Whippet Critique – Poole Canine Club 17/5/26

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the Committee for inviting me to judge at this friendly, well run show. Thank you also to the exhibitors for entering under me, I had some hard choices to make and some lovely Whippets to go over. Last, but not least, a big thank you to my fabulous stewards, Katrina and Kirk, for keeping our ring running smoothly. The weather was kind to us during breed judging but the rain poured during the Groups however my BOB and BPIB showed their socks off, both gaining group placings, huge congratulations to them.

Puppy Dog or Bitch (3,1)

1st Howgate and Hull, Palmik Raindrop, 9 month old Bitch. A lovely head with such a sweet expression into an elegant neck and down into smooth shoulders. Good depth of chest and brisket and nice rear angulation. Held her topline as she moved freely round the ring with drive showing off her daisy cutting action. Pleased to award her BPIB and fabulous to watch her win Hound Puppy Group 1.

2nd Jones and Jones and Perry, Osterfen Itazura With Chelynnah, 6 month old Bitch. A young pup, less mature than the winner, but with a nice shape and the dearest little face. Good head with a on a long neck. Moderate bladed bone and good spring of pastern. A lovely S line and well bent stifles. A bit excitable on the move but as she went round the ring she showed some lovely free movement.

Yearling Dog or Bitch (1,0)

1st De Graffham, Cleeton We Go Together At Firesprite. Almost two year old dog. Masculine but not too big, alert expression on a quality head and elegant neck. A deep chest, good ribs and a firm back with definite tuck up. Lovely on the move with reach and drive, feet thrown low over the ground.

Novice Dog or Bitch (1,0)

1st White, Pastida Cruz Iscaglades. 2 year old dog. Elegant male with a long lean head and kind expression with a strong neck. Definite tuck up, firm, broad thighs and good bend of stifle. Stands naturally over a lot of ground. Moved well with powerful drive from the back.

Graduate Dog or Bitch (2,0)

1st De Graffham, Cleeton We Go Together At Firesprite.

2nd Howgate and Hull, Palmik Raincheck, 9 month old Dog. Litter brother to BPIB, a hard decision in the challenge as both lovely dogs. A quality head on a long neck and a pleasing topline with a gentle rise over his loin. Well arched knuckles and neat feet on moderately bladed bone all helping him show off an easy stride as he moved.

Limit Dog or Bitch

1st Howgate and Hull, Tervanty Dragon Song At Palmik JW, almost 2 year old bitch. Beautiful girl, elegant shape and pleasing size. Lovely head and neck into good shoulders, moderate bladed bone and good spring of pastern. A well held topline and broad back with a gentle arch over her loin and strong rear quarters. What a graceful mover; she went round the ring effortlessly on neat feet, with a good reach and lovely daisy cutting action. So pleased to award her BOB and thrilled when she then took Hound Group 2.

Open Bitch (3,0)

1st Woodward, Tervanty Magic Dragon JW, almost 2 year old bitch. Pushed hard for BOB and I see she is a litter sister to the overall winner. Beautiful curvy girl, showing both strength and elegance. A quality head and elegant neck into correct shoulders. Good front angulation, smooth back, broad thighs, good bend of stifle with well let down hocks. A lovely size with a graceful outline as she glided low over the ground on neat feet clipping those daisies with ease.

2nd White, Iscaglades Goldilocks, 5 years old bitch. Nice head, long muscular neck into good shoulders and moderate bladed bone. Deep brisket, plenty of heart room, long back with a graceful arch over the loin. Broad thighs helping to drive her nicely round the ring.
