RICHMOND CHAMPIONSHIP DOG SHOW

My sincere go to the Officers and Committee of Richmond for the opportunity to judge these two groups. I was spoilt for choice as the breed judges had sent forward some top-class dogs.

Utility Group

My winner was the remarkable Toy Poodle, Tom Isherwood and Jason Lynn’s Ch Dream High Kai Kennel Afterglow Adrenaline. Elegance personified with the most lovely head and expression, dark, sparkling eyes, some chin and good leathers. She has some breadth and depth of chest and a short, well-ribbed body. Good hind angulation and her harsh coat was presented to perfection. She moved with a light easy action. I was delighted to see her win BIS under Dr. James, congratulations.

In second place was Hall’s Lhasa Apso, Ch Shenedene Copy And Paste JW. Beautifully balanced and a lovely size. Like the Poodle, she is presented to perfection but underneath the heavy coat is a well-made, study bitch. Good head proportions with dark, oval eyes. Nicely arched neck and excellent forehand. Well ribbed with a short, strong loin. Sound and free moving.

3rd was Parkinson and Dunhill-Hall’s Eurasier, Kaydanmy Fuel To The Fire. I have judged him in the past and admired him. Pleasing wedge shaped head with well placed eyes and excellent pigmentation. Strong, well-ribbed body. Moved out really well. He should win lots of admirers for the breed.

Completing the quartet was the Tibetan Terrier, It World Ch Waterley Heart Breaker JW. A handsome, eye-catching dog who is very satisfying to handle Good head proportions; well pigmented, good sized eyes. Strong, well-made body with good length of rib. Typical feet. Shown in excellent coat and condition. Displayed both reach and drive on the move.

Additionally, I also shortlisted the French Bulldog, Japanese Shiba Inu, Miniature Schnauzer and the Shih Tzu.

Pastoral Group

For the top spot I chose Akester & Wiltshire’s Border Collie, Sh Ch Thwaitlake Buzzman. Exactly 12 months ago I awarded him the Group at Darlington and I checked my records to see what I said about him then ….. “Glamorous yet workmanlike and he is beautifully made. Very pleasing head and keen, expression. Strong, length neck and well laid shoulders. Good body and well-set tail. On the move he is hard to criticise as his action is sound, effortless and absolutely typical.” I don’t think I need to say anything else!

Group 2 was the Samoyed, She has the most lovely head and expression with good depth of pigmentation and a smiling expression. Well furred ears. Nicely balanced with good length of leg and an excellent forehand with very typical feet. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. She has a fluid, driving action and she was shown in excellent form and condition.

In third place was the Hungarian Puli, Cowley’s, Ch Kashbeluli There We Are Then Jw Shcex Osw. Shown in exceptionally good condition. Smallish skull, good pigmentation and large black nose. Good forehand. Well ribbed with some strength and breadth over the loins. Pleasing hind angulation and muscle tone. He has a light, free action on the move.

Group 4 was Angier and Stacey’s Belgian Shepherd Dog (Groenendael), Icon De Bruine Buck At Birkcross (Imp Nld) Shcex. I was very impressed with this handsome dog, hard to believe that he is 9 years old. Balanced head with an intelligent expression. Confident and assured he has a nicely arched neck. Strong and masculine yet with some elegance and he did impress on the move.

Additionally, I also shortlisted the Rough Collie, Shetland Sheepdog and Welsh Corgi (Pembroke).
