The Yorkshire Gundog Club 2026

Sincerest thanks to the committee of this friendly and well organised show for inviting me to judge, and for their hospitality throughout the day. I also extend my thanks to my stewards for keeping the ring in order so well and all of the exhibitors for bringing their lovely dogs under me and accepting decisions so graciously.

Bracco Italiano

Junior 3,1

1st – Smith’s Teverlarni Lucky Star. 17mth bitch. Attractive, correct head with desired stop, median line and prominent occiput. Good teeth, eyes & ears. Short muscular neck, well laid shoulders over powerful forelegs and correct pasterns. Brisket to elbows, well ribbed. Marginally longer cast than 2, of good proportions. Good tight feet. Moved well.

2nd – Blomfield’s Teverlarni Who’s That Girl At Woodland Blue. Litter sister to 1 and not quite as relaxed on the stack which meant she did not show herself to advantage. Similar comments apply. Pretty head with correct chiselling, planes, median line & occiput. Correct proportions and angles throughout. Good feet. Moved ok.

Graduate 2, 0

1st – Fazenfield & Smith’s Owlspoint Askin For Trouble. 3yo boy with a handsome & masculine head. He has a happy disposition which is evident in the way he carries himself. Well laid shoulders with defined withers. Good angles fore and aft. Correct length of body, deep chest, short loin and slight tuck up. Very nice feet. Moved ok.

2nd – Longman’s Callaiscroft Je Ne Sais Quoi. Not present for written critique but my notes say well presented, compact dog.

Open 9, 1

1st – Pipes & Groves Bushwacker Don Nuan JW. Really quite taken with this handsome 2 1/2yo dog. He has a masculine head without being overdone, correct eye, ear, flews and mouth. Desired median line, stop and pronounced occiput with correct chiselling evident. Moderately short, powerful neck into well laid shoulders and well-defined withers. Great front assembly with good angles fore and aft. Deep brisket, slight tuck up and short loin. Best of feet, moved well. BOB.

2nd – Sanderson’s Sh Ch Owlspoint Trouble Again JW ShCEx OSW VW. This very smart veteran pushed the younger contender all the way. He is the definition of a showman! Masculine but not coarse head with all of the desired breed attributes. Short, powerful neck into good shoulders & defined withers. Strong forelegs & bend of stifle. Good front and hind angles, deep chest, well ribbed, short loin & broad croup. Moved superbly, good feet. RBOB.

2nd – Watson’s Oakswarren Trickster. Handsome head with correct breed attributes, long neck, well ribbed, firm loin, slight tuck up. Moved well but would prefer tighter feet.

Open 4,2

1st – Aynsley’s Vizash Heiress Of Caorunn JW. Feminine head, correct eye, stop, median line, mouth, ears. Moderately long, well-muscled neck into well laid shoulders. Good angles fore and aft, good depth of chest with prominent breast bone, well ribbed, firm loin with slight tuck up. Correct body proportions throughout. Best of feet, moved very well. BOB.

Junior 1, 0

1st Byrne’s Enryb Purple People Eater. Well made young man with a handsome, masculine head without being coarse. He carries a kind expression and has correct stop, eye, ear and mouth. Strong, well-muscled neck, well laid shoulders and good width/depth of chest allowing plenty of heart room. Ribs well back, good length & firm loin. Correct angles fore and aft. Great feet & close-fitting jacket. Moved well and presented in good hard condition. Really liked him. BOB.

Graduate 2, 0

1st. As above

2nd Nokes’ Trebus Tanselle At Goldpaw. 6yo bitch of a finer make than 1. Correct head, eye, ear, proportions, angles. Not quite the topline of 1 but may have just been cold and unsettled. She moved well/.

Open 5, 3

1st Nokes’ Goldpaw Five To Midnight. I liked this pretty bitch with a kind eye and correct skull, eye, ear, mouth. She has good length of body, well ribbed, correct angles fore/aft. Good feet, moved well.

2nd Heslop’s Nordicwalker Wild Solitude At Bonisla. 6 yo bitch who was well furnished and on the leaner side. She has correct eye & ear. Unfortunately, she paced when moving.
