United Retriever Club Open Show

What a super show. Quality all through. The officers and committee worked together to create a warm and friendly atmosphere at this well organised event.

From a strong line up I settled on awarding Best In Show to Mayhew and McCartney’s Chesapeake Bb’s Chesapeake Breeding Dory for Arnac What a super youngster, with so many breed qualities. So sound and honest to go over. In firm body and moving true from all angles. Destined for the top.

Reserve Best In Show went to Stephens’ Curly Coat Brightmeadow Rumour Has It. Looking well today and so typical of this wonderful breed. Good head planes and well-proportioned through. In good body and in super coat of tight curls. Moved as the standard requires holding her top line well. A worthy Champion.

Best Puppy In Show from a line-up of promising youngsters was Holland and Ramunno’s Flat Coat Flatcharm Gameboy. Balanced in outline and in gleaming coat. He showed so well and demanded attention. Just right for his age. Must have a bright future.

Reserve Best Puppy In Show Millington’s Golden Strettonhills Bring It Home to Jarabees. One I have judged previously and going so much better here. Filling out nicely and full of quality. Strong head with plenty of shape. In good body and coat.

Best Veteran In Show Nelson’s Golden Willowlawn Devon Belle at Cadwst. Looking so well here. Nothing overdone and so honest to go over. She moved straight and true and was well presented.

Varieties

Special Working (6, 1abs)

1st Percival’s Labrador Ch Wynfaul The Wizard.

Officially a veteran but he doesn’t appear to know that! So good to go over. Well shaped head of good width with correct stop and kind eyes. Strong neck of good length leads to well angulated shoulders. Well boned through with strong quarters, short hocks and a super tail. In great coat for his age.

2nd Moore’s Golden Tenfield Klipspringer with Auryngra

Well developed two year old with balanced outline. He has a well proportioned head, strong neck of good length leading to well boned straight front. Firm in top line and well angulated behind. He was in good coat.

3rd Corcoran and Jones’ Chesapeake Oakmarsh Kingsley Adsila

Minor Puppy (7,3)

1st Riley’s Golden Strettonhills Quevega

Only 6 months but so sweet and full of promise. Feminine head which will only get better as it breaks. Clean neck leading to well placed shoulders. Plenty of bone. She is level in top line and has good width to her quarters. Went well for her age and edged this class on her movement in profile.

2nd Jolly’s Golden Sweet Lucky Charm Wonderful Fair Plantagenet

Another promising young golden showing a balanced and quality profile. Well shaped head with dark eyes and well laid shoulders. Well ribbed with good rear angulation. Should do well as he fills out.

3rd Holland’s Flat Coat Flatcharm Mr Brisk

Puppy (11,5) Much to admire about the first three here.

1st Pattison’s Labrador Dylsonleigh Titan for Pattilands

I was really taken by this yellow boy at a recent show and now 11months, I felt today that he was even better as his coat was improved and he really used his tail to advantage. Has so much to admire from his masculine head of good width to his correct tail. I hope he continues along these lines.

2nd Salt’s Flat Coat Culcrieff's Ferntower Glen of Wetnoses

Not disgraced by coming second here. At 9 months is showing so much potential. Balanced head with good ear placement and dark eyes. Good reach of neck leads into well set shoulders. Well developed in rib for his age with width and depth. He moved well holding his top line and using his tail to advantage.

3rd Mandley’s Golden Maltqudos Vanity Fayre

Junior (13,7)

1st Smith’s Golden Goldmarker Luminora

2nd Smith’s Golden Goldmarker Alderbaran

Two very promising siblings of 17 moths, both well grown and nicely balanced through, free from exaggeration. Pleasing heads with gentle expressions and dark eyes. Good rear angulation and in good body and condition. Just thought the girl was a little more together as you’d expect. Will be interesting to see how they develop.

3rd Egginton and Davis’ Flat Coat Pajanbeck Hold My Halo

Graduate (23,10)

1st Lane and Lane Ridyard’s Golden Hardyllic Jack of Diamonds with Kulawand

What a lovely young man. Full of quality and breed type. Well boned but still balanced through. Good head with correct length of muzzle and well placed ears. Strong neck leads into nicely sloping shoulders. Well ribbed with length as well as depth. Moved with drive from behind.

2nd Nelson’s Golden Cadwst Song of Spring

One I have admired before and still do! Full of quality with well shaped head of correct proportions. Good length of neck and well laid shoulders. She has good rear angulation and uses this to good effect on the move. Just lacking the finish of the winner here.

3rd Baron’s Labrador Landebec Ventura

Open (13,7)

1st Perkins Curly Coat Maycourt Miss Sweetness at Tengore

Won this tricky class on his overall quality and breed features. He has a correctly shaped head with dark eyes and good ear placement. He is strong in neck and has moderate angulation fore and rear. Presented in good coat with the desired tight curls. Moved steadily but straight fore and aft.

2nd Lane and Lane Ridyard’s Flat Coat Kulawand Cartier

Well balanced with correct head proportions and super attitude. Good chest with length of rib and good width to the quarters. Moved true carrying his to-p line correctly.

3rd Millington’s Golden Golmas Guard of Honour at Jarabees

Brace (7,1)

1st Rice’s Tollers, looking well together with common strengths and moving in unison. A well-deserved win here.

2nd Gregory’s Tollers again looking well together and full of breed type. Just preferred the uniformity of the winners .

3rd Watts’ Chesapeakes

Veteran (11,6)

1st Nelson’s Golden Willowlawn Devon Belle at Cadwst Best Veteran In Show

2nd Smith’s Golden Sh Ch Goldmarker Luminara

Another top golden defying the aging process. Full of quality and presented a lovely outline on the stack. Moved well enough, just lacked the precision of the winner here. A worthy Champion.

3rd Tester’s Toller Gingafing Careless Whisper
