National Working and Pastoral Breeds Open Show

14th February 2026

Many thanks to the officers and committee for the kind invitation to judge at this very well-run show. Thanks to Doug for stewarding and keeping the ring in good order, and I very much appreciated the entry.

Hungarian Pumi

Post Graduate (1, 0)

1st) Johns’ Breezlyn Ears A Top Tip At Alepenkye, very smart 4 year old with a lot to like. Good head and correct ears for both set and carriage, feminine in head and skull but with strength; enough neck and good return of upperarm, firm topline and used her tail well on the move, in spite of the larger dogs in the next ring. Quite a lot to admire, and despite being the only one; I feel she would have won well in any company. BOB.

Norwegian Buhund

Limit Dog or Bitch (4, 2)

1st) Kent’s Knytshall Ragged Robin, very smart and shapely, good head and eye, very good ears and quite expressive in head. Good neck and shoulder, some depth to chest and he stands on good forelegs and feet. Well set and carried tail and in good muscular condition. A different shape to 2 and I preferred his balance standing and moving, but interesting to judge them both. RBOB.

2nd) Crocker’s Leggatts Superstition, lovely for size and body, not quite the outline of the winner standing or moving today and she could do with being a little firmer up and back. Notwithstanding, she has a lovely head and eye, a firm topline and neat underline; and does use herself well on the move, particularly in profile.

Open Dog or Bitch (3, 1)

1st) Wheeler’s Ch Knytshall Thistle Ink It Up Koromandel JW, not yet 2 and already carrying a well-deserved title. Stood away here today for type and balance, very good head and eye, super expression. Well made in front and has depth to her chest. Carries herself very well on the move and was certainly the most accurate in this entry up and back. Beautiful muscletone throughout. BOB and a pleasure to judge.

2nd) Guillod-Rees’ Draccus Obsidian at Bucamereru, different in type to the winner, being less forward in body, despite her relatively advanced age. Good head and eye, though not the expression of the winner. Fairly sound on the move, but had a hard time to match the accuracy of the winner. Very well handled.

Veteran Dog or Bitch (4, 2)

1st) Leggatts Voulez Vous, beautiful head and eye with a really lovely expression. Very good to go over, good neck and shoulder, firm topline and hindquarters choc full of muscle. Very accurate on the move which won her this place. Belies her years.

Pyrenean Mountain Dog

Puppy Dog or Bitch (2, 0)

1st) Baverstock’s Kalkasi The Eternal Quest, a very nice puppy to start, in fact both sisters were very nice with not a lot to choose between them. This bitch is a little taller and longer than her sister at present, and in some ways, this helped on the flooring as she did go with a very free and easy action. I liked her head and eye and preferred it to that of her sister on the day for expression and outlook. She is very good to go over and there is not a lot to change about her, I would have thought, at this tender age. A very free and accurate mover from all directions. I imagine her and her sister will change places many times and would also imagine they should both title.

2nd) Baverstock’s Kalkasi Eternal Destiny, very little to differentiate between these two bitches, perhaps she is a little shorter and smaller than her sister at the present time, and I did prefer, marginally, her sisters rear action. However, she is a beautiful bitch with a very expressive head and eye and has a lot going for her. Coped well with the flooring, albeit not as well as her sister. In super coat and condition, loved them both. Ch quality I would imagine.

Limit Dog or Bitch (1, 0)

1st) Kennedy and Kennedy’s Gamuvel Partou Via Dell Amore at Pyrcot (IMP LVA), presents a good make and shape standing, and has a nice outline. A little broad in skull for my ideal which does take away a little from her expression in my opinion, though this is minor when compared with her overall functionality. Still to mature through the body as yet, but she is well muscled and has balanced angulation front and rear. Sound and accurate enough on the move, and in very good condition throughout.

Open Dog or Bitch (4, 0)

1st) Baverstock’s Ch Kalkasi Just Because this dog was my BOB at SKC last year and I have not changed my opinion of him. He is unassuming and a calm dog who does not “hit” you the moment you see him, and he is not the largest of chaps. However, to go over he is so functional and correct, one cannot fail to be impressed by him. One of the few who wheeled their tail today, which I do like to see. I still thought he was lovely. BOB.

2nd) Kenyon’s Ch Charibere Simply The Sequel at Kaianna JW, interestingly, this dog was my RBD at SKC and I confess to not recognising him. I thought he was very upstanding and he does catch the eye because of his imposing stature. He doesn’t quite have the head of the winner I thought, and was a tiny bit less free in front on the go around than the winner was, but he cannot fail to impress and I also still like him very much. RBOB.

3rd) Kenyon’s Charibere Reason To Dream at Kaianna JW, interestingly my BB at SKC and another I didn’t recognise, so it was pleasing to see all three of them today. Lovely bitch.

Swedish Valhund

Yearling Dog or Bitch (2, 0)

1st) Dodd’s Tanellis Dare To Love, very nice shape and outline, super head and eye and really balanced in outline both standing and moving. Just the right amount of substance, and such a free, accurate and easy mover. In first class order. RBOB.

2nd) Smith’s Ruanticx Spyro The Dragon with Valladar, also a very nice one and a truly sound and accurate mover. Just heavier all through in terms of substance and also a carrying a mite too much body on the day, but one I would have been happy to have as a winner here as he is a quality chap.

Open Dog (1, 0)

1st) Jones’ Ch Tanellis Bloomin’ William, lovely chap, standing he presents a great outline and he keeps it on the move. Super head and eye, lovely ears, clean neck and shoulder, and good depth to his chest; carrying the right amount of weight for his stature and a really lovely mover in all directions. Pleasure to judge. BOB.

Open Bitch (2, 1)

1st) Dodd’s Ch Tanellis Bloomin’ Primose, lovely bitch, with a lot going for her and a really admirable sort. Beautiful head and eye, super make and shape throughout and a really good mover from all directions. Sadly threw away her chances in the challenge with a different handler, but another who it was a pleasure to judge in this small but quality entry.
