Manchester Dog Show Society - Saturday 17th January 2025

BOXERS

Delighted to be invited to judge at Manchester Dog Show Society with a good entry of 85. Thank you to my Stewards who kept the ring running smoothly and to all the exhibitors who entered and took my decisions in a sporting manner.

We have some high-quality males and females which results in some classes being down to splitting hairs. I do however worry about the state of many mouths with several far too undershot! I also question where quarters have gone. Several years ago, we had many that were over exaggerated we seem to have gone the opposite way with many being very straight although one or two not as straight as the handler presented - when you glance round the ring it is surprising what you can see when the dog is free-standing. Very pleased with my line-ups and final cuts in both sexes.

It was really quite thrilling to watch the groups and see my best of breed pulled into the final 10 and then be awarded Group 4 and my puppy shortlisted to the final seven in very good company.

Class 1441 SBD (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 4228 LORD, Mr James & ROBERTS, Mr Gethin Ygogarth Space Oddity
Brindle & White stocky male who has a strong head, evident chin, good stop with a cheeky expression. Hammy quarters and strong topline, he moved round the ring well for his handler.
2nd: 4190 CATLING, Miss Annette Lottalove Nordic Gypsy King
Lighter brindle who in profile just not as masculine as winner. He has a strong topline, good quarters, strong hocks and good cat-like feet.

Class 1442 MPD (5 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 4183 BROUGH, Mrs L & BROUGH, Mr Gavin Limubox Up Yer Kilt
Very square compact brindle & white puppy of just 6 months. He has a beautiful head piece, evident chin, good stop and melting eyes. Lovely arched neck, strong topline and excellent quarters. As any youngster just needs time to bring everything together and will hopefully fulfil his promise.
2nd: 4197 ELSWORTH, Mr P & C B Elsworth Patrick Misstricks Dartagnan
A slightly lighter frame than the winner but has what I would call a lovely mushy face. Super chin, good stop and those melting eyes. Not as strong in quarters as the winner at the moment but again with time will come together, showed and moved well.

Class 1443 PD (5 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 4235 MAIR, Misses L & S Lorrosa Dizzy Rascal At Glenauld
A very exciting youngster who I know will make the top drawer early in his career - one I would definitely be very proud of if I had either bred, owned and/or was showing. He has superb bone and substance, in profile shows the correct picture, with a clean head, well-padded muzzle, stop and evident chin. Super chest, straight front, tight feet, curved neck into slightly sloping topline, excellent tail-set, super quarters and strong hocks. He moves around the ring with ease, great reach and drive. Trained as ever from this kennel to bring the most out of him and presented in beautiful condition. In my final 4 for the CC which I am sure will be a regular occurrence. Delighted to see him make the final 7 in a strong Puppy Group.
2nd: 4201 FAY-SMITH, Mrs L A Lorrosa Keeping It Real
Brindle & white male who has an overall lighter frame than the winner, he has a good chest, arched neck, good quarters, preferred the topline of my winner. Sadly moved a little erratically for his handler today.
3rd: 4239 MCCARTHY, Mr D & GETHING, MR S Jeddhi Oh Danny Boy

Class 1444 JD (2 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 4241 PAYNE, Mrs Amanda Willow Eye Of The Tiger
Red & White male who is quite the picture in profile; beautiful glossy tight coat, slightly sloping topline, good quarters, ample chest, straight front and tight cat-like feet. He has a clean head, a little longer in nose and has a real melting soft expression. He moved well when settled but I feel did take advantage of his loose lead when he could which resulted in some pacing.

Class 1445 YD (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 4189 CARTER, Miss & Miss S & S Ch Farvalley Major Luke At Susancar
Brindle & White male who is a character. In full concentration mode he has a super profile, prominent chest, straight front, crested neck, slightly sloping topline, hammy quarters and good feet. He has a good dark eye with an absolute look of mischief, evident chin and a well-padded muzzle just on a stronger head than I would prefer. Movement ok when he behaves.

Class 1446 PGD (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 4192 CHELL, Miss Sally Jimbren Elite Legacy At Ludic
A youngster for this class and ultimately this dog just needs more time, everything is there just not ready yet. He is well put together with a strong topline, good quarters, chest and feet. He has a pleasing head with an evident stop and chin and the eyes just reminded me of looking into the eyes of his grandfather. Moved a little unsteadily but soon got himself together. Pulled into my final 4 but just felt he needed more maturity – his time will come, I am sure.
2nd: 4175 BEE, Mrs M Beeann Big Story
Another brindle & white who is again well put together boy with many of the same attributes as first. Preferred the movement of my winner and would like a little more to his overall frame.

Class 1447 LD (10 Entries) Abs: 2
1st: 4248 SEENEY, Mrs Marion Maranseen Youbetcha
Having awarded this dog’s sire the RCC last time I judged he definitely has the same qualities and more. He is very stylish and today showed off everything there was to see. He has a very typical head, with good lip placement, a kind eye and a super expression. Lovely arched neck into well laid shoulders and excellent catlike feet. Firm topline and a strong back end. On the move he covered the ground easily and loved every moment. In the challenge he continued to perform like a real showman and I had no hesitation in awarding him the CC, which I didn’t appreciate until much later that it was indeed his crowning CC. Delighted!
2nd: 4214 JOHNSON, Mrs C & PYNEGAR, Mrs Fearn Sashbob Never Would I Ever From Berwynfa JW
Unlucky to meet the winner today, this dog shows his heart out and to be honest I was not expecting to like his qualities as much as I did. He has many similar attributes to my winner just preferred the overall head of first. Super profile, arched neck, strong topline and hammy quarters, he moves with drive and purpose. Sometimes a dog comes into the ring and just says that is mine! On calling this dog back into the ring to challenge for the Reserve CC he shone and I could not deny him the award.

1st: 4230 MAIR, Misses L & S Ch Macbarra Kickin Up A Storm At Glenauld JW
Having judged this dog before as a youngster he has only improved. Stylish, tall upstanding elegant golden brindle & white who is all male, with plenty of bone and substance, has a good forechest and good front. He is well padded on his head with a cheeky expression, good stop and dark eyes. Moved with ease around the ring and I really did split hairs when it came to the final green cards to which this boy was clearly in my final four.
2nd: 4206 HARE & THE LATE HARE, Mr S & Mrs B Ch Jimbren The Irishman
One of my surprises today but you cannot deny the elegance this boy has. In profile he ticks all the boxes; elegant, great forechest, straight front, tight feet, arched neck, slightly sloping top-line with a tight, shiny coat, just preferred the overall head piece and movement of my winner.

1st: 4180 BOLE, Mrs L Harvlin Hot Toddy
At nearly 9 years young, this brindle & white boy certainly aims to please. What delighted me was how he still had some beautiful big teeth - more than several younger entrants. His head is a tad overdone for me but compensates with his enthusiasm. He shows a good profile with hammy quarters and a strong topline. Moved well - a real credit to his owner and breeder.

Class 1450 SBB (4 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 4224 LAW, Mrs Michelle Shellark Handball Hattie
Very smart golden brindle & white bitch who does paint a good picture. She stands four-square, showing off her forechest, super cat-like feet, straight front, strong topline and good quarters. She has a pleasing head, well-padded muzzle and a kind expression. She moved and showed very well for her handler, delighted for her to be my Best Special Beginner in Breed.
2nd: 4205 GRAY, Mr Paul Andrew Alot Of Hot Commotion At Rizzlebox
Darker brindle & white bitch who has a good compact outline, straight front and hammy quarters. She has a pretty head, evident chin and good eye. Sadly, she was too focussed on her bait today to pay any attention to her handler.

1st: 4243 PAYNE, Mrs Amanda Willow Take My Breath Away
A very raw but nevertheless beautiful 6-month puppy, dark brindle & white with a silky-smooth coat. Later found out her dam so there is no surprise to her being extremely promising. For her age she was very much-together, stunning in profile with oodles of elegance. Arched neck into a flowing topline and excellent tail set. Her head is finer, to be expected at this age with an evident chin and a padded muzzle. She needs time to get everything together but I am sure time will be very kind to her. A very promising youngster.
2nd: 4184 BROUGH, Mrs L & BROUGH, Mr Gavin Limubox Thistle Du
A light red & white who for her young age, has a well-defined head, evident stop, well-padded muzzle and a good expression. Her body not just as together as the winner but again in time should develop. Moved ok.

1st: 4225 LAY, Mr Mrs Steve And Linda Lottalove Flower Queen For Swiftwood
This was in interesting class, all the same age but all so very different. The winner was a nicely put together bitch who moved the best in the class. She has a pretty head with a kind eye. Moved well but lacked a little ring confidence that would improve the overall picture.
2nd: 4223 KUECH, Mrs S Mellhawk Coachella For Boese
Golden brindle & white cobby bitch. Did look a little overcome by the environment today, however when relaxed she dropped into her quarters and she then showed an overall good profile. Moved ok.

1st: 4187 BROWN & HUTCHINGS, Miss & Mr J & T Winuwuk Firecracker
Another beautiful dark brindle & white girl I looked forward to judging, she did not disappoint. Trained impeccably and shows a picture when stacked. Slightly longer cast, straight front, excellent cat-like feet, she has a lovely crested neck, with a super topline and good quarters. She moved easily around the ring. This girl was in my final 4 and I would say in another 6-12 months would probably have gone further, for me just needs a little more time to mature.
2nd: 4238 MCCARTHY, Mr D & GETHING, MR S Boxania Don't Blame Me At Jeddhi
Golden brindle & white cobby bitch. She has the most beautiful head piece and a melting expression with a well-padded muzzle, defined stop and evident chin. Good front and forechest, strong topline and hammy quarters. Just preferred the overall elegance of my winner.

1st: 4245 PEARCE, Mr G & FRANCIS, Mr D Ch Longsdale Crazy For You
Another tough class of three quality bitches. This girl is stunning in her profile and trained to perfection. There is little to fault as a dog around the breed standard; very pretty head, evident chin, melting eyes, well-padded muzzle, arched neck, good shoulders, slightly sloping topline, hammy quarters, strong hocks and moved precisely. In my final 4 and delighted to award her the Reserve CC.
2nd: 4237 MCCARTHY, Mr D & GETHING, MR S Lorrosa My Heads Been Turned To Jeddhi
Another quality bitch from this kennel. Again, a little cobbier than my winner but once again has a beautiful head piece. Well-padded muzzle, evident chin, good stop and beautiful dark eyes. Good topline, straight front, evident chest and strong quarters. Unlucky to be in the same class as the winner.
3rd: 4257 WOODS, Mr K Arkeney Geneva

Class 1455 PGB (8 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 4198 FAY-SMITH, Mrs L A Lorrosa Senorita
Yet another class with oodles of quality. Darker brindle & white bitch with a very pretty head, evident chin, good stop and a mischievous eye, Compact square, arched neck with a super strong slightly loping topline. Her cheeky character carried into her movement, pushing her handler at every opportunity but you could still see what you needed to see. Nothing wrong with some ring attitude!
2nd: 4249 SEENEY, Mrs Marion Maranseen Serendipidy
Another quality bitch who has a lot of similar attributes to my winner. Elegant in profile, good front, arched neck, good topline and quarters. Her head had more work, evident chin and a kind eye. Moved well around the ring. These two could easily swap places on different days.

Another bitch I have judged and liked before, she is overall very feminine with good quarters, forechest, topline, excellent feet and good tail carriage. She has a pretty head with an evident chin and a lovely dark eye.
2nd: 4186 BROWN & HUTCHINGS, Miss & Mr J & T Winuwuk Ghostly Affair
Golden brindle & white bitch with a beautiful head piece. Evident chin, well-padded muzzle and a kind eye. Moved well and looks the part in profile with her square profile, straight front and strong topline, just preferred the overall elegance of my winner.

A class I had been looking forward to but also with a certain amount of dread knowing how much quality the class would contain. On hoping that two in particular would be present that had showed under me before; one having gained the Reserve CC on the day and the other winning a younger class and being in my final five - this was always going to be a very tough class. On my first look at all the exhibits and seeing one was on absolute top form I knew she would be hard to beat. Brindle & White bitch who is just stunning. She has matured like a very good fine wine, oozing both show quality and ring presence. It is very clear to see she enjoys every second of being in the ring and is in absolute harmony with her handler aiming to please every second. She is so correct, from every angle she stands four-square. Excellent forechest, straight front on excellent feet, slightly sloping topline, excellent quarters, strong hocks all used to move around the ring with the greatest of ease. She knows exactly where to go without being told! Her head is so feminine with beautiful dark expressive eyes, she is simply a dream girl and so worthy of every award she has won to which I am sure there will be plenty more still to come. Having awarded her the reserve last time this was an easy CC followed by Best of Breed and to my delight Working Group 4. I have to add on currently listening to Tim’s seminar for our breed, the first line of the Breed Standard Great nobility, smooth coated, medium sized, square build, strong bone and evident, well-developed muscles is what this bitch is.
2nd: 4194 DRINKWATER, Mrs Susan Sulez Teaser
My second is the bitch who was also in my final 5 last time I judged and a bitch I have always admired - she was just unlucky to meet the winner in such top form today. She is well put together in profile, strong topline, evident forechest, straight front on good feet, arched neck, good shoulders and hammy quarters. She has a heavier head than the winner yet still feminine, with a well-padded muzzle, evident stop and a super dark eye. She moved really well round the ring. She is a beautiful girl and I am sure she will take her crown soon.
