BRACCO ITALIANO — BREED CRITIQUE It was a great pleasure to judge the Bracco Italiano at the Scottish Kennel Club I found a number of dogs and bitches with very good breed type and some excellent examples of the characteristic Bracco head, proportions, substance and movement. When judging the breed, I was looking for the qualities required of this powerful breed: a harmonious, muscular dog with clean lines, good substance and correct proportions, but without exaggeration. The Bracco should have a distinctive head, Movement for me is particularly important, with the breed requiring a stylish, extended and powerful trot which demonstrates its ability to work , I would like to see more strength in hocks . I was particularly pleased with the quality of the Open classes. There were several very good exhibits, and I found the final decisions in both dogs and bitches very close. DOGS CLASS — PUPPY DOG — 1 Entry 1st — BRACCHINI'S ABSOLUTE DRAMA — Miss L J Coghlan — BEST PUPPY A smart young dog with a lovely overall outline. He has a super side gait and shows good breed type. Nice head with the characteristic Bracco expression and good proportions. Good body strength and substance for his age. I would like to see more strength through the hocks and rear at this stage, but the strength of body is very pleasing. He has plenty of promise and I would expect him to develop and strengthen considerably with maturity. A very promising puppy and a worthy Best Puppy.should be made up easily. CLASS — POST GRADUATE DOG — 2 Entries, 1 Absent 1st — KELEVRA ASILO DEI CUCUL — Miss S & Mr K Rush & Duggan A dog with plenty to like and good breed qualities. Correct head with the characteristic divergent planes, which are such an important feature . I would like to see more confidence from him, as this would encourage a more positive and purposeful movement, greater confidence would allow him to show his good construction to better advantage. CLASS — OPEN DOG — 9 Entries, 4 Absent 1st — ELFRINDEW YANKEE DOODLE — Mrs M & Mrs A Dodd & Struthers-Lake — DOG CC A lovely young dog with excellent breed type. Super open side gait, with good bone and substance without losing the elegant, clean lines required of the breed. Strong behind and well angled, giving him the powerful rear drive that I was looking for His movement really demonstrates his construction, with good extension and an excellent side gait. A very pleasing overall package and a worthy Best Dog 2nd — OWLSPOINT LOADS OF TROUBLE AT HEBERHOUSE JW — Mrs V & Mr A Warburton — RESERVE DOG A moderate and correct dog who could perhaps be overlooked amongst the more spectacular exhibits, but he has so many lovely qualities. He is very nicely constructed and has an excellent head which is not overdone. Good overall balance and superb musculature. It takes him a stride or two to get into top gear, but once moving he shows good quality and purpose. A very sound and honest Bracco with much to admire, and a very worthy Reserve Dog. 3rd — BUSHWACKER DON JUAN JW — Mr A & Miss S Pipes & Groves A lovely boy with a super open gait. Good breed type and an excellent mover, demonstrating the extended, stylish action that is such an important part of the breed. BITCHES PUPPY BITCH — 2 Entries 1st — CALLAISCROFT AURORA STAR AT HOPEWOOD — Mrs L Westwood A super puppy, feminine but with good substance and plenty of breed character. Lots to like in her overall construction. Moved well with good power and promise. I would like to see more strength through the rear and a little more stability in front at this stage. With maturity and further development, I would expect these areas to improve. A very promising young bitch. 2nd — BRACCHINI'S BIT OF CRUMPET FOR FRAULYNZWAY — Mrs L & Miss H Russell A nice puppy, but not quite possessing the qualities of my winner today. She has a lovely head , pleasing proportions and strength of neck . She moved well with open side gait . POST GRADUATE BITCH — 2 Entries 1st — TEVERLARNI LUCKY STAR — Miss S & Ms L Smith A good quality bitch with pleasing breed type and a nice overall picture. Good divergent head planes , sloping long shoulder placement , deep chest and well ribbed Good balance and substance. 2nd — ELFRINDEW BYE BABY BUNTIN AT VIXENMOOR — Mrs R & Mr S Woodhouse A nice bitch with good head and expression, shoulders well laid back , topline good and held on move with good width to second thigh , not side gait of first today but time is on her side and she offers many qualities OPEN BITCH — 4 Entries 1st — GUNSYN SUPERCALA IN BRACKENMIST JW CW26 — Miss S & Mr A Mcandrew & Cooper — Best BITCH & BEST OF BREED I absolutely loved her. A very moderate and correct bitch, with nothing overdone. She has pleasing proportions throughout and gives the harmonious, powerful yet elegant picture that I was looking for. Excellent head with the correct divergent planes and a lovely expression. Good length of neck, good strength and substance, and a super topline which she held beautifully on the move. She has excellent body construction, with good rib development and strong, powerful quarters. Her rear construction came through particularly well into movement, and she has a super side gait with excellent extension and drive. For me, she combines the qualities of the breed exceptionally well without exaggeration. I was delighted to award her the best bitch and ultimately Best of Breed. 2nd — WITHAMFRIARY LUSH BLOSSOM AT HEBERHOUSE — Mrs V & Mr A Warburton — RESERVE Best BITCH Another moderate and very correct example of the breed. Such a well-constructed bitch, with a beautifully proportioned head and good breed expression. Excellent shoulder placement and good forechest. Correct topline and well-muscled rear quarters. She moved very well today and showed herself off to advantage. She has many of the qualities I look for in the Bracco and was a very close decision. A very worthy Reserve best Bitch 3rd — POLCEVERA'S S GENOVA (IMP ITA) — Mrs N Jackson A lovely bitch with good breed qualities and a pleasing overall picture. SPECIAL BEGINNER BITCH — 1 Entry 1st — ELFRINDEW BYE BABY BUNTIN AT VIXENMOOR — Mrs R & Mr S Woodhouse — BEST SPECIAL BEGINNER Repeat of 2nd in PG Tania Gardner Danwish
