Breed: Junior Handling & Border Collies

Penrith & District Canine Society

Sunday 19th April 2026

My sincere thanks to the committee of the Penrith & District Canine Society for the invitation to judge at this well-run and well-organised show. I thoroughly enjoyed my day judging the Handling classes and Border Collies.

My thanks also go to my stewards for their assistance, and to the exhibitors for their entries.

A. Junior Handling (6–11 years)

A delightful class to judge, full of promising young handlers who are clearly the future of the sport.

1st & Best Child Handler – Elena Stuart

A most impressive young handler whom I could not fault at any stage. She demonstrated an excellent affinity with her dog, and I particularly appreciated the way she communicated with it throughout. Her shadowing was accurate, and she maintained consistent, calm contact with her dog. She presented a picture of true harmony and moved her dog at exactly the correct pace. Pleased to award her Best Child Handler.

2nd – Robert Stuart

A capable handler who presented his dog well. He showed good shadowing and remained attentive to the judge at all times. Just missed out on first place today, as I would have liked to see slightly more communication with his dog.

B. Junior Handling (12–16 years)

1st – Chantelle Stuart

A highly capable handler who demonstrated a lovely connection with her dog. She remained aware of the judge at all times and showed accurate, confident shadowing throughout. A polished and assured performance.

2nd – Iris Turner

Another capable handler who moved her dog well and showed a good bond with her exhibit. Just lost out today as she needed to maintain greater awareness of the judge.

A. Adult Handling (17–24 years)

1st & Best Adult Handler & Best Handler – Danielle Wilson

A foot-perfect performance from a most impressive handler whose connection with her dog truly shone through. She worked in complete harmony with her exhibit, moving the dog at the correct speed throughout. Attentive to the judge at all times and demonstrating accurate shadowing. Pleased to award her Best Adult Handler and Best Handler Overall.

2nd – Lucy Mallinson

A good handler with a lovely connection with her dog. She moved her dog at the correct speed and remained attentive throughout. I would have preferred to see slightly more communication with her dog at times.

B. Adult Handling (25 years +)

1st – Lauren C Thomas

A mirror image of her dog on the move, working in perfect harmony. She was attentive to the judge at all times and made handling appear smooth and effortless.

2nd – Erin Logie

A handler with a lovely connection with her dog, the bond clearly evident. She remained attentive to the judge and moved her dog at the correct speed throughout.

Border Collies

52.Puppy

1st Borderbrook Special Dream

A pleasing head and expression, alert and attentive to her handler throughout. She showed a lovely outline on the stand and moved soundly both away and back. Presented in immaculate condition. BPIB.

2nd Jachelm Still Sisters

A different type to my winner but a nice puppy. Good head with well-used, sensitive ears. Presented in good condition; just needed to settle a little more on the move.

53. Graduate

1st Chikaramor Chyna Roses

A lovely young bitch oozing breed type and quality. Feminine head with a kind expression, alert and attentive to her handler. Good length of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, with balanced angulation front and rear confirmed on the move. Sound coming and going. She was a touch unsettled on the move in the challenge, which cost her higher honours on the day. RBOB.

2nd Borderbrook Special Dream

1st in Puppy

54. Postgraduate

1st Chikaramor Chyna Roses

1st in Graduate

2nd Jachelm Dream Come True

Nice young bitch who presents a lovely outline on the stand. Good head and overall expression. Good length of neck. Sound out and back and presented in lovely condition. I just preferred on the day the overall type of number 1.

55. Open

1st Locheil Freeze Frame

Having judged this boy before, I find him every bit as good a type as I remembered, and he has matured well since. A pleasing head with lovely eyes and ears, good length of neck into well-laid shoulders, and balanced hindquarter angulation. Sound coming and going, with a balanced, easy movement. Presented in immaculate condition. BOB.

2nd Borderbrook Final Destiny JW

Another I've judged before, as a puppy, and there's still a great deal to like about her. A pleasing head, with eyes and ears that give a lovely expression. Alert and attentive to her handler, well balanced overall, and a good mover. Presented in excellent condition.
