North Of Scotland Sheepdog Club

Breed: Collie (Rough)

I’d like to extend my thanks to all the hard-working committee for such a welcoming show and how can I forget the fantastic food! Special thank you to my stewards for keeping the ring in order and ensuring the day ran smoothly. Overall pleased with my main winners and thank you for all exhibits who entered under me. However, I was overall a little disappointed in the cleanliness in a lot of the exhibit’s teeth with the rough collies, while I understand grooming can take longer in Roughs than other shorter-coated breeds, this is no excuse for poor oral hygiene.

Class 34 Minor Puppy

Class 35 Puppy (2 entries, 0 absent)

1st. Mrs L Yule’s Ingledene Shades of Gold – 11month old dog showing potential for the future. Correctly proportioned head, clean throughout, however for me, I would prefer a tad more stop and more oblique eye. Strong underjaw, when using his ears he showed the most pleasing ear carriage. Lovely outline and correct angulation in both front and rear, correct length of neck, firm top line which continued when on the move. Moved well for a youngster with nice forward reach and rear drive, however a little too proud of his tail. Well presented. BPIB

2nd . Mcrobbie, Ms D & S Dalchow Stiosan’s Ray of Sunshine – 9 month old Blue merle bitch, lacked the confidence and handling of 1. Very feminine girl with the most expressive almond shaped eyes, unfortunately not wanting to use her ears today. Head blunt wedge shaped as the standard calls for. Clean and correct scissor bite, Good underjaw. Well-boned throughout. Well set tail with correct carriage on the move however needs to tighten up on movement, but this should come with time given her young age. Well presented.

1st. Mitchell & Jordan, Mrs M, Mr D G Avonfair Aloysius JW – A lot to love about the 2 ½ year old male. To start, groomed to perfection, not a single hair out of place, a real credit to the owner. A flashy boy with a very pleasing head and expression, with correctly placed and tipped ears which he used non-stop! Quite the show man. Well laid shoulders, good length of back with slight rise over the loins and correct front and rear angulation. Hocks well let down, Tail of correct length. Moved ok, a little naughty with his tail on the move.

2nd Mrs W Brodie Shanaburn Dark Knight . 23 month old tri colour male of lovely quality, another very expression boy, correct stop , and clean head throughout. Ears were small, used correctly and perfectly set. Most pleasing outline with a powerful well-arched neck. Another correctly angulated both front and rear. A little unsettled on the move likely due to the floor surface.

3rd Miss C Shorten Thistlewings andromeda at Bracoisla

4th Mr T Crawford’s Thistlewing fire dancer at Bryany

Class 40. Open dog (2 entries, 0 absent)

1st Mrs W Brodie Shanaburn Country Road. 4 year old sable male of a deep rich colour, another beautifully presented from this kennel with a soft yet intelligent expression. Good underjaw. Well laid shoulders. Correct angulation front and rear and well-muscled thighs.

2nd Mr T Crawford Thistlewing fire dancer at Bryany. 4 year old. Nice, neat ears when alert, and a pleasing well arched neck adding to his lovely outline. Moved ok

Class 41. Post graduate bitch (3 entries, 0 absent)

1st L Watt’s Culbrae Charmed Again. 2 year old golden sable, loved this girls expression, feminine. Nice clean wedged head, nice ear and ear placement, with correct dark brown almond eyes. A shapely lady who was a little out of coat today but this just showed she had nothing to hide. Balanced throughout. Moved easily around the ring with meaning.

2nd Miss C Shorten’s Beldones dancing in the dark at Bracoisla. Another 2 year old girl this time a tri. Another with plenty to like, lovely correctly placed stop and pleasing head, however lacked the confidence seen from 1, also a tad out of coat, but moved well in the class.

3rd Miss J Barr’s Roughrigg Ragnfid. A lovely sable, but was unfortunately very unsettled in the ring today and on the move.

Class 42. Limit Bitch (3 entries, 2 absent)

1st Mrs W Brodie’s Shanaburn Midnight Kisses. Tri-colour bitch, a little on the heavy side for me personally, but what a pleasing head, very proportionate, nice neat ears. Correct clean scissor bite, Moved around the ring well.

Class 43. Open Bitch (3 entries, 2 absent)

1st Mr S Proctor’s Opernball at intermittent lake. A blue merle bitch just coming back into coat, while I do prefer a tad more stop, still a well-balanced head. Fantastic shape and well-arched neck. Very alert and ready to please her handler. A flew around the ring with meaning and drive, giving her the edge for BB.

Class 44. Veteran. (4 entries, 3 absent)

1st L Watt’s Culbrae Red again. 8 year old sable and white male who stood alone today but was the star of the show for me. Correct clean scissor bite which is lovely to see in our older exhibits. Lovely head shape with the perfect amount of stop. Correctly placed neat ears, and almond eyes which helped give off that intelligent expressive look I was looking for. Flat skull, Good length of neck onto well laid shoulders. Well sprung ribs, and lovely coat of the correct texture. Good front and rear angulation, well-muscled which was supported by moving with good front reach and rear drive, leading me to believe this boy could do a day’s work which is what our standard calls for. Tail set correct in length and placement and maintained well on the move. BD, BOB, BVIB. well done.
