Pollard Canine Society

Pollard Canine Society – Saturday 3rd May 2026

For the third year in a row the society was affected by poor weather with rain that was quite torrential at times. Nevertheless, the committee, stewards and helpers rallied together and the show went on with smiles on faces and good humour all round. Naturally, the weather affected the absentees and also a local joint breed club championship and open show caused the lack of entries in the Flat Coat Retrievers. I enjoyed assessing the dogs that were present and there were some good examples in each of the breeds.

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers

Post Graduate (1/1)

Open (4/0)

1st – Adshead’s – Afonbach Syrax JW

A smaller frame than the other exhibits but also the most balanced with everything in proportion. She is very feminine with a pretty head and good reach of neck. Nice straight front with good feet and well bent stifle. She moves steadily and true both front holding a strong topline. Best of Breed

2nd – Burgess’ - Redmanhey’s Comte De La Fere

This 4 year old male has the most lovely masculine head with a soft expression. Well sized and presents a lovely outline with a strong back which he carries level on the move. Well presented in good coat, rich in colour and excellent overall condition.

3rd – Gough’s – Cretshengan Kitchi Lake (AI)

Curly Coated Retrievers

Post Graduate (1/0)

1st Spraggins – Tusepo Miss Scarlett

This young bitch has only just turned 1 but showed like a pro! She has excellent overall balance with good reach of neck and well laid back shoulders. She is feminine but strong and in great condition with plenty of toned muscle and a strong core. She won the challenge against her Mother with her driving movement, good forward reach and correct tail carriage. Best of Breed

Open (1/0)

1st Spraggins – Tuseo Amazing Love

Mother to the previous winner and I could see where she got some of her attributes from. Good straight front with good bone and well placed shoulders. She has a pretty head and eye with a soft expression. Although her movement was OK she did lose her topline going round.

Labrador Retriever

Junior (1/1)

Post Graduate (1/0)

1st Pickin’s – Edenwood Hinch

I liked this young chocolate dog very much, he is a super shape presenting a balanced outline. Compact and strong, he is well muscled, deep in chest and a good spring of rib. He has a typical head, masculine but with a melting expression and a good eye shape and colour. Strong neck of decent length and well placed shoulders. Unfortunately he didn’t want to move today and was rather sluggish – hopefully it was just down to the weather as by this stage everything was wet and soggy. Best of Breed

Open (2/1)

1st Pickin’s – Endenwood Hinch

As above
