Reading & District Kennel Association Premier Open Show – 27th May 2026

My thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge some of the Gundog Breeds, the Group and stakes classes at their open show. The committee had done everything possible to ensure the welfare of both dogs and humans in the extreme heat. My thanks also to my two stewards who kept the ring running smoothly.

Masculine head and expression with correct head planes and correct eye. Good reach of neck with well placed shoulders. Good bone and neat feet. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Correct topline, well bent stifles. Sound mover for his age covering the ground well. BP

1st Merritt’s SPERANT CHOCOLATE COSMOS JW

Feminine gentle head and expression. Good reach of neck with balanced angles both front and back. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Correct topline and short coupled. Good width to stifle. Well muscled which she used to her advantage on the move. BOB.

1st Brooksmith’s SHARNPHILLY LYRICAL

Pretty head and expression. Good reach of neck with well placed shoulders although would prefer more return of upper arm. Correct topline and tail set. Good width to stifle. Moves straight and true going and coming, covering the ground with ease. BP.

2nd Irshad DROVEBOROUGH SUPER TROOPER

Would prefer a more refine head piece. Good reach of neck with balanced angles front and back. Good bone and neat feet. Correct topline and tail set. Moved soundly.

3rd Matthews’ SONHAM BRIMSTONE

1st Welch & Hazeltine’s COROTINE NOIR BLOSSOM WITH HOOKWOOD

Feminine head with correct proportions and gentle expression. Good reach of neck with well placed shoulders and good return of upper arm. Good depth to chest with good bone and neat feet. Well sprung ribs with correct topline and good width to stifle. Moved straight and true front and back and it was her movement that won her the class.

2nd Cardiff’s TENSHILLING LET’S PRETEND WITH PROSPERITY

Another pretty girl with feminine head and expression. Moderately angled front with a good depth of chest. Well developed body, shorted coupled and good width to stifle. Not as positive on front movement as winner but covered ground well.

1st Kennedy’s DROVEBOROUGH BLACK MAGIC JW

Feminine head and expression and won this class on her overall balance and sound movement. Good reach of neck with well developed fore chest. Correct topline with well sprung ribs. Good width to stifle, well muscled which enabled her to cover the ground with ease.

2nd Barham’s DROVE BOROUGH WITCHY WOMAN JW

Slightly heavier in head that winner but still maintaining feminine expression. Balanced angles front and back. Good depth to chest, good bone and correct top line. Good width to stifle, moved soundly.

3rd Cardiff’s FREEBREEZE PIXAR AT PROSPERITY

1st Matthews’ SONHAM JUST THE TICKET (AI) JW

Masculine head and expression with correct head planes. Good reach of neck with well placed shoulders and good return of upper arm. Well developed fore chest with good bone and neat feet. Good spring of rib, short coupled with moderate width to stifle. Well muscled and moves sound and true for his age. BOB.

2nd Kennedy’s DROVEBOROUGH’S HELLS BELLS JW

Feminine head and expression. Good reach of neck but would prefer more fore chest. Correct topline with good spring of rib. Correct tail set, moderate width to stifle, moved ok.

Feminine head and expression with correct eye. Very balanced with a good reach of neck, well placed shoulder and good return of upper arm. Good depth of chest and well sprung ribs. Correct top line and tail set and carriage. Good width to stifle. Presented in good coat and condition and covered the ground with reach and drive. BOB.

2nd Egginton’s PAJANBECK HOLD MY HALO

Pretty head and expression. Finer all through compared to the winner although still balanced angles both front and back. Would prefer tighter elbows. Moved soundly.

Feminine, soft head and expression. Overall balance won her this class and better top line which was held on the move. Moderate reach of neck, good depth of chest, good bone and neat feet. Good spring of rib with good width to stifle. Covered ground well.

2nd Williams & Toublic’s COBHAY HEAVENLY HYDRANGEA JW Bel JCH BJW24

Pretty head and expression and did prefer her length of leg. Moderately angled front and back, good spring of rib and moved soundly.

Feminine head and expression. Good reach of neck with well placed shoulders and good return of upper arm. Good depth of chest with good bone and neat feet. Well sprung ribs with correct topline and tail set although carried a little high on the move. Good width to stifle. Overall presents a balanced picture. Well muscled and covered ground with ease. BOB.

2nd Williams & Toublic’s COBHAY DASHING DANDELION JW

Masculine head and expression, not the front angulation of winner. Good depth of chest with correct top line. Moderately angled rear. Moved soundly but carrying a little too much weight today.

1 year old with a feminine head and expression. Moderate reach of neck. Straight front with good topline . Good width to stifle. Giving handler a hard time on the move but moved straight and true when settled.

Feminine head and expression and won this class on front assembly. Good reach of neck, well placed shoulders and good depth of chest. Correct topline, with well sprung ribs and good width to stifle. Well muscled and covered ground well.

2nd Madeley’s DON’S D JUBILEE AT MAYTAG (IMP SWE)

Pretty head with soft expression. Stright front with good depth of chest, moderate reach of neck and well bodied. Moderate width to stifle. Moved ok.

IWS. My star of the day and never faltered in the scorching heat. Lovely feminine head and expression, with good reach of neck. Well placed shoulders and good return of upper arm. Well developed fore chest and good depth to chest. Well sprung ribs, good width to stifle and presented in hard muscular condition with correct coat. Covered the ground with ease with reach and drive. BAVNSC, Group 1 and delighted to see her win BIS.

Labrador Retriever. Feminine head and expression just 6 months old. Lovely dark eye and pigment. Level topline with good spring of rib. Short coupled with good width to stifle. Moved well with correct tail carriage.

2nd Taylor& Tenn’s STRETTONHILL KOOKY MONSTER

Golden Retriever. Soft head and expression with excellent pigment and dark eye. Well angulated front with goo return of upper arm. Well sprung ribs, slightly long in loin and would prefer a little more length of leg to completely balance the picture. Good width to stifle, presented in excellent coat covering ground well.

3rd Remongton’s JESSREMJUL KURO ONYX

1st Wynne-Evans’ DROVEBOROUGH ONE LOVE

English Setter. Just 13 months old and won this class on movement. Gentle head and expression. Good reach of neck with well placed shoulders and good return of upper arm. Well developed fore chest, tight elbows, correct topline and tail set. Short coupled with good width to stifle. Moved with reach and drive.

2nd Hall’s RHIWGERRIG CARACTACUS BY MELVIEW

Gordon Setter. 16 month old male with masculine head and expression. Good reach of neck with well angulated front. Good depth to chest with good bone and neat feet. Correct topline with good spring of rib. Need time to settle on the move to show his full potential.

Labrador Retriever. Feminine head and expression with balanced angles front and back. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Short coupled with moderate width to stifle. Level topline held on the move covered ground with ease.

Pointer. Feminine head and expression with correct proportions. Good reach of neck with well developed fore chest and good depth of chest. Would prefer tighter elbows. Good spring of rib with moderate width to stifle. Moved soundly.

Feminine head and expression and overall very balanced. Good reach of neck with a well angulated front and rear. Presented in good coat and condition although did start to flag a little in the heat.
