Breed: Irish Setter

Many thanks to the Committee for the kind invitation and warm Scottish hospitality, and to my Stewards for the smooth running of the day. Sincere thanks to the Exhibitors for their entry and for bringing quality to the ring. I thoroughly enjoyed going over some lovely examples of the breed.

1.Williamson’s Keljaru En Vogue – 1 year old on the day. Balanced, elegant and racy bitch. Presents a clean, refined outline. Lovely feminine head with well-defined stop. Dark, unshelled almond shape eyes. Ears set low and well back. Sweet and soft expression. Clean neck, slightly arched. Body of good length with good depth of chest. Ribs well sprung. Forequarters sound with correct shoulders. Gently sloping topline. Hindquarters moderately angulated. Correct tail set. Presented in beautiful coat and condition. Moved freely with good reach and drive. A very promising youngster. Best Puppy

2.Ruzsinszki’s & Ferrara’s Tottie Tango - 9 month’s old bitch, presents clean outline. Correct head with right proportions. Feminine and sweet expression. Correct dark eyes. Low set ears. Body of good length developing appropriately to age. Gently slopping topline. Hindquarters moderately angulated. Shown in lovely coat and condition. Promising baby, lost to number 1 on maturity.

1.Gilray’s Forfarian Take A Chance – 1 year old dog. A well balanced young dog, presenting clean outline. Masculine yet elegant throughout. Good head with a moderate stop. Dark eyes of correct shape. Ears set low. Kind and gentle expression. Shoulders placed correctly. Gently sloping topline. Body of good length with good depth of chest. Well sprung ribs. Hindquarters moderately angulated. Presented in good coat and condition. Moved soundly.

1. Boyd-Mcneil & Edward’s - Glennlokhen Chasing Dreams – . A well balanced young bitch. Feminine throughout. Clean, elegant and racy outline. Refined head with a moderate stop. Dark, unshelled almond shape eyes. Ears set low and well back. Sweet and gentle expression. Good reach of neck, slightly arched. Body of good length and proportions. Ribs well sprung. Good depth of chest. Shoulders well placed, with correct angulation. Topline showing correct gentle slope. Hindquarters moderately angulated. Presented in gleaming coat and condition. Moved freely and soundly showing good reach and drive. A very promising youngster.

2. Macfarlane’s Harelferg Macfarlane For Umfrido - A well balanced young dog. Masculine throughout while retaining elegance. Refined head with moderate stop. Correct dark eyes. Low set ears. Kind and gentle expression. Clean neck and slightly arched. Gentle slopping topline. Body of good length and proportions. Ribs well sprung. Correct depth of chest. Well placed shoulders with correct angulation. Straight forelegs. Correctly angulated and muscular hindquarters. Presented in good coat, which just needs time to complete. Moved soundly.

A close call between my top contenders.

1.Macflarlane’s Harelferg New Tricks For Umfrido ShCEx – A well balanced dog throughout, strong yet elegant and racy in outline. Clean refined and lean head with correct stop. Lovley shaped, dark eyes. Ears set low. Kind and gentle expression. Good reach of neck, slightly arched. Holds topline well both standing and on the move. Good body proportions with correct depth of chest and good spring of ribs. Shoulders well placed, of correct angulation. Sound front assembly. Hindquarters strong, powerful and muscular. Correct rear angulation. Presented in good coat and condition. Moved freely with good reach and drive.

2. Walker’s – Gwendariff Hanky Panky(JW) - A balanced dog, shows good strength and substance while retaining elegance. Clean refined head with a moderate stop. Dark eyes of correct shape. Ears set low and well back. Kind and gentle expression. Neck slightly arched. Shoulders well set. Gently sloping topline. Body of good length with good depth of chest. Well sprung ribs. Hindquarters moderately angulated. Presented in good coat and condition. Moved soundly. Unlucky to meet the class winner on the day.

3. Ruzsinszki’s & Ferrara’s Tottie Tango

1.Walker’s – Gwendariff Ucant Touch This(JW)- A well balanced dog, strong yet elegant and racy in outline. Clean refined head, of good proportions with moderate stop. Dark almond shaped eyes. Correct ears. Expression soft and kind. Neck clean and slightly arched. Correctly sloping topline, which he held well on the move. Body of good length. Correct depth of chest. Well sprung ribs. Good front assembly with well-placed shoulders. Hindquarters strong and powerful, correct rear angulation. Well set tail. Shown in good coat and condition. Moved freely with good reach and drive.

2. Gilray’s – Jonola Singapore Sling - A balanced dog, outline shows good strength and substance while retaining elegance. Attractive refined head, long and lean with moderate stop. Correct, dark eyes. Correct ears. Appealing kind expression. Clean neck. Gently sloping topline, which he held well stood and on the move. Correct depth of chest. Well set shoulders. Hindquarters muscular and powerful. Shown in good coat and condition. Moved freely showing balanced action, coming and going. Unlucky to meet the class winner on the day.

1.Walker’s Gwendariff’s Flags Are Flyin– A well balanced dog, full of elegance and quality. Attractive masculine head with correct proportions and moderate stop. Dark almond shaped eyes, well set ears. Kind and gentle expression. Neck clean and slightly arched. Gently sloping topline, which he held well on stood and on the move. Good length of body with correct depth of chest. Good front assembly and correct layback of shoulder. Hindquarters muscular, strong and powerful. Balanced rear angulation. Well set tail. Shown in gleaming coat and condition. Moved freely and soundly with balance fore and aft, showing good reach and drive . Pleased to award him Best of Breed.
