Many thanks to the committee for inviting me to officiate as replacement judge for Gundogs, AV classes and Groups at this well run show. My grateful thanks to Mike my very efficient steward who kept everything running perfectly. Also thank you to the exhibitors who gave me the opportunity to judge their dogs.

I thoroughly enjoyed my day judging the gundogs and was pleased with the quality of exhibits. I was spoilt for choice and was really splitting hairs with my decisions in many classes. Dogs were spotless and temperament was exemplary. I found a couple of suspect bites and a few feet that would benefit from being tighter with shorter claws. When judging I am mindful that gundogs should be fit for purpose and capable of performing the job they were originally intended to do.

ENGLISH SETTERS

1. Tucker’s WALSHAW TAKES TO THE STAGE. 7 months old confident blue belton bitch with a clean balanced outline. She has a feminine head, good length of neck, level topline, plenty of depth to chest. Correct angulation front and rear. Moved well. BOB, BP, PG4.

2. Tucker’s WALSHAW STAR STRUCK. Litter sister to 1 . Similar remarks apply. Not as confidant as her more mature sister and not as positive in movement. Given time she could well change places with her sister. RBOB.

1. Taylor and Thomas’ PINGARYPOINT PUZZLED AT KNABYNNUS. This well made bitch has an attractive outline. Pleasing head, neck of good length with no throatiness.

Forelegs straight with good bone, deep chest, ribs well sprung. She moved effortlessly on well muscled hindquarters. BOB.

1. S and K Challis’ VIZSLANYA DOMENKOS JW. I liked the attractive clean outline of this well balanced boy. He has a good head and eye colour with alert expression. His neck is strong and muscular. He has good angulation front and back which allowed him to move with drive. Stylish boy when moving. Round, tight feet with arched toes. RBOB

She has a pleasant head with good eye, clean neck, well laid shoulders and elbows close to body. Her chest is deep, back level. Angulation is good front and rear. She looks good in profile with everything in the right place. BOB

2. Hewitt’s BEL/LUX CH ORION TWO MAGYAR TIM AT VIZSELLE. Upstanding dog with clean lines. Masculine head, moderately low set ears, muscular neck of good length. Straight front. Upright pasterns. Would like his feet to be a little tighter. Looks fit for a day’s work.

1. Prangle’s HEATHCLARE FABERGE. This 11 months old bitch puppy caught my eye as she entered the ring with her lovely outline and gleaming coat. She has the most beautiful head with gentle alert expression, a clean neck of good length, correct angulation front and rear. Deep chest. Looks a picture in profile. BP PG3

2. W and A Needs’ COVARNEY MIGHTY QUINN WITH STOURFORD. 8 months old dog puppy enjoying his day out. Nice well made puppy with quite a character as he gave his handler a hard time. Moved OK.

2. Harris’ FAIRHAVEN YOUNG SOUL FOR KONAKAKELA JW (IMP SWE) Handsome dog with lean head, dark eye with intelligent expression, moderate length of neck leading into well laid shoulders. Moved well on strong quarters.

1. Allum’s ZAKHAN’S SKY DANCER DEL MACARICA. Feminine well balanced bitch with a racy outline. She has a nice head and dark eye, clean neck, straight front with deep chest. She has width to her hindquarters, well bent stifles and straight hocks. Moved well.

2. Aldridge’s CLONAGEERA WINNER TAKES ALL JW. This well built dog has everything in the right place and has an attractive outline. Unfortunately today his lack of coat let him down. Sound in movement.

2. Osman’s FLEURFIELD BENJAMIN BUTTON WITH MARISSOLO. Lots to like about this o/w dog. He has a masculine head, neck of good length, straight forelegs with good bone. Ribs well sprung. I just preferred the more positive movement of 1.

His forelegs are straight and firm, tight feet with well arched toes. He has a deep chest and has good angles. He moved with drive on strong hindquarters. RBOB

2. Wilcox’s HARVESTSLADE FIRE AND ICE THROUGH MERYNJEN JW. Balanced o/w dog with masculine head, muscular neck, long well laid shoulders, sound mover holding his topline. Preferred the tight feet of 1.

She has strong muscular shoulders, straight well boned forelegs, deep chest with well sprung ribs. Her hindquarters are well developed with well bent stifles and straight hocks. Moved soundly with drive. BOB

She has a feminine head with gentle expression, straight front with good bone, a deep chest and well sprung ribs carried well back. On strong well developed hindquarters she moved with effortless drive keeping her topline level. RBOB

2. Wareham and Dunstan’s MAURSETT MELWYN. Balanced well boned dog. Masculine head with good proportions. Chest deep, good spring of rib, level topline, powerful hindquarters. A dog of substance but no exaggerations. Sound mover.

1. S and J Kew’s LUJESA PAPERBACK WRITER WITH WYLYEVIEW. Impressive black dog puppy just coming up to 9 months. He has a lovely shape is well balanced and compact with everything in the right place and as it should be.

He looked good in profile but needs to settle when moving. RBOB.BP

2. McGindley and Reid’s WYNDSMOOR SEA OF ROMANCE. 7 month old bitch puppy. Pretty feminine head with gentle expression, clean throat, straight front, level topline. Needs to settle on the move.

She has a beautiful head with a gentle expression, clean neck, sloping well laid shoulders, well developed deep chest and good spring of rib. She moved well on strong well developed hindquarters.

1. Pearman’s WEIPOWA SHAKEN NOT STIRRED TO BRITMANS. This well made dog caught my eye as he entered the ring. He has quality and a good clean outline and is so balanced. His head is masculine but not overdone. He has a keen intelligent expression. Neck is clean and moderately long leading to well laid shoulders. He has straight forelegs, plenty of depth to chest, good spring of rib and moderate tuck up. He covered the ground effortlessly keeping his topline level. BOB. G4

2. R and G Hillen’s WEIPOWA LICENSE TO THRILL. Litter sister to class winner and so very similar to her brother. She has a lovely shape and an attractive profile. Remarks are the same as for her brother. Just felt that her brother gave that little bit more today. RBOB.

She has a feminine head and an alert and intelligent expression. Her neck is of good length strongly set into powerful shoulders, barrel shaped ribs, chest deep with well boned straight forelegs. Topline is level and she moved sound and true on powerful well constructed hindquarters. Gorgeous coat of liver ringlets. Lovely bitch. Best AVNSC. G2

She has good spring of rib, well rounded hindquarters and good turn of stifle which enabled her to move soundly and with drive. Well presented.

2. Mr W G and Mrs A C Needs’ COVARNEY PACO RABANNE AT STOURFORD. Irish Setter. Handsome 8 year old dog with well proportioned head, dark eye and well set on ears. His neck is of moderate length, chest is deep with well sprung ribs. His forelegs are straight and are well off for bone. He has wide, powerful hindquarters with well bent stifles and straight well let down hocks. A stylish and sound mover.
