Thank you to the society for inviting me to judge the JHA classes at your open show, and for the fantastic prizes I was able to award to the class winners. A super entry of 15 with some talented handlers, who both looked the part, having dressed smartly and impressed me with their knowledge and skills. Overall I was looking for handlers that showcased their dog to its best, not over handling, whilst having a good rapport/bond. For the younger class, remember to listen carefully to the pattern that is being asked of you and don’t forget the golden rule of not coming between the judge and the dog 6-11 Years 1st – Catherine Chandler Very good rapport with her dog, she quietly and calmly showed her dog to the best advantage whilst showcasing her own handling skills and carefully listening to my instructions. Her patterns were accurate, straight lines, neat corners and at the right pace for the breed, moving her dog well in what was a small ring. At the end she set the dog up in a timely manner, at the correct distance from me. Picture perfect. Well done a worthy winner. 2nd – Jesse Stebbings Another quiet but confident handler, who showed his dog to great advantage . Nothing was overdone in any way. The pattern work was very good, with straight lines and neat corners. Very smart handler, who worked well with his dog and made a great impression. 12-17 Years 1st – Charlotte Robertshaw From the moment they entered the ring an impression was made. In the initial line up, she was positioned in line with the first competitor and continued this attention to detail throughout her time in the ring. Charlotte moved her dog at good pace, whilst focusing on my position at all time. As I moved around, this led to very slick lead changes to ensure not coming between the dog and myself. A very smart finish with a nice presentation of her dog at the correct distance. Very well deserved. 2nd – Adrijus Another great handler who moved his dog well. Neat pattern work, with straight lines and tight corners. Bite was correctly shown clearly. You could see a strong bond between them both. Really challenged hard for that top spot, well done.
