SOUTHAMPTON & DISTRICT CANINE ASSOCIATION 6 APRIL 2026. GUNDOGS

My thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge at this well organized show, to my efficient steward and to the exhibitors for their entries.

Gundog Group. From a hotly contested group, my overall winner was the big winning IWS, Bradleys Sh Ch Stanegate Stage debut . I’ve seen this girl many times at shows and was delighted to get the opportunity to judge her. She commands attention and has such ring presence you can’t ignore her. Always at one with her handler, her movement is a joy to watch, she oozes quality from head to tail,lovely feminine head, kind eye, well made body, coat of tight curls and in fabulous boom. 2nd Tyes Field Spaniel, Irisbel greatest showman at Tymora, JW, handsome lad that I judged last year and he is maturing into himself, like Fields do. Lovely head with kind eye and expression, Well off for bone and strong body.Moved out well showing drive from hocks and covering the ground, in great coat and condition. 3rd Nova Scotia DTR, Nevers Tollelkin dream cove at Sheldrake JW SGWC, another I judged last year and still like him. Handsome lad, wedge shaped head with lovely expression, holds pleasing outline,well made front, deep chest, moved well holding topline, good tailset, dense coat, in fabulous bloom.

  4th Challis Vizsla, Vizslanya Vizi JW, Another quality exhibit from this kennel who breed typy vizslas. Feminine, elegant head, good forequarters, with depth of chest and well ribbed, strong rear, moved with purpose holding outline, well muscled up

Also close up were the Cocker and SWD who just lost out today on maturity to the older dogs and the Flat Coat, Goldie, and ESS were also serious contenders today.

Gundog Puppy group, again full of quality puppies. 1st Clarkes Goldie Sunnyoak string of pearls, eye catching puppy, pretty feminine head with soft eye and expression, correct bite, deep chest and good spring of ribs, strong second thigh, round cat tight feet, moved well holding outline to top this group, in lovely bloom. 2nd Irish Setter, Prangles Heathclare Faberge, another quality pup from this kennel and I have done her relatives well in the past, Pretty feminine head,lovely soft eye, well balanced body and moved well holding outline, very promising. 3rd Hazletines Bracco Bracchini burst your bubble for Corotine, eye catching lad, presents a pleasing outline, liked his head and neck,body developing well, good skin, moved out better here than earlier on as more settled, well muscled up. 4th Cocker.Burnets Charmen hot stuff, pretty girl, lovely head, good length of neck, compact in body, really came alive on the move and had a cheeky attitude you cant ignore. Very close up was the field who didn’t have the show attitude of the top 4 but was so close.

Bracco. Only one entered, see puppy group 3.

Gordon Setters. Puppy 0. Junior (1) 1st Halls Rhiwerrig caratacus by Melview, lovely headpiece, broad skull and deep muzzle, well set ears, good length of neck, a little rangy and raw in body at the moment but is balanced, and has time on his side. Moved out well. Happy chap. Post grad( 3) 1st and BOB Tye’s Roydack black knight at Tymora, impressive dog, has lovely profile, well balanced front and rear, handsome head of correct proportions, clearly defined stop and lean cheeks, good depth of chest, well ribbed, broad hips with muscular thighs , moved with drive and purpose. 2nd Whitings Locksheath fallen acorn, feminine classic head, soft eye, rich tan, large nostrils, moved holding topline and has good tailset, feet not as good as 1st, in lovely coat and condition. 3rd Whitings Lockheath April in paris. Open( 4, 1a) 1st and res BOB, Harkers Sh Ch Hernwood achilles by Ettrick JW VW, headed a class of veterans who didn’t look their ages. Handsome boy, classic masculine head, defined stop, clean cheeks, broad nose, good length of neck leading to well balanced body, well placed shoulders and deep ribs, strong rear, just preferred outline of post grad winner when it came to BOB, but a worth champion. 2nd Whitings Locksheath true baloo, 10 years young lady, not showing her age, feminine head of good proportions, deep muzzle, well set ears, level topline, good angulation fore and aft, well handled. 3rd Whitings DT CH Locksheath princess tiana JW.

Golden Retrievers. Puppy( 7,2a) 1st Sunnyoak string of pearls, see PG1. 2nd Brewers Stradcot making memories, well balanced pleasing puppy, just preferred head and expression of 1st, good bite and depth of muzzle, clean neck leads to well placed shoulders, deep chested, well bent stifles and strong rear, moved out well, in good coat and condition. 3rd Predmiestinas Navilis rising hope for Andemavis imp ukr. Junior (4, 2a) 1st and Res BOB Jackson Haines Leighsham legally blonde, well balanced girl with beautiful head and expression, clean neck leads to good shoulders and deep chest, legs placed well under body, strong through front and rear, tight feet, moved well holding level topline and correct tailset. 2nd S String of pearls. Post grad(9, 2a) Hard class to judge as some differing types, 1st Jackson Haines Leighsham sweeney todd, litter brother to junior winner, but not quite as together as her today, broad masculine head , good bite, strong muzzle, well boned and balanced through body. Moved out well holding level topline, in lovely coat and condition. 2nd Linfield Tonara Yellowstone JW, judged him last year and see he is developing well, handsome lad with well balanced head, dark eye, correct bite, clean neck leading to well laid shoulders,strong boned, tight round feet, just longer in loin than 1st . 3rd Edmunds Sunnyoak Eiffel tower.

Limit (4, 1a) 1st and BOB Gullivers Tonara Moon walk. Another one I judged last year and still like him, handsome lad with masculine head and dark eye,good front with deep chest,good hocks and feet, well off for bone, pleasing outline, moved well.In great coat and condition and considered for group place. 2nd Witheys Rosainte major hero, Also judged previously, masculine mid gold chap, nice head but slightly preferred eye of 1st, good through body, well boned, strong second thighs, powered round ring but flies tail a tad. 3rd Hurrells Klassical legacy from double gold amoung Gilliansongold. Imp. Open ( 5,1a) 1st R Major hero. 2nd Todds Van gogh of sunshine valley with Toddrose Imp bel, jw, slightly larger chap than 1st and broader in skull, has soft eye and expression, good neck and deep chest, strong second thigh and in great coat. 3rd Hurrels Kadaka Kaos at Gillansgold.

Nova scotias. Puppy (2) 1st, BPIB Smiths Tollisty Jotunn, headed the class of 2 litter brothers, has good body for age, was bit more finished than no 2 today and more positive on move, but likely to change places, promising head, alert expression, high ear set, good teeth,pleasing outline, in good coat. 2nd Lashlys Tollisty Thrymheim, similar to 1, also promising in head and body,soft eye, good neck, held outline on the move, both happy lads.Junior(0) Post Grad. (4) 1st Strevens Tollisty you cant decline, handsome lad, striking wedge shaped head, good construction through, straight front with good rib, shown in great bloom, moved well pipping his litter sister to 2nd place. 2nd Lashlys Tollisty blow your mind at Citanbel JW, feminine version of 1st, lovely wedge shape head of good proportions , alert eye and expression, balanced through body, level topline good tailset, also in lovely bloom. 3rd Smiths Tollisty couldn’t care less, another sibling.

Limit (5) 1st and res BOB Burchells Flavour of Tokaj aszu las vegas to Tivalake JW Imp Pol, attractive girl, who came into her own on the move, well balanced with pleasing outline, liked her head and expression, well constructed front, just lost BOB on maturity,but one to watch,2nd Strevens Tollisty Sincha JW, another pretty girl with pleasing head, attentive to her handler, good through body, level topline, strong loins,well muscled up , just preferred movement of 1st today. 3rd Hunts Wests and Mcdowells Wakaduze dotame.

Open (3) 1st BOB G3, Tollelkin dream cove at Sheldrake, see group. 2nd Burchells Oryxes kissing the waves on Tivalake Imp Can, SGWC, see this girl has been working and certainly is fit for function, feminine wedge shaped head, lovely expression, level topline and strong loin, good depth of chest and in good muscular condition, moved well holding outline. 3rd Strevens Sh Ch Tollelkin caife gaelach at Tollisty. A quality trio.

Labs, just 3 here today. Junior (1) Cusworths Kenleap anna of chocomore, young chocolate girl who not been to a show for ages and was a bit hesitant today , ok head and body, needs more substance, a happy mover. Post grad( 2,1a) 1st and res BOB Cusworths Haylingbay robins bay of chocomore, choc girl not long off maternity duties so not regained her figure just yet, balanced body, shiny coat, has nice eye and expression, happy on the move. Open (1) 1st and BOB Wallaces Tiaja love in the sun, happy yellow girl I have judged before, now a veteran and starting to show her age, feminine head, kind eye, well off for bone, good neck leading to well laid shoulders strong second thighs, moved out wagging her tail.

AVNSC Gundog. Puppy 0 Junior (2,1a) 1st and res nsc Weimaraner, Lord and Broomfield Chilternway Coriandrum, little rangy in body at the moment as needs to fill out in chest, good length of neck, well muscled second thighs, moved well holding outline, happy girl. Post grad (5, 2a) 1st C Coriandrum. 2nd Bishops Lagotto Bedeslea prada linear rossa, thought would be my winner as has lovely outline stood but didn’t move well and mind not on the job in hand,broad head, round expressive eyes balanced body, thick woolly curls, well muscled up. 3rd SWD Bennets Newports Lendever valiant hero. Open (3, 1a) 1st Searles SWD Cravessa Snoopy, saw this lad as a puppy and liked him then, rustic appearance, pleasing head with flat skull , expressive eyes and good nostrils, strong muscular body, deep chest and good ribs, close up in group for placing but I feel his best is yet to come, an exciting prospect. 2nd Tollerfield Lagotto Gaesten top tinker. Didn’t feel he was giving his best today,good size and shape, balanced head with square muzzle, good through body, strong hocks and round feet. woolly coat of curls,

Varieties:

Gundog Puppy.(15). 1st Welch & Hazeltines Pointer Corotine noir blossom with Hookwood, eye catching girl, classic pointer outline, feminine head and eye, good depth of chest and ribs, well balanced body, strong loins, moved effortlessly showing reach and drive. 2nd Murrays Field Sonnetend money for nothing, lovely feminine head with noble expression, moderate stop, almond eye with soft expression, balanced through body, well off foe bone already, lovely glossy coat and moved well. Was close up for puppy group placing. 3rd Cocker, Meakins Manchela fire and ice. Junior (10) 1st Cardiffs Pointer Tenshilling lets pretend with Prosperity, another eye catching pointer full of breed type, presents pleasing outline, nice head, deep chest, strong loin, good bend of stifle and well muscled second thigh. Moved well. 2nd Vizsla, Petitclercs Listerlo amber management, 13 months so just in junior and not as mature as 1st. lean head, well set ears, good muzzle and nostrils, has level back and well muscled rear, happy mover. 3rd Lewis Slovak Huntingtales harpoon imp Nor. Post grad (17) very good class. 1st Flat coat, Gordons Oiyou Waldorf, very happy lad, full of show attitude, liked his head and expression, has good depth of chest and rib, moderate stifles and hocks, well arched feet, flowed round the ring , coat gleaming in the sun. well handled. 2nd ESS Taubmans Meonstoke wild thyme IR CH. Eye catching girl, full of breed type, balanced head with with chiselling below almond eyes , good length of ears, strong muscular body, tight feet, moved with the swing from shoulders and drive from rear, very close up to 1st. 3rd Cardiffs Pointer Freebreeze pixar at Prosperity. Open (4) 1st Hydons ESS Loxbourne hustle and bustle IRJCH, pretty headed girl, soft eye and expression, good muzzle and lips, compact body, strong boned, and muscular through body, in great bloom and moved the best in this class. 2nd Archers American cocker Zarcrest after cut for Tallisbay, very pretty headed girl, compact balanced body, little upright in shoulder, but has good depth of chest and rib, moved with drive holding topline and correct tailset , just needs a little thinning of back coat to complete the picture. 3rd Goldie R Major Hero.
