Minehead & District Canine Society Open Show

Firstly I would like to thank the society for the appointment and the hospitality I received at the show. What a lovely, friendly and accommodating society. Thank you to my steward for keeping me on the straight and narrow and finally thank you to the exhibitors for their entries. I had very little absentees and although everyone, canine and human, were feeling the heat, spirits remained high. On the whole placements were accepted with grace, I am usually ringside following judging appointments as I like to stay for the groups when I can, and I’m always more than happy to talk to exhibitors after the judging.

Dalmatian

This was a really lovely entry of Dalmatians. All temperaments were impeccable and are a credit to their owners.

1st Bridge & Meyer’s Tamilanda Staropramen For Akoni

Approaching 11 months old, a very smart richly coloured liver boy who was having a great time in the ring. I do love seeing puppies having fun and this boy is such a little character. Evenly spotted, deep chest and good shoulder placement. Good topline and he moves with good reach and drive for one so young. He is muscling up in all the right places, has good bend of stifle with tight cat feet. Stood alone but a very worthy 1st place. I will really look forward to watching him mature. BPIB

This was such a lovely class, and I really had to split hairs for placings. Some really lovely dogs were placed further down the line than they deserved.

1st Carrington’s Caprilli Remember Me For Ladallyvita

14 month old bitch, one who I’ve judged before, and she’s really coming on and developing well. Very pretty black spotted with a great personality, very feminine head with cheeky expression, good deep chest, strong neck and good front. Nice firm topline and she moves with reach and drive. Pulled out all the stops to be awarded BOB and I was thrilled to see her take G3.

2nd Blackmore’s Charismatic Caspar Of Morejinx

Just pipped to the post on the final move around. 21 month old male, not quite the substance of 1st but a nice young man who maturing well. He has a kind expression, strong neck and chest is developing well. Good topline he keeps on the move, good tail set and lovely bend of stifle. An all round nicely balanced dog.

3rd Kaal & Jones’ Rapanooey Rosebank Von Schunikka JW

Two veterans here who are an absolute credit to the breed and their owners. Both lovely in their own way and I wish I could have given two first places!

1st Bridge, Meyer & Britton’s Keiradal Moulin Rouge At Akoni

9 years old and she powered around the ring showing how much she can still move. Very nice make and shape, heavier spotted than some today but this doesn’t detract from her quality. Beautiful head and expression, strong neck, good deep chest, firm topline with correct tailset. Good bend of stifle with well let down hocks. She’s a really super girl who was enjoying her day out, her tail didn’t stop wagging. Shown in super fit condition. Pushed hard in the challenge.

2nd Kaal’s Dallydyl Dream Of Manderley To Olbero

7.5 years old, really pretty girl, lighter spotted and longer cast than 1st but still very balanced. Shown in good hard condition. Nice dark eye with a gentle expression, good head and muzzle with a strong neck and deep chest. Good bend of stifle with well let down hocks and tight cat feet. Nicely muscled with good second thigh. Sadly moved very slightly close behind today.

Four very different types in this class, all with their own merits

1st Davies’ Maddidalli True Loves Kiss JW

Approaching 2 years old, very nice young lady. Evenly spotted, lovely strong neck leading to deep chest and well laid shoulders. Firm topline she keeps on the move with correct tailset. Good bend of stifle, well let down hocks with tight feet. Nicely boned with good substance, and well pigmented black spots on a crisp white coat to complete the picture. Moved with good reach and drive. Pushed hard in the challenge and I was happy to award her RBOB.

2nd Steyndal Diamond White At Dalens JW

Very showy black spotted bitch, approaching 5 years old, who sadly was slightly out of coat. Lovely feminine head with strong neck, deep chest, good lay of shoulder and correct tail set. At one with her handler but wasn’t as positive on the move as 1st today.

3rd Bridge, Meyer & Britton’s Akoni Buttery D’Or

A lovely girl who I’ve judged before, but sadly her mind was elsewhere today. She deserves a mention because she’s such a nice balanced bitch, but the smells of the ground distracted her today.

Shih Tzu

My first time judging this lovely breed and the exhibitors were all so friendly and welcoming. There were some super dogs entered, but I think the heat did affect a few as the sun was really blazing by the time they came into the ring.

1st Wood’s Snowshoes Easy Tiger To Ralphina

Gold Brindle & White 6.5 month old bitch who oozes confidence. She is developing well, nice feminine head, good eye set which give her a really sweet expression. Strong neck into well laid shoulders, deep chest and nice tail set. She moves well for one so young. BPIB & RBOB and I was thrilled to see her go PG3. I will keep an eye out for her as she matures as I think she’s going to be quite the little superstar.

Such a close class

1st Diffey’s Marhilway Little Bit Of Edge

Gold & White 12 month old bitch who pulled out all the stops on the final go around. Very nice character and so much to like. She has lovely front and rear angulations. Super coat with nice ear and tail carriage. Strong neck into well laid shoulders and deep chest. Moved with such spark and she just couldn’t be denied BOB.

2nd Smith’s Ralphina All About Otto At Snowshoes

Gold & White 15 month old dog. Just pipped to the post, this lad is just super and was unlucky to meet 1st on top form. He has a real “look at me” expression, with lovely dark eyes and his coat is superb. Lovely front with deep chest, good firm topline and good tail set. I really fell in love with him, he should go far.

1st Smith’s Snowshoes Black Bettie

Black 17 month old bitch who was a delight to judge. She was Miss Personality and really made me smile. She has a gorgeous coat, really good front and rear angulations, lovely dark eyes, good ear and tail placement and she moves with purpose. Pushed hard in the challenge but sadly didn’t show as well as she did in her class. A really nice all round balanced bitch who is a credit to her owner.

1st Diffey’s Ch Marhilway Explorer The Edge

5 year old gold and white bitch who is a worthy champion but I think she was feeling the heat today. She is a very balanced smart bitch who is very balanced all round. She has a gorgeous coat which is a really rich gold colour, lovely dark eyes, good jaw, deep chest, nice topline and lovely rear angulation. I think if we had a bit of shade over the ring she would have moved with that bit extra spark which I was looking for but she’s a real sweetheart.

Tibetan Terriers

Another breed which was my first appointment and it was a lovely selection of dogs so thank you. Also another group of friendly and welcoming exhibitors, all of whom accepted their placings with grace.

1st Chamberlain’s Araki Divine Dzine

Very nice 6 month old black and white quality puppy bitch, still very much a baby and at that slightly rangey stage but there is so much to like. She is developing nicely all over and muscling up well. She has a lovely feminine head, dark eye and has good lay of shoulder and firm top line. Her temperament is impeccable and she moves well for one so young. A really nice young lady and I will keep an eye on how she develops. BPIB and so pleased to see her go PG4.

1st Rutley’s Waterley Time To Shine At Javey

Tricolour 15 month old very nice bitch who moves like a pro. She has a really lovely character. Good head proportion with nice eyes, deep chest, well laid back shoulders and good topline. She has good angulations front and rear with lovely feet. Nice coat and shes so attentive to her handler. Should go far, I will watch her with interest. RBOB

2nd Lawrence’s Waterley Soldier Of Love

Black and White dog just out of puppy and was just pipped to the post. Shares a sire with 1st and many of her attributes He has a gorgeous coat, is a really nice make and shape, good angulations and moves with good reach and drive. Really nice inquisitive boy, unlucky to meet 1st on such good form.

1st Plummer, Knight & Bingham’s Araki Colour My World For Tetsikarma JW

Two year old gold sable and white bitch, my notes say “wow”. This girl gives you goosebumps when she moves, she makes it look effortless even in the heat. She has a lovely feminine head, good neck and shoulder placement, good front and rear angulations and nice feet. Her coat is just gorgeous and she has a great personality. All round amazing young lady. BOB.

Both of these handlers were really polite young ladies and there wasn’t much between them at all. Both were a joy to judge and could handle for me any time.

1st Lillie Betty

 Showing a Basset Fauve De Bretagne. Very smart young lady who was completely aware of where I was at all times. Always had one eye on me and one on the dog. She showed dogs teeth well. Completed her T shape with accuracy and really was at one with her dog, she was so kind and considerate to her. She didn’t put a foot wrong the whole class.

2nd Beau Casey

Showing a Russian Toy. Sadly her T wasn’t as balanced as 1st, but she has such a rapport with her dog that I really think this partnership will shine. She didn’t stop talking to her dog and performed nice tight corners. Keep at it as you’re a super handler.
