Pollard Canine Society

What a beautiful setting for a dog show - Pollard in the Park! Unfortunately, we were incredibly unlucky with the weather; it rained relentlessly from start to finish. I was in constant admiration of both the volunteers and exhibitors who carried on so cheerfully despite the conditions.

By the time it came to judging the Groups, I would have sworn everyone had headed home, so I was delighted to find such well-supported Groups. Better still, the quality on display was, perhaps, among the best I have seen for some time. You should be very proud of the lovely quality dogs you have in your part of the world.

Irish Setter

J (2, 1a): 1 BP, RBOB, PG1 & RBPIS Bott, Allen & Morgan's Glitterati Lofty with Quensha (Imp), what an absolute cutie patootie, she made me smile the moment she came in the ring, so full of wonderment. Super quality & only 6 months, good bone for her size, feminine, presents a super outline – flows, lovely angulation & moved well. Superbly presented. Delighted to award her PG1. Later she was RBPIS.

O (3, 2a): 1 BOB Corless' Swiftlark Spellbinder, mature male, stands over his ground, masculine, strong bone through the forearms, clean neck into shoulders, strong through the loin, good bend of stifle, moved co-ordinately.

Gordon Setter

PG (1): 1 RBOB Bednarska & Bednarski's Hartenziel Laderach, 14 months male, very outgoing temperament, going through his leggy teenager stage at present, needs to drop down & fill out which he will do with maturity, good head profile, correct bend of stifle. Needs time.

O (1): 1 BOB Wrigley's Kattandale Blac Highlander AI, mature bitch coming up 6 years, strong bone, brisket down to elbow, good ribbing, good topline & bend of stifle. Needs a little toning up to give her more definition especially over the shoulders.

Spaniel (English Springer)

J (1): 1 BOB McCarthy’s Sieger's Touch Too Much at Cuandor (Imp), 6 months, very balanced, nice to go over, excellent front assembly, good bone for size, correct bend of stifle, strong rear pasterns. She went all day without flagging. A little trooper.

AV Imported Breed Register Gundog

O (3, 2a): 1 Best AV Import Gundog Taylor’s Swiss Sh Ch Fabpoint Pagan Through Pointoak (Imp), 4-year-old Portuguese Pointer bitch, really understood the assignment & knows how to show herself off. Appeals in head, good pigment, clean over the topline, correct length of body, well-muscled thighs, good bend of stifle. Striking in side profile on the move. Very well presented.

AVNSC Gundog

PG (1): 1 BAVNSC Gundog Spavins & Senior's Kensesqui Japan, Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla, coming up 3 years, feeling the cold today understandably, clean neck into shoulders, strong rear pasterns. She held herself tight in her body owing to the cold but I would prefer a better topline & tail carriage.

Gundog Group

What a super quality Group.

1 Mahon-Hunns, Middleton & Haskin's Susqudilla Yankee Shadow (Imp), Chesapeake Bay Retriever, couldn’t ignore him, so soundly made, all male, looks like he could break through ice – such strength, glint in his eye when you greet him. Lovely to go over, and as he was being gone over, water dripping from the tent landed on his coat and simply rolled straight off his back. A great demonstration of just how fit for purpose his water-resistant coat is. Everything fits well & then he powers around the ring with muscled thighs & a proud drive. Quality – surely a bright future. Well handled.

2 Bradley's Sh Ch Highforce All Or Nothing JW ShCEz OSW, Hungarian Vizsla, all male, scores on his driving movement. Well off for bone without being coarse, good body proportions, in lovely muscled condition, good rear angulation. Well presented.

3 Dobbs' Theondale Hopeful Heart JW, Weimaraner, lovely quality male, flows through his body & really looked well driving around the ring. I am sure he will do well.

4 Kipps' Wheatcroft Hunky Dory, Golden Retriever, lovely quality bitch of 2 years, put in a great performance & looked so balanced standing & moving – nothing overdone.

Gundog Group Puppy

1 Bott, Allen & Morgan's Glitterati Lofty with Quensha (Imp), Irish Setter, simply couldn’t resist her – she made me smile the whole time. So full of excitement despite the relentless rain.

2 Staley's Jomeel Quicksilver, German Shorthaired Pointer, what a super quality boy of nearly 7 months, such a clean outline – no humps or bumps – he simply flowed & is so well put together. Moved around the ring with all his might. Smart & cannot be overlooked.

3 Harrison's Glenbrows Promise, Cocker Spaniel, orange roan bitch of nearly 7 months, nice to go over, compact in appearance, pretty head, clean neck into shoulders, moved out well & merrily.

4 Nelson's Cadwst Eternal Ember, Golden Retriever, well balanced bitch of nearly 7 months, good angles fore & aft. Nothing exaggerated. Stood out in a strong Group.

AV Gundog Veteran (17):

1 Nelson's Willowlawn Devon Belle at Cadwst, Golden Retriever, bitch of 8 years, stood out to me for quality, both standing & moving – a picture of balance, put in a great performance, nice to go over & well presented; 2 Pont's Sh Ch Oakmarsh Dancing Diva JW, Chesapeake Bay Retriever bitch of 9 years, nice to over, presents a nice outline, good bend of stifle, well muscled quarters; 3 Pilatova's Sabsky Sasanka, Weimaraner.

AV Puppy Bitch (49):

1 Corner's Dollydash Liberty Of The Sea at Carcorn, Dachshund Wirehaired, bitch of nearly 7 months, lovely to go over, everything fits well, stood out on the table & stood out on the move, well handled; 2 Clay & Beet's Americlass Americano with Thistlefinch, American Cocker, appeals going around the ring with excellent drive, clean over the topline, good bend of stifle; 3 Westwood's Callaiscroft Aurora Star at Hopewood, Bracco Italiano.
