The Midland Chihuahua Club Championship Show (Smoothcoat)
12 April 2026
Many thanks to the Officers and Committee for the kind invitation to judge at a show that holds so many wonderful memories of days gone by. It was a pleasure to return as a judge, and to be part of such a well-run and welcoming show. I was delighted with an entry of 84, with only 6 absentees, which provided depth of quality and made for strong competition.
My excellent Steward, Steve Rooney, ensured the ring ran smoothly and efficiently, keeping everything flowing with ease. As always, I thoroughly enjoyed his company—particularly the good-natured banter, which added to an already enjoyable day.
Minor Puppy Dog 6
1. Daly’s Lozmarchi Macs A Million, A very smart baby, 6 months. Well made overall and of a good size for his age. His head is correct, with the desired large, round eyes and a well-defined stop. Muzzle of correct length. Large ears well set on, which he uses well at all times. He carries himself confidently, particularly on the move, where he appears smart, happy, and self-assured.
2. Fairbairn’s Tidus Juno, 6 months. I admired his shape and overall balance. He has an appealing head, with beautifully set dark eyes giving the desired expression, and a good apple dome. Lovely, well-shaped ears, correctly placed and used to advantage. Well off for neck, with well-laid shoulders and a neat front. Topline just needs to settle. Presented in excellent coat and condition.
3. Langford’s Boetandales Little Devil.
Puppy Dog 4
1. Slavinec’s Charonchi Lucky Luciano, 10 months.
A very promising youngster whom I considered the most complete exhibit in this competitive class. Well-balanced outline, with nothing exaggerated. His head is particularly appealing, displaying correct breed type, with good proportions and expression. He is well bodied for his age and holds a firm, secure topline both standing and on the move. Well laid shoulders. His tail is correctly set and carried, complementing his overall outline. Presented in excellent coat and condition. On the move, he is positive, free-flowing, and notably accurate, covering the ground with confidence and purpose. A youngster of great promise with a bright future ahead. Delighted to award him, BPD BPIB & later awarded BPIS.
2. Gentle’s Arkoschi Cal Me Mr Farenheit. 10 months. Another very promising youngster with much to admire. He presents a well-balanced outline and gives a pleasing overall impression. His head is appealing, with lovely eyes and expression. Ears are large, flaring, and well used, contributing to his alert expression. He is well constructed throughout, with very good angulations; well bodied for age, with a good depth of chest. I would prefer a better tail carriage. Presented in excellent coat and condition. Confident and free-flowing on the move, covering the ground with ease. A smart young dog.
3. Hartley & Fahey’s Zoomera Stormbreaker.
Junior Dog 2
1. Walton’s Perimeade’s Midnight Dream. 1 ½ years old. B/T. Attractive masculine head with lean cheeks giving a typical expression. His eyes are well set, giving a desired soft look. Ears well set on. Nicely constructed, with good angulation and a firm topline. Body is well developed, with sufficient depth for age. On the move, he is swift, free and decidedly accurate, which gave him the edge over 2.
2. Magri’s Monicachi Money Man at Rozamie. 1 ½ years old. Another that impressed. His well shaped head gives a pleasing expression, enhanced by lovely eyes. Secure topline. His proportions and overall size are very pleasing. Presented in a super coat of excellent quality. In the final go-around, his movement became slightly untidy, which just cost him the top spot on the day. Nonetheless, this was a very close decision between two nice young dogs.
Novice Dog 3
1. Slavinec’s Charonchi Cuban Linx. 15 months. A super gold and white coat presented in excellent condition. Of a pleasing size for age. Masculine dainty and compact, has sound proportions throughout. Typical apple dome skull, with definite stop and appealing round, dark eyes. Muzzle of moderate length, complemented by excellent dentition. Shown to advantage, he carries strong pigment and is in excellent coat and condition, with a well-set tail completing the picture. For absolute balance, he could be slightly shorter coupled. Moved confidently around the ring; front to settle as he matures.
2. Knight’s Okeanid Ambre Solaire At Aritito. 3 years. Larger than 1. A sound, true mover who covers the ground with ease and efficiency. The head is pleasing overall, though it could benefit from a little more refinement to enhance expression. Dentition is excellent and should be commended. Secure topline, which remains steady in motion; correct tail set. Deep chest; good overall balance and substance. Pigmentation is strong, and well set ears add to the alert appearance.
3. Lovric’s Lovchi Golden Charmer.
Graduate Dog 4,1
A challenging class to judge.
1. Crew’s Anadeia Nallion At Dreamcrews. 2 years. An appealing, well-balanced cream-coated dog with a nicely textured coat. His head is of good proportions, dark enough pigmentation. Correct ear shape and set. Appealing eyes and a good mouth. A tad short in muzzle. Well-set sickle tail. Maintains a firm topline. Displays impressive movement, driven by nicely angulated hindquarters with well let-down hocks which gave him to edge over 2.
2. Gentle’s Arkoschi Star Gazer, 19 months. Another really impressive youngster who scores well for size. Not quite as spirited as 1. Very typical head, with flared ears and super-large, dark, round, attractive eyes. Good dentition. Level topline and high-set tail. Well-angulated hindquarters, but in a hair-splitting decision, I just preferred the front movement of 1. Presented in great condition, with a wonderful coat. Close call.
3. Lynch’s Arkoschi Rite Here Rite Now At Garnox.
Post Graduate Dog 3
1. Jones’s Pepeetol Rich Tea. 3 years. I loved his size and overall balanced shape. He has an impressive head with a well-rounded domed skull, and large, dark, round eyes set perfectly. Correct scissor bite. Compact in body, with well-sprung ribs and good depth of chest. Impressive sickle-shaped tail, set high and carried perfectly at all times. Front legs are straight. Deep chest. Muscular hindquarters with correct bend of stifle and low set hocks. Moved with freedom both fore and aft, and in profile. Totally true and honest on the move, presenting a stunning outline. His glorious coat shines, being of an appealing colour that truly reflects his ‘Rich Tea’ name. His handler is quiet, unassuming and in harmony with him but nothing is over-exuberant, so there is a need to look beyond this to fully appreciate this beautiful dog of immense quality and true breed type. I could not deny awarding him the RCC, which was clearly well appreciated by the ringside.
2. Humphrey’s Amarantos Theo. 3 years and a son of the famous Ch Amarantos Tobin. Scores in head qualities having large appealing dark eyes, good skull, well set ears. Plenty of fore chest with a good rib cage. Well ribbed and holds a secure topline. A tad longer cast than 1. Excellent tail carriage. In good coat of lovely texture. Spirited and moved well.
3. Heap & Palmers Rudy Ruby.
Limit Dog 8
1. Hartley & Fahey’s Zoomeera Home and Dry JW, 2 years. Pleasing red coat and good dark pigment. Balanced head with large, expressive eyes and a well-defined stop. Good length of neck, clean and well set. Ears correctly placed and of good size. Correct dentition. Well bodied with a firm, level topline. Moved out confidently with positive, purposeful action. Considered for higher honours; however, in the challenge his forehand became slightly unsettled.
2. Alderxena Ruler of The Kingdom JW. 2 ½ years. Appealing and well-balanced. Small, masculine and dainty. He has a refined head, rounded dome skull, and jet black pigment. Dark, large expressive eyes give a gentle expression. Flaring ears. Ample neck flowing smoothly into well-laid shoulders. Well bodied. Topline firm. Clean front; OK rear movement. Lovely sickle tail. Close call.

A lovely class to judge and containing a full ring of quality dogs.
1. Lehtinen-Conchetti’s Misty Meadow’s Red Bull (ITA). An outstanding representative of the breed, presenting a picture of balance, breed type, and ring presence which immediately commands attention. Masculine, he combines elegance, soundness, and those identifiable breed-specific requirements. Classic apple dome skull of correct proportions, with well-set ears. Eyes are large, dark, and expressive; excellent pigment and correct dentition all contribute to his most attractive, masculine headpiece. Neck is of good length, slightly arched, flowing cleanly into well-laid shoulders. Forequarters are correct and true, with fine yet adequate bone. Body is compact and well ribbed, with a firm topline. His hindquarters are noteworthy, being correctly angulated, producing drive and stability. Proud, confident, and assured on the move. Sickle-shaped tail is carried as required. Presentation and coat exemplary. Temperament is confident, composed, and assured—he shows himself with style and charisma. Already a worthy International winner and a Chihuahua of exceptional merit. CC and Best of Breed.
2. Alexender’s Alderxena Pocket Rocket. 2 ½ years. Aptly named! I first judged him as a minor puppy and he has lived up to expectations. Now, as an adult, he is of the preferred size. He has a stunning head with beautiful dark eyes, all portraying a saucy expression. Excellent dentition. Impressive pigmentation and condition. His body is well ribbed with a short, strong loin. Tail carriage is acceptable. On the move, he is decidedly positive and aristocratic in deportment, but felt he perhaps moves a tad too fast to maintain complete accuracy. Undoubtedly, champion quality.
