North of England Dalmatian Club Open Show 05/04/2026

Judge; Mrs Ann-Marie Finlay (Dalfin)

I must express my sincere thanks to the officers and committee of the club for their nomination to judge this show and to the members for their votes. It is indeed an absolute honour to judge at a Breed Club show and this is an experience that will be long held in my memory.

A special mention to my 2 very efficient Stewards Steven & Stephen for keeping the ring flowing smoothly, you are both worth your weight in gold as I know a club show is no easy task.

Thank you to you all for bringing your wonderful dogs, They are a credit to you and your dedication to training and presenting them. I was delighted with the quality I had to assess and it was a pleasure to have to make some very difficult decisions. Many dogs were a lovely surprise for me, I may have seen them from ringside and formed an opinion, but hands on in quite a few cases that opinion was changed. Likewise there are dogs that had not particularly caught my eye in the past but came today and changed my mind.A few notes however on the dogs and their presentation, I asked for a straight out and back to the corner and very few managed this, although most of the handlers achieved it there was little attention paid to the dogs many of which were swerving and crabbing and this made movement away and back difficult to assess. Most dogs were in good clean order although a few had dirty teeth and coats but these were in the minority

1 Veteran Dog (4/0)

1. Page, Page, Page & Howell CH Bleize De Montjuic At Winflash (Imp USA) Masculine headed black dog just into veteran classes. He is not flashy, but boy can he move and this is where he excels. He could clearly do a days work He is so balanced with a level topline held at all times, excellent muscle throughout, Good Clean Outline He has a good chest and plenty of heart room. (something that is lacking in a lot of dogs). One of the few today that has the correct tailset and carriage..BVD & Best Opposite Sex Veteran in Show

2.Richardson CH Mapplewell Pocket Rocket Another masculine without being overdone boy just into his veteran career, Well muscled, Strong neck into level topline onto correct tailset and carriage. 3.Goodswen, Ch Alphadals King Of Angels.

2 Baby Puppy Dog or Bitch (3/0) I loved this class! Such super confident puppies.

1. Short, Winflash Jacquemus At Zakaytia. 4 months old Male and easy winner of this class. He has a super head with lovely dark eyes and a melting expression. Nice even spotting throughout and moved so well for such a youngster. So calm and collected for a baby puppy. Congratulations to his owner on getting the best out of this young man at his first show. I fell in love with him! BBPIS

2. Christie, Sophtspot Xtra Spicy. Liver Male of 5 months and a more rangy in type. Very nicely marked and another that moved well. Everything as it should be in this stage of development. A charming young fellow, I loved his head and expression, Just preferred the overall picture 1 presented.

3. Hobbs & Whiting, Rapanooey Portia’s Reverie.

3 Minor Puppy Dog (3/0)

1. Locke-Mcfadzean, Winflash Fifth Avenue Over Sassafras.Excellent pigment on this Black spotted 8 month old. Well up for size but balanced overall. He has a handsome head and soft expression from his lovely dark eye, well broken ears. Good strong neck and level topline. 2. Whincup, Tamilanda Starlight Liver Spotted dog and just 6 months old, Good Overall outline and balance. Liked his head with good amber eyes and well broken ears. Plenty of bone and good feet. Ample chest for his age. Was a little hesitant but I believe he had had a bit of a fright earlier in the day and this also affected him on the move.

1. Reide-West, Jemblewood Northern Stork 9 months old Liver and beautifully marked right down to the spots on his tail. Good head on this boy with a broad skull. Clement & Marley, A Spottified Young Forseti For Perditas (Imp Bel) Another Liver of 12 months old with more even markings, A more Classic outline on this one which I very much loved and he presented such a good picture on the stand I thought him my winner, Sadly he threw it away on the move. 7 Graduate Dog (8/1)

1. Richardson, Portunes St Jimmy at Exayeex Easy winner of this class,Liver Dog with a classy outline, Good economical mover, Not the most exuberant of showmen. But has everything where it needs to be.

2. Dewcroft, Joubello Heaven Sent Black spotted, Just turned 2 years old. More sparsley spotted. He has the most beautiful headpiece with lovely dark eyes. He would have no problem following a carriage with his smooth economical and true movement. I would like however to see a little more weight on him.

3. Whitton, Thearrix One Thing Only

8 Post Graduate Dog (7/4)

1. Barry, Dalberry That Boy Is Mine. Liver Spotted 3 year old. Lovely head on this boy with good amber eye and well broken ears giving a lovely soft expression, Nicely marked all through even on his tail. Good shoulder and strong forelegs and tight feet. 2. Hobbs & Whiting, Joubello Freedom With Rapanooey. Loved the head on this 2 year old profusely spotted dog, Litter brother to 2nd in Graduate and very much of the same mold. Balanced throughout and carrying a little more weight than his brother to advantage. Lovely smooth rhythmic and economical action, However his tail carriage today was not ideal.

3. England, Silverspot Odessi Of The Sea

9 Limit Dog (14/2)

1. Corcoran & Howard Riddle, Shydally Star Gazer. I like this 2 year old dog a great deal. Evenly marked well pigmented black on a crisp white coat with a glorious head and the darkest of eyes that give him such a lovely if somewhat cheeky expression. A muscular boy with good angulation throughout and lovely tight feet. Deep chested with well sprung ribs. Standing he creates a picture but on the move he came into his own. Such a smooth action that was effortless. I could have watched him all day. At one with his handler and the more he moved the more he gave and I could not deny him this class and then later Best Dog And ultimately Best in Show. Congratulations

2. Watts, Jaxsondal Rocket Man. Liver of 3 years old and many of the same comments apply. A good solid well muscled dog that excelled on the move with much to like. 12 Veteran Bitch (12/1)

1. Gardner, Ch Dvojica Chilli Chutney For Wrendragge JW. This beautiful liver girl is rising 10 but nobody has told her! An all-time favourite of mine. Classic in outline with a beautiful head. There is nothing I can say about her that hasn’t already been said. She is foot perfect with such a smooth economical gait and no energy is wasted here. She certainly showed many of the youngsters how it is done and I could not deny her this class and then in the challenge she stepped it up a gear for Reserve Best bitch and ultimately She was my Best Veteran in Show.

2. Richardson, Ch Mapplewell Limited Edition. Black Bitch just into veteran. Super pigment and ideal for size and feminine throughout, Another that could go all day without a problem. Unfortunate to meet 1 here.

13 Minor Puppy Bitch (4/2)

1. Page, Page, Page & Howell, Winflash Coco By Chanel. I loved this well marked ultra feminine young lady with her spotty face and well broken ears giving an air of mischief. Confident youngster that was so well handled to get the best out of her. Everything as it should be at this stage in her development with good bone and angulations and plenty of forechest. On the move she was so smooth, rhythmic and correct I could not get past her for this class. She took Best Puppy Bitch with ease and later Best Puppy in Show. I will watch her career with interest.

2. Quayle & Beaumont, Cubalibre Triple Hazy. 8 month old Black of a larger size. I would not want her to grow on much more. Nicely marked girl with plenty of bone. Tailset and carriage are correct. Preferred the head and overall picture of 1

14 Puppy Bitch (8/3)

1. Hardy, Mountsorrel Moonstruck. Nicely made workmanlike but still feminine girl that topped this class. Evenly marked liver spotted and just right for size. Good chest with tight elbow and ribs well back. Good topline and tail carriage. On the move she is a powerhouse without wasting any energy.

2. Carrington, Caprilli Remember Me. Really liked this Black 10 month old. Ideal for size and more feminine than first but again many of the same comments apply. A cracking mover that is very well schooled. These 2 could change places with ease.

15 Junior Bitch (5/1)

1.Haywood-Ridgway, Sophtspot With Style At Luccombe. Beautiful Classic head on this 12 month old, Loved her overall outline with even markings. Dark eye and well broken ears. Long neck and good chest, Tight elbows and super feet. Ribs well back and super topline. Good second thigh and bend of stifle. On the move she is a joy to watch.

2.Richardson,Mapplewell Queen Bee. 14 month old with many of the same attributes. Shorter coupled with good angulation all through, did not quite match the movement of first but overall a very nice young lady.

3. Carrington, Caprilli Remember Me

16 Novice Bitch (11/5)

1. Whitton, Maddidali Frozen Heart. A new one to me! Liked this liver for her overall balance and outline. Nicely marked throughout. Pretty head with amber eye and well broken ears. Correct neck and enough chest. Firm topline and correct tailset and carriage. Another economic mover, I will watch her with interest.

2. Davies, Maddidali Auroras Heart. Black litter sister to 1 and very much from the same mould. Heavier marked right down to her spotted tail, with a charming expression framed by her well broken ears, Good depth of chest and ample rib. Firm topline. Sadly for me today she had a tendency to hold her tail high on the stand. Another that I will follow with interest.

3. Carrington, Caprilli Remember Me.

17 Graduate Bitch (6/2)

1.Townson & Pardoe, Olilou Dancing Queen At Daymadals. Black spotted Bitch just coming into her own. I have judged her previously and maturity is looking good on her. So balanced she won this class with ease. Loved her movement. To be picky she had a tendency to carry her tail high on the move but settled on the stand to paint a lovely picture.

2. Vockings, Portunes Whatsername. Well marked liver with a charming expression. Loved her for balance not quite the movement of 1 and not in her best coat which cost her this class.

3. Howard-Riddle, Shydally Stars Aligned JW.

18 Post Graduate Bitch (5/1)

1. Brooks& De Rozario, Jemblewood Jelly Baby. Black Spotted bitch with the prettiest head, ideal for size. Good angulation all through. Another that I have judged as a youngster who has matured to advantage.

2. Jenkins & Ridgway, Luccombe Strawberry Ripple. Ultra feminine and Excellent moving girl with rich liver pigment. Good lay of shoulder and elbows close. Strong forelegs and tight feet. Ample lung room on her to allow her to go all day. Good bend of stifle and well let down hocks giving her the required reach and drive.

3. Davies, Maddidali True Loves Kiss JW

19 Limit Bitch(17/9) 2 very similar bitches topping this class.

1. Barnett, Salvadorada Happy Go Lucky. Black spotted bitch that is finer all through with the prettiest of heads. Loved her for balance and her movement which gave her the class. Sadly when it came to the challenge she lost her sparkle and this cost her

2. Hughes, Carodal Coast to Coast. Another pretty headed bitch this time a rich liver. Well broken ears and amber eye. Ample amount of bone whilst retaining her femininity. Not the showiest of girls but a cracking example of the breed. Could easily have took the class on another day.

3. Bolt, Fakenham Fontanella, A quick note on this young lady who I initially thought my class winner. The picture of a carriage dog outline and clearly capable of a days work. She threw it away on movement on her individual.

20 Open Bitch(7/0) The dogs that headed this class I have judged before and they didn’t disappoint.

1. Cliffe, Shydally Stage Star. Finer Bitch with a beautiful head and lovely dark eye, Well broken ears set high and used to advantage. Strong nicely arched neck and well defined withers. Good construction and balance throughout and such an elegant moving girl. Plenty of muscle on this athletic girl and she is certainly capable of endurance. She was a joy to watch and it was my pleasure to award her Best Bitch and Best Opposite Sex in Show.

2. Foster, Perditas Tomorrowland JW. Lighter marked and more substantial bitch. Pretty head. Balanced throughout and in tip top condition. Well muscled but still so feminine. Both of these girls earned their places on movement. I called her back in to challenge for Reserve Best bitch but on this occasion, she lost out to the veteran in fine form.

3. Cubalibre Star Attraction JW

21 Special Beginners Bitch(8/1)

1. Gill, Jemblewood Stork Of Solace. Liver spotted 9 month old that placed 3rd in the puppy class. She came back more settled and focussed to take this class. Liked her for size and type.

2. Stubbins, Perditas Bean A Stormy Ride JW. Deep pigmented Black spotted bitch that was again nice for size and type. Pretty headed with such a happy disposition. Excellent condition throughout. I have seen her move much better than she did in this class.

3. Decoda’s Treasure Chest
