Working Breeds

I would like to thank Newton Abbott and South Devon Canine Society for inviting me to judge at their open Show on 24 January 2026. A very well organised and friendly show, thank you to my stewards for keeping the rings running smoothly.

Alaskan Malamute-

Open (2-1)

1. Smith, (Mrs & Miss), Snowshoes Time for Jenga, very pretty 8-month-old bitch,in a super coat, maturing nicely. A nicely balanced young lady plenty of bone, she looked stunning in profile, lovely balanced head with correct ear placement, darkest of eyes, correct bite, good neck, excellent lay of shoulder, front assemble correct, lovely rear angulation. Moved beautifully with power and purpose around the ring, maintaining her topline, super tail carriage. Lovely tight feet. Best of Breed, Best Puppy in Breed and Puppy Group 3, 1st in Puppy Stakes.

Bernese Mountain Dog

Graduate – (2-0)

1. Oakaby, (Mrs) - Tickbern Only One Carina At Iscabern, 13 month old bitch, well off for bone and substance, balanced compact appearance, flat skull, lovely dark eyes, with a lovely kind expression, correct stop, good dentition. Lovely neck and top line, good forechest, with a good lay of shoulder, straight front stands on tight round feet. Super coat with lovely markings. She moved around the ring effortlessly with good reach and drive. Reserve Best of Breed.

2. Manix, Manix and English – Waldeshelf Fine and Dandy TAF. 6 month old dog, a stunning puppy who is developing well. Beautifully balanced boy with plenty of bone and substance, lovely strong head, correctly balanced with flat skull, correct ear placement, beautiful dark eyes, excellent stop, correct scissor bite, lovely kind expression. Neck muscling well, with good lay of shoulder, strong straight front, beautiful round compacted feet, excellent topline, good rear angulation He moved with lovely reach and drive carrying his bushy tail correctly, super black puppy coat with beautiful markings. Such a happy boy with a super temperament. Best Puppy in Breed and Puppy Group 1

1. Manix, Manix and English -CH Waldeshelf Bjorn To Be King – 2 ½ year old dog whose profile is stunning, just very slightly longer in back but he is balanced, plenty of bone and substance, certainly fit for purpose. A beautiful masculine balanced head with flat skull, correct ear placement, kind dark eyes, super expression with an excellent stop and correct scissor bite, His muscular neck leads into a broad back and beautiful topline, and a lovely, rounded rump. Well placed shoulders, strong straight front standing on super round compact feet. Broad chest with a good depth of brisket and a good spring on rib, Hindquarters are nicely angulated, he moved round the ring effortlessly with super reach and drive. Beautiful coat with fabulous markings, his bushy tail was carried correctly. Shown in beautiful condition. Best of Breed, Working Group 1.

2. Oakby, (Mrs)- Iscabern Daffadowndilly, 8 years 10-months-old bitch, she certainly does not look her age, lovely profile, feminine head, strong with flat skull and neatly place ears, kind dark eyes, good stop, good bite. Straight front with plenty of bone, good spring of rib, nice round compact feet. Muscular neck, good topline with lovely tail carriage, good rear quarters, moved well, shown in super coat with lovely markings in beautiful condition.

Doberman

Puppy (2-1)

1. Bowdler (Mr & Mrs) – Rosebebe Beam Me Up For Intervention – 9-month-old confident brown dog with tan markings. Lovely profile when stacked, maturing nicely. Clean head, with slight stop, flat cheeks, nose colouring correct, neat ears set correctly, alert dark eyes of correct shape and colour. Scissor bite. Shoulder blade and upper arm good, parallel front, forechest developing nicely, topline slopping slightly, with a nice tail set good hindquarters still developing, beautiful tight feet, a little unsettled on the move, presented in beautiful condition. Reserve Best of Breed and Best Puppy in Breed.

Postgraduate(3,3)

1. Caldicott (Mrs) – Atitaur Cirilla With Philmont JW – 3-year-old confident alert back both with beautiful tan markings, a clean cut head with a good depth of muzzle, flat cheeks and tight lips, lovey dark almond shaped eyes, fabulous expression, colour of nose correct. Correct ear placement. Dentition good with the correct scissor bite. Lovely lean neck, shoulder blades and upper arms of correct proportion, well developed forechest, lovely strong topline, slightly sloping, ribs well sprung, nice tuck up, well developed hindquarters, a very balanced girl with excellent reach and drive, beautiful tight cat like feet. She moved effortlessly and with purpose. Presented in beautiful condition. Best of Breed.

Leonberger

1. Probert (Mr & Mrs) – Morwinas Warhammer – 4-year-old dog, well off for bone and substance. Lovely kind eye, showing no haw, correct ear placement, scissor bite, strong neck, good length to shoulder blades and upper arms, with a good lay of shoulders, nice straight legs, lovely deep, broad chest, firm topline, which he held on the move, hindquarters well muscled with moderate bend of stifle, standing on tight feet slightly 10 to 2, moved well. Best of Breed.

Rottweiler

Open (7,5)

1. Franklin, Franklin & Hucker – Bevanray Carlos JW – 23-month-old dog, beautiful profile on the stack, well balanced dog, outgoing and confident boy, a lovely example of the breed, with correct markings. He has a masculine head with good width of skull, length, a deep muzzle, alert dark oval eyes, correct ear setting, and shape to ear. Good dentition, with scissor bite, strong muscular neck flowing into a straight back. He is well off for bone and substance, shoulders well laid back, front legs are muscular and straight. He has a deep broad chest, with a lovely spring of ribs, good depth of brisket, hindquarters well muscled, a good bend of stifle. He stands on compact feet with well arched toes. Movement was powerfully and effortless with excellent reach and drive, maintaining his topline, he carried his tail beautifully. Best of Breed and Group 2

2. Davies (Mrs) – Shalkato Fire and Water, 8-month-old bitch, full of confidence, maturing nicely. Lovely outline on the stack, a well-balanced young lady with good bone and substance. Feminine clean head with neat ear placement, dark eyes of correct shape, dentition good with a scissor bite. Straight front, chest developing nicely, straight back, hindquarters devoting nicely, good bend of stifle, moved well, maintaining topline, carried tail well on the move. Best Puppy in Breed and Puppy Group 4.

Newfoundland

1. Carter (Miss)- Zentaur The Fizz Factor ShCEx- 4 ½ year old black dog, beautiful outline on the stack, well balanced with plenty of bone and substance. Masculine head with good fill, a kind expression, neat well-placed ears, and lovely dark eyes of correct shape, with tight rims, forechest good, straight front with good shoulder placement, stands on beautiful, webbed feet. Brisket deep, a firm level topline, a good spring of rib and a good underline. He moved effortlessly round the ring with excellent reach and drive maintaining his topline, carrying his tail well. Best of Breed and Group 3.

Siberian Husky

1. Stimpson (Mrs) – Articskies Forest Fairy At Adellarz – A medium-sized 17 month old bitch who is maturing nicely, she has a lovely balanced profile with a finely chiselled feminine head with defined stop, almond shaped walled- eyes, neat medium sized erect triangular ears which are well furred inside and out. A straight front with deep chest, good lay of shoulder, level topline with a good spring of rib. Hindquarters parallel and well muscled, good bend of stifle, moved with grace and power around the ring. Best of Breed.

2. Crowther (Mrs) – Kobuk Foxtail Lily- 7 year old bitch, she is balanced and a lovely profile when stacked, shown in good coat, a chiselled feminine head with a defined stop, almond shaped eyes, straight front with a good lay of shoulder, level topline, well muscled hindquarters with a good bend of stifle, nice neat feet moved well round the ring. Presented in lovey condition. Reserve Best Of Breed.

Working Group

1. Manix, Manix and English -CH Waldeshelf Bjorn To Be King- Bernese Mountain Dog- as per breed critique.

2. Franklin, Franklin & Hucker – Bevanray Carlos JW – Rottweiler – as per breed critique.

3. Carter (Miss)- Zentaur The Fizz Factor ShCEx – Newfoundland – as per breed critique.

4. Cox (Mrs) Dancing In The Moonlight of Black Hungary At Rainwilds (IMP NDS)- Bullmastiff – put through to the group by Gary Quest. A nicely balanced 11 month old brindle dog, well off for size, bone and substance, well balanced square headpiece, nice neat ear set, kind dark eyes and lovely expression, broad muzzle, excellent pigmentation, dentition good, deep well sprung ribcage, moderate turn to stifle, moved lovely round the ring, presented in lovely condition.

Working Puppy Group

1. Richards (Mrs) – Markinshell Pombear At Dajox- Boxer- Red fawn dog 7 ½ year old, looks lovely in profile, lovely headpiece – broad skull and neatly placed ears with a strong muzzle and a pronounced stop, straight front with tight elbows, good bone, good topline slightly sloping, well muscled hindquarters good rear angulation, good reach and drive which enabled him to move powerfully around the ring. Tight catlike feet.

2. Crowther (Mrs)- Kobuk Foxtail Lily- As per breed critique.

Special Veteran 10+Years

Crowther (Mrs) – Skimarque Snowfall Lacie VW – 13 year old bitch, who most definitely is not showing her age, she is balanced and has a lovely profile when stacked, a chiselled feminine head with kind almond shaped eyes, straight front with a good lay of shoulder, level topline, well muscled hindquarters and a good bend of stifle, nice neat feet, moved well. Presented in lovey condition.

Junior Handling

6-11 years

1. Evie-May Smart - 9 years old, a confident and very smartly presented , handling a Shetland Sheepdog, she gave a particularly good standard of handling, she showed the teeth and bite confidently She carried out the patterns correctly, smooth lead changes, moved at the correct pace, never coming between the dog and judge. Observant and communicated with her dog.

2. Emma Leyland – 11 years old, a confident and very smartly presented, handling a Golden Retriever, she carried out the patterns correctly, she showed the teeth and bite of her dog, she gave a good standard of handling with only one fault, moved at correct pace, communicated with her dog.

12– 16 years

1. Lula Stower – 12 years old, very smartly presented, handling a Briard. This young lady impressed me, in a strong class of handlers. Showed the teeth and bite of her dog correctly. Pattern work was to a high standard with excellent lead changes, she never came between the dog and judge. Lula presented herself and the dog beautifully, moving at the correct pace, very observant and communicated with her dog.

2. Lillie Betty – 15 years old, handling a Basset Fauve De Bretagne. A very smartly presented young lady Showed the teeth and bite of her dog correctly. Lillie moved her dog at the correct pace, her pattern work was neat and her overall presentation was excellent.

Adult Handling

17-39 years

1. Paige Edens - handling a Japanese Spitz. A very smartly presented. Showed the teeth and bite of her dog correctly. Paige moved her dog at the correct pace, her pattern work was neat, lead changes tidy, observant and communicated with her dog, her overall presentation was excellent. Reserve Best Handler.

2. Hana Holden - handling a Flat Coated Retriever Hana was smartly presented. Showed the teeth and bite of her dog correctly and gave a very good standard of handling. She carried out the patterns, correctly with smooth lead changes, observant and communicated with her dog.

40+

1. Shelagh Crowther  – handling a Siberian Husky. Very smartly presented. Showed the teeth and bite of her dog correctly. Shelagh moved her dog at the correct pace, her pattern work was neat, lead changes tidy, observant and communicated with her dog, her overall presentation was excellent. Best Adult Handler.

2. Tristan Rycroft – handling a Smooth Haired Dachshund, Tristan presented himself very smartly, he’s showed the teeth and bite of his dog correctly, carried out the patterns correctly with smooth lead changes, he was observant and communicated with his dog.

AV Puppy Stakes

2. Daniels (Miss)- Michelroy Earl Grey- 10 month old dog who is developing well. Beautifully balanced boy with plenty of bone and substance, lovely head, correctly balanced with flat skull, lovey ear placement, beautiful dark eyes, correct scissor bite, lovely kind expression. Neck muscling well, with good lay of shoulder, strong straight front, beautiful round compacted feet, level topline, good rear angulation. He moved with lovely reach and drive.

Kibby (Mrs) – TrimereTaylor Maid At Pinhays JW ShCEx OSW- English Springer Spaniel – Liver and white bitch, 4 ½ years old, beautiful profile when stacked, a beautifully balanced happy girl with plenty of bone and substance, lovely head, correctly balanced well chiseled under the eyes, lovey ear placement, dark eyes, kind expression correct scissor bite. Neck strong, good lay of shoulder, strong straight front, and a deep chest. Beautiful round compacted feet, level topline, good rear angulation. She moved with lovely reach and drive.

2. Barnett and Carter (Mr & Mr) – CH Alakims Perfect Illusion ShCEx - Lhasa Apso – 4 ½ year old Sandy coloured bitch, beautiful profile when stacked, a lovely balanced happy girl, wearing a stunning long jacket. Beautiful head, correctly balanced ears, well feathered with correct placement, dark eyes, slightly undershot. Neck strong and arched, excellent lay of shoulder, strong straight front. Beautiful round catlike feet, level topline, good rear angulation. Such a sassy mover.
