Breed: Retriever (Golden)

YEOVIL & DISTRICT CANINE SOCIETY OPEN SHOW

SUNDAY, 3 MAY 2026

Firstly, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge our delightful breed – I was honoured to have the highest entry of exhibitors for all breeds, so thank you for allowing me to assess your delightful dogs. The setting of this show was really lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed my day in the Dorset sunshine, going over some very nice dogs indeed.

There was a lovely atmosphere around the ring and as we were last to go into our ring I was delighted to watch the judging of the other breeds beforehand and later to see my BOB, take Group 3 in the Gundog Group.

Puppy (6 entries, 2 absent)

1ST SUNNYOAK STRING OF PEARLS

11 ½ month cream puppy bitch, caught my eye immediately she entered the ring, in gorgeous coat and condition. She has the most feminine head, with gentle expression, lovely dark pigmentation, correct eye and ear setting and good dentition, her elegant neck flows into well laid back shoulders and good return of upper arm. She is nicely angulated front and rear, with plenty of bone, she is short coupled, with nothing exaggerated, her overall confirmation is well balanced enabling her to cover the ground well, it was a pleasure to watch this youngster move around the ring maintaining her topline at all times. A very nice puppy indeed. Delighted to award her BP

2ND IT TAKES TWO ANARCHIA BOX WONDERTEMPLE (IMP POL)

Nice puppy dog, 10 months, who has many good points, he is well angulated front and rear, dark eye with correct eye setting, nice layback of shoulders and straight front on nice tight catlike feet, level topline which he held on the move.

3RD STRADCOT MAKING MEMORIES

YEARLING (10 entries, 5 absent)

1ST LEIGHSHAM SWEENEY TODD

Super boy, 14 months mid gold coat which was just starting to go, but this did not distract from his excellent confirmation, he is just so well balanced front and rear and paints a very nice picture indeed. He has the most gorgeous head, masculine but without coarseness, with a strong muzzle and melting expression with fabulous dark pigmentation. Clean well-muscled neck into well laid back shoulders and return of upper arm, straightest of fronts, nice tight elbows and lovely catlike feet, he is short coupled with well sprung ribs and deep through the heart. He has good bend of stifle with well let down hocks, his topline is superb which he did not loose on the move. He is at one with his handler at all times and he simply floats around the ring with good length of stride, straight up and down and in profile. I liked him very much and was delighted to award him RBOB and will watch his future with interest.

2ND ASHBYGLEN I DREAMED A DREAM

An old favourite of mine, that I like very much, he has just left puppy and is now in with the older boys. He has the most gorgeous well proportioned head, shown in beautiful cream coat, he has a lovely straight front with nice tight elbows. He presents a very nice picture indeed when standing and on the move and it is a pleasure to watch the rapport between him and his handler who handles him sympathetically and gets the best out of him; he simply lost out in this class today to a more mature boy who has more ring presence and maturity, but he is progressing nicely and I was delighted to award him another class today.

3RD STRADCOT MAKING MEMORIES

GRADUATE (6 entries, 1 absent)

1ST SHEARSTONE LIVE IN THE DREAM AT FIVELMS JW

As soon as this beautifully constructed bitch entered the ring, I could not avert my eyes. She is just so well balanced in glamorous full cream coat and condition and she knows how to show all her lovely attributes off, both standing and on the move. She has a most feminine head, with dark pigmentation, an elegant neck flowing into well laid back shoulders, straightest of fronts, catlike feet, with nice tight elbows. Good forechest, good spring of rib and is deep through the heart. Her well let down hocks and excellent second thighs enabled her to move around the ring with purpose and drive, maintaining her topline and superb tailset.

It was my pleasure to award her BOB and see her go Group 3 in a very well attended gundog group.

2ND AURGENTIOUS DEAROV IM

Another nice boy, who presented a pleasing picture, nicely balanced throughout, good bone on a straight front with catlike tight feet, gorgeous masculine head without coarseness, he has a good shoulder blade and upper arm length with straight front legs and well defined hindquarters which enabled him to move well he is very nice and there are lots to like, he just lost out to my winner who is the ultimate show girl.
