80th ANNIVERSARY PREMIER OPEN SHOW

4th MAY 2026

Thank you for the invitation to judge at this well-run show and to my steward Rosemary for keeping the ring in good order. Thank you also to all the exhibitors for taking the time to bring your dogs under me today.

DALMATIANS

My focus was for economical movement as well as breed type. The outdoor ring was rough, uneven ground which did adversely affect some dogs more than others which impacted my final placings.

PUPPY (3)

1.CARRINGTON’S CAPRILLI REMEMBER ME FOR LADALLYVITA- 11MO Black Spotted Bitch- Built on a smaller frame but balanced and in proportion. Deep black spotting. Feminine head with dark eye, used ears well to frame a pretty face. Elegant neck into well-defined withers, nice front and good fore-chest, strong straight legs with enough bone into tight cat feet. Correct height to length ratio and well-muscled rear and excellent second thigh, with moderate angulation. On the move, was true in all directions, with a strong level topline, with an attractive head and tail carriage. She also covered the ground well. Looking forward to seeing how she develops. BPIB.

2.BRIDGE AND MEYER’S TAMILANDA STAROPRAMEN FOR AKONI 7MO Liver Spotted Dog- Close up to 1 and I was splitting hairs. Well distributed rich liver spotting. Lovely masculine head with a broad flat skull, correct amber eye and ears carried well. Plenty of bone in strong straight legs. Good lay of shoulder, spring of rib and ribs carried well back. Well-muscled rear with good second thigh. I liked his proportions. On the move he showed excellent reach and drive and covered the ground with ease. Just preferred the head and tail carriage of 1, he was little more upright but still so young and everything will settle as he matures.

3. EDEN’S DALEN’S JEWEL IN THE CROWN

SPECIAL YEARLING (3)

1.SCOTT’S SOPHTSPOT WHIRLWIND JW- 14MO Black Spotted Bitch- Such a commanding ring presence. Cuts a clean shape on the stand and lives up to her promise both hands on and on the move. Broad flat skull with super dark eye framed by ears used to best advantage. Elegant neck leading to well defined withers. Good bone on strong straight legs. Excellent fore-chest and deep brisket. Strong level topline and firm across the loin. Well-muscled rear with excellent second thigh. Moderate angulation and well balanced. So stylish on the move, sound and true in all directions, a picture in profile and covering the ground effortlessly. Could not be denied BOB and was pleased to see her take a well-deserved Group 1.

2.DAVIES’ MADDIDALLI’S AURORAS HEART- 21 Mo Black Spotted Bitch- One I have judged before who is maturing nicely. More heavily marked with a rich dark pigment but not overdone. A correct broad skull, balanced with a feminine face and lovely expression and uses her ears well. A good front with enough fore chest. Good bone and tight cat feet. Correct spring of rib and a strong level back. Moderate angulation. On the move she tracked up well, showed good drive and kept a level topline.

3. EDEN’S DALEN’S JEWEL IN THE CROWN

POST GRADUATE (5,1)

1.CLAESEN’S DALSTORM JUST JIVING- 2 YO Black Spotted Dog-Another I have judged before and time and maturity has been good to him. Up for size but in proportion. Broad flat masculine skull, well defined withers and good lay of shoulder, plenty of strong round bone. Level back and firm strong loin. Well-muscled rear with good second thigh and well-defined strong hocks. Moderate angulation. In a fit, working condition. Movement true in all directions with correct head and tail carriage. Covered the ground well with economical and steady movement with plenty of reach and drive. Well-handled on a loose lead which enabled him to show himself at his best. Very close in the challenge but pleased to award him RBOB.

2.EDEN’S DALEN’S JEWEL IN THE CROWN- 11 MO Black Spotted Dog- Up for size, broad flat masculine skull with nice dark eye and good ears which he uses to frame a face with a soft expression. Well defined withers, good lay of shoulder. Strong straight legs with round bone. Good fore-chest and deep brisket. Well-muscled rear with good second thigh. I would prefer just a fraction more length to the loin. Moved more freely in this class than he had in previous classes and benefitted from more lead to stride out and better show the potential of his reach.

3. DAVIES’ MADDIDALLI’S RIVER SONG

OPEN (2)

1.DAVIES’ MADDIDALLI’S TRUE LOVES KISS JW- 21 MO Black Spotted Btch- Cuts a lovely picture on the stand, well defined spotting on a crisp white background. Broad flat skull with super dark eye, full pigmented rims. Correct ears used well to frame a plainer but pretty white face. Good lay of shoulder. Strong straight legs with plenty of round bone, nice tight cat feet. Good fore-chest and deep brisket. Well-muscled rear with good second thigh. Moved okay but felt she was hampered by the rough ground today and felt she was not able to get into her full stride.

2.EDEN’S STEYNDAL DIAMOND WHITE AT DALENS JW- 5YO Black Spotted Btch- Super rich pigment with well-defined spotting, dark eye, ears used well the frame a feminine face and sweet expression. Elegant long neck into well-defined wither and good spring of rib. Well-muscled rear with nice second thigh. Moved out true and covered the ground with ease. Beautifully handled and well-schooled, just preferred the overall substance of 1 today.
