ears. Strong neck and straight parallel forelegs. Good topline and correct ribbing. Nicely muscled hindquarters. Correct feet and tail. Moved lightly and soundly. Will watch his future with interest. BEST OF BREED. Pleased to see that he went Group Three in the Hound Group.

LIMIT (1)

1. Foscoe’s Eximus Vis Bathory Aria at Zenabraao (IMP FIN). An attractive 2-year-old bitch with a lovely personality. Good feminine head and expression. High set tail, curved over her back when moving. Strong muscled hindquarters, aiding her to move well. She looks she would be very good doing the work intended for her. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

BORDER COLLIE

PUPPY (1)

1. Turn’s Anastasia Du Domaine De Singhara Avec Fyglia (IMP FRA). A lovely 10-month-old bitch puppy, who acted a bit nervous. Rather heavily built and boned, with a thick quality adult coat and heavy ears for a show Border bitch of this age. She would make a lovely dog. Well-constructed body, giving a well-balanced outline. Very muscled hindquarters, aiding her with her super movement. Moving out well in front and with good thrust behind, with minimum lift of feet, which are good. Just lacks refinement for me, but very fit for purpose. BEST PUPPY.

1. Turn’s Fyglia Cherish Mustardseed. Merle bitch of excellent colour and distribution. Having a nice overall shape. Pretty feminine head, with expressive eyes and using her erect ears well. Good bone and feet. Well-proportioned body, good length of neck, with excellent hindquarter muscles. Tail of correct length and good oval feet with arched toes. Moved freely and smoothly up and down, with good side gait and minimum lift of feet. Fit for purpose. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

2. Jones’ Sianworth Rustic Flame for Keltiklan. Sable bitch, 4 years old. I like her medium sized semi-erect ears, set well apart and correctly shaped eyes, giving keen expression. She could have a little more bone and body for me. Tail of correct length and set.

1. Gadenne, Ratcliffe & Green’s Arrodare No Matter What. This is the type of show Border Collie I like. When I see the breeding, I can see why. A 4-year-old black and white bitch full of quality. The exhibitor advised me afterwards she has not been shown recently, hence not really showing herself off to her full potential. The type of head I like, with dark expressive eyes, balanced skull, defined stop and well-set ears. Lovely reach of neck and well-placed shoulders. Good depth of brisket, straight forelegs of good bone with oval well-padded feet. Correct proportions, well-muscled hindquarters. Good turn of stifle and well let down hocks. She used these to her advantage on the move, moving with free, smooth easy action. Minimum lift of feet so could go for miles. Long tail, well set. With care, she will improve in topline and coat again. I wish her well. I see she has won well in the past and should do again in the future. BEST OF BREED.

ESTRELLA MOUNTAIN DOG

OPEN (1)

1. McKinlay, Johnson, Hall & Hall’s Kayarrach Wish Upon a Star. Stood alone, but a lovely example of the breed. A mature 3-Year-old black masked red fawn bitch of good quality. Feminine, but she has plenty of substance and bone, providing a super outline. She has a long powerful head, with broad rounded skull, moderate stop and correct muzzle. Good sized black nose. Neat ears are well shaped and set. Medium sized dark oval eyes giving ‘the calm intelligent expression’. Well set on neck supporting the desired ruff, with moderately sloping shoulders. Strong round boned forelegs. Good depth of body with excellent topline. Well-muscled thighs, moderate angulation and hocks. Excellent oval feet and tightly closed toes. Correct low set tail forming a distinctive hook at the end. She has wonderful free easy purposeful movement. Presented in super weatherproof double coat of lovely colour and texture. I am not surprised she is very well loved by her handler. BEST OF BREED.

HUNGARIAN PULI

SPECIAL YEARLING (2)

1. Symonds’ Morrioghain Pablo. Nice black dog. Correct head of good proportions, with well-defined stop. Medium sized dark brown eyes and V shaped ears, well set. Good bite and pigment. Well-constructed and level back. Strong muscled hindquarters, with well-bent stifles. He insisted on moving up and down sideways, making it difficult to assess movement. Side gait OK. He has an abundance of coat.

LIMIT (2)

1. Hudson’s Mournebrake Also an Angel. This is the type of Puli I like. To me, an excellent example of his breed with the typical square outline. His head proportions are correct with a slightly domed skull, well defined stop, dark brown eyes, and medium ears set correctly with excellent pigmentation. Muscular neck of medium length, well laid shoulders, tight elbows, straight forelegs with correct bone. Good depth of chest and spring of rib, level back, short strong loin, and slight slope over croup to a correctly carried tail. Muscled hindquarters with well bent stifles and low set hocks. Nicely corded white coat, well presented. Moved well with a lively gait. BEST OF BREED.

2. Thomas’ Mournebrake Fifty Shades TAF. Not the showman or style of above. Well boned and presented in lovely condition. Another that would not move correctly, therefore difficult to assess the movement.

1. Hudson’s Mournebrake Archangel. A 4-year-old dog of correct bone and quality, medium sized with a squarish outline. Relatively small head with dark brown eyes and well-set ears. Blunt, rounded muzzle. Muscular neck. Strong forequarters with well laid shoulders and straight forelegs. Short loin. Ribs broad and deep with slight tuck up. Strong hindquarters with well-muscled thighs and correct bend of stifles. Rear hocks fairly low and parallel. Tail correctly set and carried. Short, tight, round feet. Coat well corded, dark grey with various shades. Short, brisk gait. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

2. Symonds’ Alicia Vikander (IMP RUS). Quite a different type. Very good mouth with correct pigmentation. Typical Puli head. Light pastoral movement.

CHOW CHOW

What wonderful Chow Chows, some with smooth and some with rough coats. All of super quality, I am sure they would not be better examples at a championship show!

PUPPY (1)

1. Bone & Markillie’s Newfangled Buckee Burr. An 11-month-old red puppy dog, who is absolutely wonderful in every way. So bodied and developed for a puppy. Compact, short coupled, well balanced and standing four square. Fabulous head, masculine, but not overdone. Correct mouth with strong, level teeth and right pigmentation. Flat, broad skull with nicely placed small ears tilting well to set off the scowl expression. Strong broad muzzle with super eye shape to complete the picture. Good neck flowing into sloping shoulders. Straight forelegs and small round catlike feet. Well sprung ribs for age with strong short loin and well-set tail. Moderate hindquarters and in excellent coat and condition for one so young. He moves so freely and soundly, in the correct Chow Chow fashion. Very well presented in excellent condition and rough coat. A certain champion of the future. He pushed one of my favorites hard for BOB, who I know has become a champion. BEST PUPPY & RESERVE BEST OF BREED. Pleased to see he went Reserve Best Utility Puppy.

LIMIT (2)

1. Markillie’s Kingrock Rock Steel for Vinstere. A blue short coated dog. Who I think is an excellent specimen. Absolutely superb, such a showman. Solidly built and making the most of himself at all times. Good masculine head with broad, flat skull, thick ears of correct set, excellent eyes, muzzle of correct length to balance, scissor bite and very good pigmentation. Good scowling expression. Excellent neck, strong, firm and level topline. Good depth to brisket, well sprung ribs and nice short loin. Tail set high and carried well over his back. He stands well on cat-like feet. Matching angulation both ends and well-muscled hindquarters. Wonderful Chow Chow movement. Presented in excellent coat. 

2. Webb’s Beaconpride Juniper Berry at Chifido JW. Lovely black shaded bitch, who provides a super outline and head. Compact body, of good proportions. Balanced head, broad skull, good bite and pigment. Neat small ears typically set, giving correct expression. Good neck, set on correctly placed shoulders. Well boned and bodied. Correct moderate hindquarters. Stood on super cat-like feet. High set tail, carried well over her back. Moved with a relatively short stride and quite close behind.  

OPEN (2)

1. Fisher’s Shulian San Angelo Star at Poppykins JW ShCEx OSW. This Chow Chow is one of my favorites. I made him Best Puppy in Show at an Open Show in his early days. I have watched him mature and develop over the years. He has recently become a very worthy champion, with his daughter beating him to it. Super head, with flat, broad skull. Padded square muzzle. Large and wide black nose. Characteristic bluish-black tongue, with roof of mouth and flues black. Dark, clean eyes and small, slightly rounded tipped ears correctly set to give the scowling expression. Good width and depth of chest. Ribs well sprung and level topline. Well-boned and muscled. In excellent condition and presented in abundance of rough shaded red coat with ruff around his neck. Moves well in a true Chow fashion. Nice tight feet. BEST OF BREED. Placed Group Four in Utility Group.

2. Webb’s Grozio Akcentas Doja Chifido (IMP NOR). A very nice black smooth bitch of 4 years old. Balanced throughout with correct proportions. She has a good balanced head with correct pigmentation. Clean, dark, oval eyes but I did not feel her ears tilted forward so much to give the required scowling expression. She has a good reach of neck and depth of body, short coupled, with a level topline. Moved briskly, in the correct Chow Chow fashion. She has good bone and lovely cat-like feet. Presented in good condition. 

RETRIEVER (NOVA SCOTIA DUCK TOLLING)

SPECIAL YEARLING (3)

1. Rice’s Tiamaria Bella Rosa. A very promising bitch, just over a year old. A lovely type of Toller, compact, powerful and well-muscled. Giving the impression she could work all day. She was very well balanced with a super outline. Well-proportioned feminine head. Clean cut skull, slightly wedge shaped. Almond shaped brown eyes and good flesh pigmentation, creating the desired expression. Moderate stop. Triangular dropped ears, set correctly. Good length of neck, flowing into well-laid shoulders. Straight, strong forelegs going down to good pasterns. Nice sternum and depth of chest. Ribs well sprung, with brisket reaching elbows. Level topline and strong loins. Stifles well bent, well-muscled hindquarters and hocks well let down. All of this contributed to her being the one of the best movers in the breed on the day, with plenty of reach and drive. She carried her tail correctly and used it to advantage, flashing that tip well and clearly enjoying her time in the ring. Presented in good coat, to complete the picture. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

2. Powley’s Tiamaria Fire Opal at Danehaven. I see he is brother to above, but in my opinion, she excels more in breed type. His head, eye shape and ear set are good, giving a friendly, intelligent expression. A strong neck and straight forelegs. Deep ribcage, level topline and well-muscled hindquarters. Tail is well-feathered and reaches the hock. Feet are tight with well-arched toes. He appeared to move very wide in front on the day. Presented in good condition.

3. Powley’s Danehaven Morell.

LIMIT (4) 

1. Rice’s Tiamaria Juniper Berry. Another super bitch, who is half-sister to my Special Yearling winner. No wonder I picked her as my Best of Breed and half-sister as Reserve. She has much the same attributes. An excellent type with super style and balance, power correct bone and well-muscled body, being very fit for purpose. She had the best outline and movement. Lovely well-proportioned feminine head with almond shaped dark eyes, giving a soft expression. Broad skull and triangular ears well set on high. Moderate stop. Good neck, flowing into well laid shoulders. Straight forelegs on round tight feet. Good topline, muscled loin and well bent stifles. Tail with white tip well set on and carried. Presented in good coat of attractive color. Moved with plenty of reach at the front and drive from the rear. BEST OF BREED.

2. Hey’s Danehaven Deeks. Another moderate, well-balanced dog with good breed type. Quite nice head with correct ear set, giving a good breed expression. Nice neck flowing into well placed shoulders. Good tail with white tip, held well on the move. Good overall proportions and nicely balanced. A nice all-round type, scoring in different ways above the others.

1. Collins & Powley’s Sh Ch Devero Duchess of Danehaven. Now a Veteran, in her day, I expect she was very nice. She has a really beautiful outline. Excellent, well-proportioned head. Broad skull, moderate stop, kind dark almond-shaped eyes, blending with coat colour, with expressive ears. Straight forelegs of good bone. Strong neck, flowing into well laid shoulders. With a level topline and well sprung ribs. Well bent stifles. In very good muscular condition and fit for purpose. Thick double coat and tail. Moved jauntily with power.

2. Fincham’s Danehaven MacDonalds. A larger, taller dog, hheavier in build but in no way course. He was a bit silly about his backend. I expect a judge may have spoilt him. He has a nice masculine well shaped head, with moderate stop and flat cheeks. High set ears. Clean neck leading to well laid shoulders. Deep in chest with good spring of ribs. Strong hindquarters, with good bone and feet. Moved quite well.

BORDER TERRIER

PUPPY (3)

1. Hall’s Borderrush Riscal Rioja. This bitch won her place on her movement. At 11 months old, she is maturing nicely, presented in excellent coat and condition. She has a feminine ‘otter’ like head, broad in skull and short strong muzzle. Dark eyes and correct sized ears to finish the picture. She produces the right outline with good neck flowing into well set shoulders, straight legs and correct feet. She is well ribbed, easily spanned, with good pelt and correct hindquarters. She has a very nice shaped tail, well set on and carried correctly. Presented in harsh coat and moved so well. BEST PUPPY.

2. Rose’s Ardenholm Prince of Thieves. Another very nice puppy, showing a good outline. A well-balanced dog with a good head and keen expression. Moderate neck flowing into good shoulders, straight forelegs and neat feet. Nice topline, hindquarters and tail set. Thick pelt and comfortably spanned. Excellent coat, with nice bone. Just a shade loose in front movement, which cost him 1st place. I hope it will improve as he matures.

3. Flowers’ Bingobongo’s Fenwick.

JUNIOR (1)

1. Hall’s Borderrush The Last Sprout. She got frightened, which was a shame. A little unsure on the table and did not carry her tail up all the time on the move. A very nice type. Feminine head. Good scissor bite with super teeth. Dark eyes and ears falling close to cheeks. Correct length of body and level topline. Racy hindquarters and correct tail set. Spannable with thick pelt. Nice small feet. Lovely harsh, dense coat. Moved OK when settled.

POST GRADUATE (3)

1. Tuffin’s Flegato Fidelio at Oatberry. My notes state - my type of Border with a lovely shape. Don’t understand why he is still in Post Graduate! 3 years old, so he is coming into his prime. Has a very attractive masculine head with moderately broad skull. Strong muzzle and good mouth. Moderate length of neck, good shoulders and lovely straight forelegs. Good topline and ribs carried well back. Spannable, with good pelt. Nice tail, well set and carried correctly. Presented in super harsh coat. He has wonderful movement, capable of following a horse. This enabled him to win this class and BEST OF BREED.

2. Flowers’ Bingobongo’s Jubilee. A rather small bitch and looks as if she has had puppies. But of a nice type. Feminine, with a moderately broad skull and short, strong muzzle. She has a nice body shape. Straight forelegs with sufficient bone. Easily spanned. Strong loin. Racy hindquarters. Excellent coat. A very sound mover. 

3. Hall’s Borderrush Bean and Gone.

LIMIT (3)

1. Tuffin’s Southash Lavender Blue at Oatberry. The type I like. Blue and tan bitch in superb harsh coat and thick pelt. Just 7 years old with a very good scissor bite. Feminine ‘otter’ head with neat ears. Dark eyes with keen expression. Nice length of neck and body. Ribs carried well back and good topline. Correct racy hindquarters. Smart neat feet with deep pads. Correct tail and tail set. Another with very good mover. She just flowed smoothly around the ring. Easy to span. Just lovely. RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

2. Hall’s Borderrush Beeble Honey. Not the showman of above, but a nice type, with good balance. Well-proportioned head, dark eyes and keen expression with well set on ears. Well laid shoulders, straight forelegs and small, neat feet. Good top line and tail set. In good coat and spanned well. Moved steadily. 

3. Rose’s Bramblesgate Hope N Glory.

1. Tuffin’s Hartswelin Veritas with Oatberry. I see I judged this chap 4 years ago and gave him Best of Breed. My critique said – ‘The type of Border I like. Easily spannable and fit to do his work, if required. Super outline. When handled on the table, everything flowed. Correct ‘otter’ type head. Nicely bodied. Presented in excellent harsh, dense coat. Small feet. Moved very well, covering the ground.’ The same applies now. He is going grey and still has a super mouth, which I like in a terrier, still fit to do his work. No wonder I placed him second to the champion Cesky in the Veteran class. 

2. Hall’s Borderrush Rambutan JW. A bitch I have given high awards in the past. She is of lovely quality and has the harshest of coats. A nice feminine head with the ‘otter’ look. Skull moderately broad, small ears and dark keen eyes. Also has a very good mouth. Moderate length of neck flowing into correct shoulders. Deep narrow body with ribs carried well back and strong loins. Correct hindquarters. Spannable with good pelt. She is a nice type but did not move as well as above on the day. Mother of my Best Puppy, so produces quality offspring.

PUPPY (2)

1. Saich’s Lindcoly Beautiful Zuri. I thought this one had a better Cairn head. 11 months old, a little apprehensive but will get better as time goes on. I like to see Cairn Terriers ‘free standing’. A super attractive wheaten color with dark points. Head in proportion to body. Broad skull with decided indentation between the eyes and definite stop. Eyes set correctly and small pointed ears. Super body and outline. She is developing a good, harsh weather-proof coat with furnishings. Lovely to go over and moved well. BEST PUPPY & RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

2. Bambridge’s My Boy Ronnie at Beckstone. A month younger and did not seem so mature. Lacking head furnishings. When they are grown it should enhance the head. A very nice type of Cairn Terrier, with lots to like. Presented in the correct harsh coat for a puppy. Moved very well, freely and smoothly, with reach and drive.

SPECIAL YEARLING (1)

1. Saich’s Lindcoly This is the One. ‘What a Cracker’. Still young to be in this class. To me, she is what a Cairn should look like, with a superb attractive head, which is in proportion to her body. Broad skull, indentation between her eyes and definite stop. Good muzzle and furnishings coming well. Dark eyes, set wide a part slightly sunk under her shaggy eyebrows, finished with small, pointed ears. Well set neck flowing into sloping shoulders. Level back and muscular hindquarters. Lovely carrot shaped tail, correctly set. In good waterproof harsh coat. Finished off with nice feet. She moves in a gay free flowing action. BEST OF BREED.

LIMIT (2)

1. Saich’s Lindcoly Here Comes Oh Shi. Another nice wheaten bitch from this kennel. She has the correct well-proportioned Cairn head of a good shape. Dark eyes set wide apart, slightly sunk. I thought she has better breed type, length and shape of body, also coat, than the 2nd placed. She has an excellent double, with harsh weather-proof outer coat and soft undercoat. Not often found now, with so many show dogs housed indoors. She moved very well.

2. Purvis’ Mosspur Moving Shadows. A nice 2-year-old red bitch with dark points, who decided not to co-operate with her handler when moving, making it difficult to assess. Which was a shame. She looked attractive when stood, showing off a good outline. She has a very nice head. Correct skull and muzzle, dark eyes set apart and sunk, giving a super expression. Neck flowing into well placed shoulders. A touch longer in body than I would like but nice hindquarters and good feet. Good coat texture.

1. Saich’s Lindcoly Ocean Dream. My notes say – ‘By far the best in outline and coat.’ A shame she did not put on the best movement performance in the challenge against her kennel mates. She is such a showman, standing out showing her lovely profile. So much to like about her. She has a very nice quality head with all the Cairn characteristics described of her kennelmates. In particular, her eyes and stop. She has an excellent front, good topline, ribbing, strong loin, hindquarters and correct carrot tail. Very nice coat of silver brindle colour. She is sound on the move but would lean into her handler, resulting in moving close behind, which I am sure she is not. Wonderful harsh coat.

2. Purvis’ Mosspur Time and Again. Another who did not want to work with his handler. I see he is mature in age and should know better. He looks lovely when stood on the table, showing off his super head, defined stop, with correct eyes and expression, along with small, pointed ears. Excellent front and feet with good spring of rib. Good harsh coat texture. Presented in lovely condition.

1. Saletti’s Jojase Ciara Firestorm. Feminine bitch with substance. Only just 6 months old, with head still developing. Super gentle temperament. Very good strong Terrier mouth. Feminine head and proportions correct for age. Moderate length of neck flowing into a good shoulder placement. Deep chest with short loin. Moderate hindquarters. Moved well, showing promise, but needs time to mature.

SPECIAL YEARLING (2)

1. Saletti’s Jojase Clancy Thunderstorm. Litter brother to the above, more mature and holding himself a lot better. Nicely balanced masculine head with good pigment and pleasing expression. Good width of skull, powerful foreface and defined stop. Round eyes and rose ears. Nice front assembly with well laid-back shoulders and front legs slightly bowed. Correct length of body with slightly rising topline to a strong loin and developing hindquarters. Moving very well, with drive from the rear. Harsh coat of good texture. A promising puppy. BEST PUPPY & RESERVE BEST OF BREED.

2. Hannington’s Boudivella Dottie. This wheaten bitch did not seem at her best on the day, but she has a super head. Appeared shorter in body and not moving well. She has an attractive feminine head of correct proportions with dark eyes and keen expression. Well defined stop and correct muzzle.

LIMIT (1)

1. Hannington’s Boudivella Love Story JW. A very nice-looking dog, whose sire is one of my favourites. Smartly presented and well handled, as expected from this exhibitor. Excellent masculine head of correct proportions. Super squarish strong skull, with defined stop and good muzzle. Brown, round eyes, smallish rose ears and black nose. Excellent front with well boned, correctly bowed forelegs. Chest extending below his elbows. Topline slightly rising to a strong loin. Very well-muscled and fit for purpose. Harsh coat of good texture. Moved out with drive and purpose. BEST OF BREED.

1. Fairhurst’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Fairlenium’s Snow Storm. A very nice 10 months old dog puppy, who had a super temperament. Correct head, broad skull, with distinct furrow and stop. Correct length of muzzle. Dark round eyes looking forward and rose ears. Correct dentition and length of neck. Good lay of shoulders and well boned straight forelegs. Level topline, short loin, noticeable waist and tuck up. Well-muscled hindquarters. Presented in very good condition. Moved well for a dog of this age. A little long on leg for me at the moment, but body may well develop to legs as he matures. Otherwise, a very promising puppy. BEST PUPPY & RESERVE BEST A.V.N.S.C. TERRIER.

SPECIAL YEARLING (2)

1. Last’s Welsh Terrier, Kenbloom He’s The Headliner. Correct well proportioned ‘brick’ head, with little stop. Good V shaped small ears set on high carried closed to cheek. Shoulders nicely sloping. Forelegs straight and muscular. Correct topline. Small cat-like feet. Moved OK.

2. Fletcher & Seedhouse’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Fairlenium Peter Parker at Granitangel. Red dog, masculine and strong. Similar breeding to the puppy, but not the type of head for me. Although, his round dark eyes, looking straight ahead were very nice. Shoulders well laid back, with forelegs straight and well boned. Straight topline and well-muscled hindquarters. This aided his good movement that flowed.

LIMIT (1)

1. McGregor, McGregor, Rose & Adlam’s Bull Terrier (Miniature), Bullyon Desperate Measure of Merlindan. A nice type. Quite a nice egg-shaped head, but profile curve just a tad too much for me. Eyes dark but not quite looking triangular enough. Well-rounded body of good shape. Moved better behind, beautifully presented and well handled.

1. Mountain’s Bull Terrier, Bilboen Wanderlust Opal. White bitch with dark ear patches, giving a well-balanced outline. A strong, muscled bitch who still looks feminine. This is the type of Bull Terrier head I like. Long, well filled and egg-shaped from the front, with top of skull almost flat. Profile curve gently downward, not ‘parrot like’. Super narrow, obliquely placed triangular eyes. Erect small ears placed on top of head close together. Good mouth. Muscular neck flows down to well-angled shoulders. Tight elbows held against chest and parallel forelegs. Well-sprung ribs and strong topline. Correct tail set, with tail carried horizontally. Giving her a superb profile. Moved OK for this breed. Well-handled and presented. BEST A.V.N.S.C. TERRIER.

2. Fletcher & Seedhouse’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Fairlenium Nordic Queen at Granitangel. A mature bitch of good type, full of substance and quality. She has a strong feminine head and correct round dark eyes looking forward. Rose ears and good scissor bite. A super front assembly, nicely boned, straight front legs and short neck. Level topline, close coupled body with nice depth of brisket. Good spring of ribs, well-muscled hindquarters and low set tail, to complete the picture. Moved freely with drive from the rear. Very well presented.

1. Burrage’s Cesky Terrier, Ch. Komidion Prima Donna of Sametova ShCEx VW. A worthy champion who I have judged before. A quality veteran who carries her age very well, like a number of Terriers. Super head with good length and stop, dark eye, well placed ears and good mouth. Good length of neck flowing into Correct shoulders, straight forelegs and topline. Ribs well sprung, giving a lovely rectangle profile. Neat feet. Propulsive movement. Good textured coat.

1. McCracken’s Scottish Terrier, Kingsview Just Matilda at Amawyn.I was most impressed with this 8-month-old bitch puppy. Such a pleasing character. Good length of well-proportioned head with nearly flat skull. Neat finely textured, pointed erect ears set on top of skull. Big teeth. Muscular neck and long sloping shoulders. Short back and well-rounded ribs. Powerful hindquarters coming. Good tail set with ‘shelf’ behind. Well presented, with good harsh, shiny black coat. Moved out smartly. Bbut decided she was too tired to challenge other puppies for Best Puppy in Show later. Which was a great shame.
