Midland Counties Canine Society 25/10/2026 Best in Show I send my sincere thanks to the Officers and Committee for the invitation to judge Best in Show at the 2026 Championship Show. Despite some changes at the helm, the show ran as smoothly as ever and there was a welcoming, happy atmosphere. The group judges sent me a good selection of quality dogs to choose from; some I had judged before and some were new to me. However, it was two of the dogs I had admired in the past who would take the top spots. Best in Show was the Poodle (Toy), Tom Isherwood and Jason Lynn’s Ch Dream High Kai Kennel Afterglow Adrenaline. A really beautiful, elegant bitch. Good length of head with some chiselling, good leather and well-shaped, dark eyes. Excellent forehand with well-laid shoulders and good forechest. She is short coupled and well ribbed with a good tailset and strong, hindquarters. Her footfall is exemplary. As one would expect from this kennel she was presented to perfection and her temperament is absolutely typical of the breed. For Reserve Best in Show I chose Mrs Kari Wilberg’s, Fox Terrier (Smooth), Ch Kanix Quickstep. She is a favourite of mine. I have judged her several times in the past and she pushed the gorgeous Poodle all the way today. Beautifully balanced and oozing breed type, her clever handler shows her on a relatively loose lead and she never puts a foot wrong. Short-backed and she stands over a good amount of ground. Moved really well with a decisive driving action. Tom Mather
