The Skye Terrier Club
18/04/26
A rather special invitation to judge The Skye Terrier Club show. Thanks to the Officers and committee for this invitation and to the Skye exhibitors for the pleasing entry.
I can’t believe it was right back in 2000 that I first owned a Skye…26 years ago! Where does the time go? I have followed the breed ever since and watched from ringside when circumstances allowed. They are a ‘special’ breed in character and temperament with their undying loyalty to their owners.
I found quality throughout the classes today, especially promising youngsters which bodes well for the future. As a breed they ‘age’ particularly well and the veteran classes always pull at the heart strings, today was no exception. All the veterans her were excellent representatives of the breed, in fabulous form and I would like to thank their owners for bringing them.
I really enjoyed the appointment, the breed and the trip down memory lane!
MPD. 1st Verumamicus Lord Falcor Of Brakemill. Super cream pup of 7 months. Lovely shape with good length and holding his outline well, particularly for his tender age. Excellent head, well proportioned. Dark, mischievous eye. Well set-on ears. Correct scissor bite. Strong, reachy neck. Good angles. Excellent body for his age. Free, sound mover, using his rear to full advantage. Presented in lovely puppy coat and condition. BPD & BPIS.
2nd Pemontell’s Red Jasper At Jeraro. Also 7 months and matching the winner in outline, size and conformation. Super head and expression. Excellent eye and bite. Good neck leading to a well angled front. Strong bone. Holds himself well on the stack. Excellent condition. Just needs to settle on the move. Both these pups show great potential.
LD. 1st Tiny Winnie Argon Targaryen. Medium sized cream with excellent. Appeals for his excellent proportions Head has strength with muzzle to compliment. Moderate neck. Balanced angles. Holds his topline well on the stack and on the move. Good coat of harsh texture, clear colour and excellent ear fringes. Sound on the move with low tail carriage.
OD. Two excellent representatives of the breed here. 1st Ch. Lavauxs Bahamian Chris. Dark silver. A worthy Ch and looking the part. Super outline, masculine and strongly built. Excellent head shape. Strong skull. Excellent ear set and carriage. Dark eye. Strong bite. Reachy neck. Good depth of chest. Excellent bone. Firm topline. Well ribbed back. Excellent quarters. In excellent coat, harsh and well presented. Moved out well, driving soundly from the rear. Just preferred the tail carriage of the female in the final challenge, that said, a more than worthy BD, RBIS and BOS.
2nd Madaza Box Of Frogs. Loved this drop ear cream. Excellent outline with plenty of length but well proportioned and holding his outline well. Strong head. Expressive eye. Excellent bite. Moderate neck. Balanced angled front and rear. Moved well from profile, just a bit wide coming towards. Strong rear. Excellent coat for texture, colour and presentation.
VD. Ch. Esgia Highland Laddie. Masculine 9 year old dark silver that totally belies his age. Super outline and easily hits the ‘3 L’s’ long, low and level. Strong in bone and firm body. Excellent conformation which comes together on the move. Sound in all directions. Excellent double coat, a touch soft (often associated with age) and well presented. Pleased to award him Res BD and BVIS.
MPB. 1st Verumamicus Fenia Plume. Litter sister to MPD winner and of equal quality and potential. Feminine in outlook but has substance and bone to compliment her frame. Excellent height to length ratios. Pretty head and cheeky expression. Medium length of neck and moderate in angulation front and rear. Can firm-up in topline a smidge and settle on the move but she has loads of time and has the happy personality to take her to the top!
PB. Good class. 1st Skeshire Briar Rose With Bremerland’
2nd Skyeshire Princess Ann. Two cream litter sisters with great potential. Both are feminine and appeal for type, size and overall outlines. Both have excellent heads and use their ears to best advantage. Excellent reach and arch to necks. Difficult to split them but, for me, Briar Rose is just a fraction more forward in maturity and holding her topline better at this stage but I’m sure they will change places many times throughout their careers. Both moving well with excellent tail carriages. Excellent coat and both beautifully presented.
3rd Verumamicus Erinys.
JB. 1st Headscrook Northern Light. Pleasing young cream. Lovely length and pleases in head, dark eye and ear set. Medium neck. Firm topline. Well ribbed back to short loins. Tail set could be a fraction lower but carriage on the move is ok. Free mover drives off well from low hocks.
2nd Powdersnow New Years Kiss At Yarragold. Dark slate drop ear of excellent head and body proportions. Strong head but still feminine in outlook. Excellent eye and bite. Strong neck. Deep chest for age. Excellent overall outline, sound on the move. Can just firm-up a bit out and back. Excellent tail carriage.
3rd Powdersnow Serephina Yarragold.
PGB. 1st Nahearadh Sky Full Of Stars. Clear cream with good ear fringes. Excellent height to length proportions. Pleasing in head. Ok in neck. Balanced angles. Strong topline. Muscular loins. Excellent tail set and carriage. Moved soundly but could be a bit more enthusiastic to show off her charms.
LB. 1st Verumamicus Calypso. Excellent cream. Appeals for size, outline, general substance and bone. Typical head and expression. Excellent ear set, used to advantage. Good reach of neck leading to a sound front. Good depth of chest. Excellent ribbing. Firm topline. Strong quarters. Moved out well in all directions. Well presented coat of good colour and texture. Pushed all the way in the challenge. RBB.
2nd Madaza Star. Another good cream. Excellent head with a Reachy neck giving proud carriage. Moderate angles front and rear. Excellent length but could be a fraction firmer in topline. Coming into good coat. Moved soundly.
3rd Silverbriar Imogen Of Petitpaws.
OB. 1st Brakemill Midsummer Dream. Very feminine and fills the eye with her excellent outline. Dark silver of excellent type. Beautiful head. Dark expressive eye. Excellent ear set, good fringing and used to advantage. Strong neck. Excellent angles front and rear. Holds her topline well. Correct ribs. Short loins. Flows around the ring on the move with low tail carriage. Impressive from any angle. Beautifully presented coat of excellent texture. Delighted to award her BB and BIS. Just loved her!
2nd Skyshire Rosie. Another feminine female. Clear cream with enough length, substance for her size and sound conformation. I love her outline and carriage on the move. Uses her excellent neck to full advantage. In excellent coat. Full of quality.
3rd Esgia Cry Freedom.
VB. 1st Esgia’s Lone Wolf. Mature female that instantly appeals for her excellent outline, with correct body ratios. In excellent condition for her age. Strong but feminine. Good head and muzzle. Balanced front and rear. Moved out freely and in lovely coat.
2nd Tweedsmuir Feebee Mine. A real show girl with such a lovely character. Belying her age and great to see these veterans still enjoying themselves after seasoned show careers. Very feminine, but nothing lacking. Good head, eye and ear. Medium neck. Firm topline. Just carrying a bit too much weight. Strong quarters. Close-up.
Vintage B. 1st Perrylands Bentara, In fabulous coat and condition. Loved her size, feminine in outlook but with good body and bone. Excellent head. Dark eye. Well set-on ears. Deep chest. Moderate angulation front and rear. Excellent tail set and low carriage on the move. Still sound and true in all directions.
