I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge at this lovely open show and a huge thanks to Jayne Bennett my steward for the duration who kept things running smoothly. Thank you to all exhibitors who took the time to make the journey to show under me. It was nice to see an abundance of quality dogs which were a pleasure to go over and on another day possibly a different result. All dogs were presented in lovely fit condition and very nice to see all had correct bites and some lovely movement. The weather was a little chilly for whippets but thankfully the dogs were well behaved. The exhibitors certainly made judging difficult due to the quality but I was delighted with my BOB, RBOB and BP all of which were lovely examples of the breed in what were very close decisions to be made especially in the Open class. Really appreciated this day.

Puppy

Morland & Soffe (122) Zoraden Meant to Beaver. 9 month old fawn and white bitch that caught my eye, oozing confidence and character which is what I want to see in a youngster. She did not disappoint on any level being stacked with a balanced silhouette without exaggeration. Correct for size. Lovely feminine head with dark oval eyes. Correct bite with good under jaw, flat head and nicely set ears. Gently curved neck into a good lay of shoulder following on to a gently curved top-line into the tail set. For a youngster she has a lovely front construction not too wide or square then following through onto good bladed front legs and nicely sprung pasterns. Following on from this into a gently curved underline into the tuck. Good length of rib. Although still an immature youngster she has the makings of a nicely constructed whippet. Lovely to and fro on the move with a lovely daisy cut action. Enough drive from the rear giving a feeling of fluidity of movement. I understand this to be her first outing to which i am sure will be an interesting and promising show career. I look forward to following her in the future. BP

Cooper, Miss L & LJ (111) Ballaurens Diamond. Another lovely 8 month old fawn and white bitch of slightly larger construction to above. Nicely balanced bitch with a feminine head and dark eye and also correct bite. Good curvy top-line and underline into the rear quarters which were strong leading into the second thigh of nice angulation and strong hocks. Looks slightly upright in the front of shoulder but appreciate she is a raw puppy and not fully matured or as settled as above. Nice on the move. A lot to like with this bitch and although unsettled and the youngest in the class I’m sure she will do well when mature.

Junior

Cooper, Miss L & LJ (112) Ballaurens You Got It. Fawn and white bitch with a curvy underline and top-line. She stood out in this class for soundness and drive holding her top-line on the move. Nicely balanced and mature for her age with good muscle tone. Correct bite. Good oval dark eyes. Curved neck into the withers and good lay of shoulder leading on to a gently curving top-line. Plenty of rib cage for heart and lung room with a good length of rib without being barrelled. Good muscular rear quarters on the second thigh with no over angulation. Nice front chest not too wide into bladed legs and enough spring in pasterns. Lacks a little elegance for me but more than makes up for it for soundness on the move with plenty of drive and elbows in the right place on the move.

Hunter, Miss N (115) Katiesues Attraction at Salatini. Brindle bitch with lovely feminine expression and correct bite. Dark oval eyes and good ear set and adequate length of neck into well laid shoulders and nice front. Preferred the more gentle curve of topline of above. Nevertheless a nice sized bitch of finer overall construction without being over angulated In the second thigh. Nice on the move but I feel she’s still maturing.

Miss L Samson (127) Zoraden Surprise Edition at Romaclove. Super quality moderate fawn and white 9 yrs old veteran dog in excellent fit condition. I have not seen this boy since he was a youngster and being the first time going over him i would gladly take him home! I was genuinely torn as to whether he should be my best of breed. Stacked to perfection, nothing course or unbalanced in silhouette with all the attributes that scream masculinity. Good masculine head with correct bite and favourable under jaw. Nicely set ears on a good flat head with nicely set oval eyes and stop all leading on to a gently curved neck to the withers. Excellent lay of shoulder and good front construction without being too wide with good bladed front legs with the right amount of spring in the pasterns. Nicely defined top-line with a gentle curve over a strong loin into the tail set. A good strong rear quarter into a lovely second thigh that is perfectly angulated. Good underline and length of rib into the tuck. Lovely on the move elbows tight to the brisket and despite looking a little stiff in the rear which may be due to the sharpness of the grass he was a worthy winner of the class. Exudes what a masculine moderate dog should be despite his advanced years. There is nothing flashy about this dog but you can imagine in his younger years he could do a good days work in the field. Ms M Thomas (128) Bowdonia Elphaba. Another fine example of a quality whippet. Feminine and elegant brindle bitch with correct bite and nice expression. Dark oval eyes with good stop, flat head and nice ear set. Good neck into the withers with nicely balanced lay of shoulder and front construction with just enough muscle without loosing elegance. Nice length of loin with a top-line that gently curves into the tail set and onto a nice rear construction and good second thigh without being over angulated. Good brisket and length of rib into the tuck up. In excellent condition and lovely on the move true to and fro. Would have been in contention had it not been for the class winner.

Ms M Thomas (129) Bowdonia Sky Full Of Stars. Another tough class of quality. This brindle and white bitch really caught my eye whom I don’t recollect seeing at a show but this girl is feminine in every way with a melting expression, correct bite, lovely head with dark oval eyes and lovely ear set leading on to a nice length of neck and strength into the withers and into the front chest without looking course. Good lay of shoulders and lovely front construction that has the elegance required for the overall look especially on the move. From the chest leads to the well bladed front legs into nicely sprung pasterns. Good ribcage with length and not barrelled with plenty of heart room. Good length of loin and gently curved top-line into the tail set. Nice rear muscle construction which is just right for a bitch going into a lovely angulated second thigh following on to a strong hock. Lovely to and fro but I would have liked to see her move a little quicker to see her really stretched and driving from the rear. Another good whippet bitch for size who I would cheerfully take home too. I don’t think the cold wind did her any favours in the ring today but she showed more than enough qualities on the day and in excellent company. A very worthy winner who I was delighted to award BOB and only by looking at the catalogue that I realised she is a half sister to Bowdonia Elphaba.

Miss A Morland (119) Zoraden Master Baker. Another quality fawn and white 3 yrs old moderate dog who typifies this kennel. Masculine head with correct jaw and bite, also gentle expressive dark eyes, nicely placed ears, flat head and nice stop. Good strong neck into the withers and well laid shoulders into a gently curving topline which had just enough enough length of loin for his overall correct size and true to the breed standard that is nice to see. This dog has a great well defined rear construction without being over the top with muscle which leads on to a nicely angulated second thigh and down through into a strong hock. I also really liked this dogs front chest which showed strength and balance throughout and having good blade to the front legs and spring in his pasterns. Again another example of a curvy underline with plenty of heart and lung room in the ribcage to a gentle tuck. True to and fro on the move with plenty of drive. Overall a lovely dog that screams masculinity and did not make the judging any easier for me.
