Flatcoated Retrievers

Judge: Andrew Wilson

Thank you to the hard working Officers and committee of Newmarket and District Canine Society for inviting me to judge Flatcoated Retrievers at their Premier Open Show and for your kind hospitality. A well run show with a very friendly and sporting atmosphere around all of the good sized rings. Thank you also to Edward Eddery for stewarding for me. Thank you also to the exhibitors for entering their dogs under me.

Class 41 Puppy

No Entries

Class 42 Special Yearling (4, 2 abs)

2 different bitches at differing stages of their development but both showing good breed type. Preferred the more positive movement of the class winner

1ST HOEDUN DOES IT MATTER (Mr P Dunnett)

12 month old Black bitch with a pleasing one piece moulded head and a kind feminine expression. Scissor bite, dark almond shaped eye and neat, low set ears. Good reach of neck. Good front assembly with a well laid back shoulder and well developed sternum. Straight front legs and neat feet. Adequate spring of rib for her age and a short loin. Would prefer more bend of stifle. Still at the ‘leggy’ stage she moved soundly around the ring with reach and drive holding a level topline and tail carriage. Reserve Best Of Breed

2ND HOPEVALLEY MORNING MINUET JW (Mrs D R Markillie)

17 month old black bitch. More mature in appearance and with more coat she is slightly longer cast than the class winner. She also has a moulded one piece head, with a lovely soft expression, neat, low set ears and a dark eye. Scissor bite. Good front assembly with a deep chest and pronounced sternum. Good reach of neck into well laid back shoulder. Good bone, neat, tight front feet. Short loin with good angulation to her hindquarters. Carrying a bit too much weight over the shoulder and along her back and loin which detracts from the overall picture. Moved positively maintaining her topline and tailset.

Class 43 Limit (4, 3 abs)

1ST MADDOUSE DIMONDS R’FOREVER (Mrs J A McQuade)

2 year old Black bitch of correct size. Typical feminine head with good length to her muzzle. Soft, kind expression. Dark, almond shaped eye. Scissor bite. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Good front angulation with a well developed sternum and deep chest, Good bone. Neat, tight front feet. Well sprung ribs into a short, square loin. Moderate turn of stifle and well muscled rear quarters for her age. She presents a balanced profile when stood, On the move and once settled she moved well maintaining a level topline and correct tail-set. Presented with a lovely shining coat. In the challenge she was the best mover out of the three class winners. Pleased to award her Best of Breed and was later shortlisted in the Gundog Group. Well done.

Class 44 Open (5, 4 abs)

1ST GEMSWIN RIVER OF DREAMS (Mrs J A McQuade)

4 year old black medium sized bitch. One piece head, dark almond shaped eye and sweet, soft, feminine expression. Scissor bite. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulder. Well developed sternum but would prefer a slightly longer upper arm. Good bone and neat front feet, Good rear angulation. Again another bitch that is carrying a bit too much weight. Moved OK
