Cocker Spaniels

A heartfelt thank you to the Dundee Canine Club and its committee for inviting me to judge Cocker Spaniels — it was an enjoyable day. I’m especially grateful to my steward, who did a great job at keeping the ring running efficiently throughout. The quality of dogs was excellent, making for some very close decisions and a very enjoyable judging appointment.

Puppy Dog (5 Entries) Abs: 1

1st – Robertson’s Zheridons Black Mirror

10-month-old Black Dog, who is maturing nicely. Particularly liked his head, masculine without being overdone showing a soft expression. He really scored in body, excelling in rib and width throughout, which won him this class. On the move he was certainly enjoying himself, and when settled moved accurately displaying good reaching action and drive from the rear. Happy to award Best Puppy in Breed.

2nd – Low’s Haradwater Godspeed (IMP PT)

9-month-old Blue Roan Dog. He like 1st has a good head for his age, distinct stop and lovely expression. He is short in loin, showing a nice cobby outline when stacked. His coat presentation was superb. I would prefer slightly more width of chest, but this should come with age. He moved out steadily displaying sound and easy movement, holding a level topline and using his tail well as he went.

3rd – Barry’s Dunherl Doc Holliday at Lindalloch

Junior Dog (1 Entry) Abs: 0

1st – Wark’s Aryafalls Pride of Summer

10-month-old Dark Blue and Tan Dog, who presents a nice outline when stacked, balanced in both front and rear angulation. He has a good masculine head, and gentle expression. He just needs to build up his confidence on the table when being assessed, as was quite fidgety. On the move he went round happily showing good drive in the rear.

Post Graduate Dog (3 Entries) Abs: 0

1st – Bodzak’s Whinburn Dearg Aurora

2-year-old Red Dog, one I have admired from ringside for some time. Liked his head, good stop and expression. He really scores in substance and bone. He has lovely neck and shoulders, leading to a well assembled front. Excellent spring of rib and deep chest. On the move, he has a strong topline and displayed the typical merry action of the breed. A lovely dog.

2nd – Lawrie’s Inverella Hugo Boss

Almost 2-year-old Black Dog, who was close up to 1st. He has a very striking outline when stacked, turned out beautifully. Upon inspection, his head was just the right level of masculine. He too has a good front assembly with good return of upper arm. Good spring of rib and width throughout. He was shorter in loin than the class winner, I just preferred the movement of 1st.

3rd – Hynd’s Ryallcourt Way Above Over Scomar

Limit Dog (6 Entries) Abs: 3

1st – Lawrie’s Whinburn Formula One

This 2-year-old Red Dog has such a typical, cobby outline it was hard to stop looking at him. He has a classic head piece, good stop and gentle expression. He is compact and sturdy in body, with a good spring of rib and short strong loin. Good bend of stifle. On the move he displayed good reach and drive showing sound and steady movement. He just needs to keep building his confidence and get his tail going which did improve towards the end of the day. Close up to Best of Breed. Happy to award him Best Dog.

2nd – Duncan’s Lynshow Karter

3-year-old Black Dog who was handled excellently. Another with a lovely head and expression. He is well made all through, with good angulation front and rear. He like the class winner was strong and sturdy throughout with excellent spring of rib and width of chest. I found him slightly longer in loin than the winner. On the move he showed sound accurate movement, with good reach and drive at the rear.

3rd – Hynd’s Ryallcourt Way Above Over Scomar

Open Dog (2 Entries) Abs:1

1st – Hynd’s Scomar Magic Flute VW

13-year-old Black and White Dog enjoying his day showing. Shows a square outline when stacked, with good angulation front and rear. He looks great for his age and can still really move! He held a level topline on the move and showed excellent tail action. A credit to his owner.

Puppy Bitch (1 Entry) Abs: 0

1st – Blazejczak’s Redgranate Amber Diamond

8-month-old Red Bitch who was groomed beautifully. She has a sweet feminine head which is developing well, melting expression. She has good neck into fine shoulders. She is cobby in outline, with good ribs for her age and short loin. On the move she went out okay but needs to build her confidence to get her tail up which will help complete the overall picture.

Junior Bitch (3 Entries) Abs: 1

1st – Lawrie’s Inverella Bella Ragazza Nera

14-month-old Black Bitch who again from this kennel was presented beautifully. Loved her head, super girly but still typical of the breed. She has a nice front assembly, with good return of upper arm. Balanced angulation front and rear. She won this class on her cobbiness and movement. Nice tight feet. Showed soundness and drive on the move.

2nd – Mason’s Lynshow Apache

12-month-old Golden Bitch built on slightly bigger lines but was close to 1st. Feminine head and expression, leading to nice length of neck and fine shoulders. She has good strength and width throughout for one so young, lovely spring of rib. She too is square in outline, balanced in front and rear angulation. She moved out nicely, keeping a level topline.

Post Graduate Bitch (1 Entry) Abs: 0

1st – Lawrie’s Inverella Mistletoe Kiss

3 ½ year old black bitch, very similar in type to the other exhibits from the kennel. She really excelled in compactness, very cobby with big ribs and short loin. She has everything in moderation, just as a cocker should. Shown in excellent coat and condition. A very nice bitch, such a shame that on the move today she wouldn’t get her tail up as it spoilt her outline going round the ring.

Limit Bitch (2 Entries) Abs: 2

Open Bitch (3 Entries) Abs: 1

1st – Duncan’s Corralet Condesa III of Dunherl JW

3-year-old Light Blue Bitch, who I have done well for in the past so was thrilled to see her looking so well today. She has matured well since I last judged her. Lovely feminine head and expression. Very compact with flowing outline. Excellent front and rear angulation. She scores in spring of rib, with great substance throughout. On the move she really comes alive, using her well muscles rear quarters to drive around the ring with ease. Her presentation was first class. Her tail never stopped, a beautiful merry cocker. Happy to award her Best Bitch and Best of Breed.

2nd – Neatham’s Shoogsea Bibidi Bobidi Boo

8-year-old Orange Roan Bitch, a lovely veteran who is looking and showing great. She was shown in excellent coat and condition and was presented beautifully. She has a pretty head with dark eye. Nice neck leading to good front assembly. She is cobby and has plenty substance throughout. Moved out very well, showing accurate footfall and good drive.
