Driffield Championship Dog Show

Thank you to all exhibits for graciously entering and accepting my decisions which at times was splitting hairs.

In my fiftieth year in this beautiful breed I have seen many changes and how the breed evolves. I find this is happening again with overseas dogs being brought into the country, not that this is a bad thing it can be beneficial but are we researching and do we know the backgrounds properly of this influx. I see some rather tall examples and little eyes. Some straight upper arms and straight stifles, a lot of cat feet only a few hare and only a few with feathers.Some carrying a little more weight than I like, weakening joints affecting movement, we are a must for strong joints, tendons and cartilage. We are a working breed capable of turning sharply herding back and forth, not that we do much of that now but would be nice to think they could. We need to be fit for function.Saying all that I was genuinely pleased with my overall winners and immensely proud to see my Best of Breed go Group 2, my puppy take Group 1, my Special Beginner Group 1 and the Veteran shortlisted.

 1st Jones and Kirkwood, Ch Imperial Kazhiya Jw. At nearly nine, in profile, construction and type, he gets better with age. In full coat his beautiful biscuit shade also deepens as he gets older . A well matured striking head on a good length of neck, flowing down to well angulated front giving the correct reach. Back still strong and holding on the move with that positive drive from behind. RCC

2nd Short, Zakaytia Angel Of Mine. An 11yr young man of substance but sadly today he was not interested so gave his handler a hard time. Take all that away he is of good type and construction. His ratio’s of qualities still shine through. Moved ok

MPD (1) Abs:0

1st Hopkins Navratilova, Dynar Sun King. 8ths and like the sun he stood alone and shone. A lovely type he was enjoying his day. Most components about him for his age correct. Correct ear placement and good eye shape, nice length of neck, quite balanced, moved well in front but needs with time to firm up in hocks, still a baby.

PD (1) Abs:0

1st Mann’s, Vandreem Imperial Linken. A different type to MPD, not quite in sync with his handler today and true to form he is starting to go into a junior era of change in most area’s.Saying that head properties good but eye size and shape could be better , height to length good. Front assembly correct giving him a nice reach. Good depth to chest and correct back angulation driving nicely away from me he was covering the ground well.

JD (1) Abs:0

1st Forster, Artsam Shining Future Hiro For Hakumichi, 17mths and doesn’t he know he is a junior. Likes to play his handler up and this makes control difficult. Handsome head with correct points and good scissor bite. Chest still maturing as it should and coat just coming through as well. Correct length to height would have liked better front and back angles to have given him more reach and drive, he stood on nicely shaped feet.

PGD (3) Abs:1

1st Webb &Bates, Angelicus Sam Diablo Guapo At Rosskaja, two handsome boys in this category and two different types. Displaying all the characters of a sammy, I am not going to stand still. Handsome in head with good pigmentation and correct bite. Proportions in alinement from front to back. Good bone throughout and correct texture to coat. Was more together in front than back upon moving.

2nd Haffenden, Novaskaya Yolo Lefay, Stood for his handler beautifully showing his correct proportions in length and height. Nice eye shape and enough width between ears with a correct scissor bite. Still maturing in many departments he will become a very nice specimen. I would like a little more of him and in the process of losing his coat did not help. Moved well.

LD (4) Abs:2

1st Rojowska, From Oslo With Snow White Touch Of The Sky To Arcticuno. This boy is maturing nicely, he is not flashy but displays a good old fashioned Samoyed of function. Handsome head with nice eye shape, scissor bite, mouth displaying good pigment, ears thick and well furred. Neck of good length to shoulder, angles from shoulder to elbow enough as displayed in front reach. Good tuck-up to well muscled hindquarters he drove nicely from behind.

2nd Richardson Wright, Santaviga Another Jedi. This young man I think was missing his mum or just did not like his surroundings. His young handler tried everything possible but he did not cooperate. Of good type and everything in the right places but assessment even on the move was not possible. Another day another story.

OD (5) Abs:2

1st Jebson & King, Ch Vandreem Imperial Ripasso JW. I last gave him a reserve ticket as a youngster now an adult, my thoughts on him then were right. He now gives all the males a run for their money and rightly so. Age improves Samoyeds if they have the right properties from the beginning. He did and all improved beautifully. It would be silly to preach the standard to him, he is lovely to put your hands over him assessing all of our points of the standard and there is no perfect dog but you hope to achieve as near as possible. To me on the day he fitted what I wanted so I could not deny him the CC and BOB and to top it all and make my day came away with group 2.

2nd Kosmane. Ch Rosnorske Royal Qui Gon At Glamyarn. At just over two years old he is still a baby competing with the likes of my first. This is what I like, a baby or should I say, a young teenager as this is what he is yet. Maturing at the right speed he has lots to come. Going over him he is a dream, my hands picked up his quality and being a handsome lad as well he will definitely shine. A little excitable today as just back from shedding his coat he was enjoying himself but moving well.

1st Fowler. Artsam Butterfly. Beautifully handled by this young man, this butterfly definitely shone. His young handler just needs help with getting the dogs attention on him but saying that that he did a sterling job. She herself is coming along nicely and gradually maturing into a young lady. Pretty head which it is when you have correct oblique shape of eye and ears of good shape and with enough width between them. Body shape and proportions good with enough depth to chest. Her angles front and back propel her around the ring at just the right speed with her young handler just keeping up. Will watch her with interest and she made me proud to clinch the Special Beginner Group with the older brother as handler. Well done.

VB (4) Abs:1

1st Collinson. Ch Nikara Secret Love By Norjack JW. Nine years (are they sure) she is absolutely the bees knees. There has only been in my judging lifetime, a few I can count on one hand that screams Samoyed. This young lady is one of them. It would be silly to preach the breed standard just going over her tells you what you want to know and then put it into perspective fit for function. Others have said all that. Watching her move is nigh perfection other breeders should be very jealous of this lady she was bred by one very astute and missed breeder. I could not Deny her the bitch ticket and over the moon to have made her our new bitch CC record holder. Someone in heaven will be ecstatic. BCC

2nd Howlett, Tiksi Forget Me Not. Seven years young but today not quite in sync with her handler. She has the most beautiful shape feet with lovely feathers that some of us would die for. Another bitch of correct size she has nice head qualities good all round shape, she was in full coat which never helps when holding a little weight. Moved ok.

3rd Vidak, Samnouska Spirit Of Dreams For Lacewood.

MPB (4 entries) Abs:1

1st Rojowska, Dynar Lady Slipper To Arcticuno. What a little poppet. All sisters in this class but for me she stood out. Super head leading to a lovely arched neck. Height to length ratio at this age fine and at this age still time to shoot up on leg a little. Just a baby she showed for her handler all the time like a professional and on moving, so fluid for a baby with just enough reach and drive. I was impressed. Again another proud moment, BP and PG1

2ND Willcock & Ryan, Dynar Temple Of Beauty. On assessing her I was told she had had a fright which I understood so careful hands on this baby. Again like her sister a pretty head, a tad taller, good strong straight front legs. Body developing at the right speed, nicely muscled but not too much for a youngster. Good reach in front, hind movement not quite as positive as her sister.

2ND Webb & Bates, Angelicus Chiquitta At Rosskaja. Splitting hairs with one and two I just preferred at this stage the movement of one. Pretty head with good eye shape, correct small and set well apart ears. Excellent black points, nice length of neck. Good shoulders of enough proportion to propel good reach of front. Length of back to loin good she was in good coat and had a beautiful correctly set and profusely coated tail.

1st Howlett, Artsam Bedazzled For Tiksi. When four sisters are in the same class I am afraid you have to distinguish between them where you would place them. Even though she was fifth in the class before she is still worthy of her first and I am sure under different judges places will change. Not quite as altogether as her siblings, she has plenty of time and with maturity will blossom. Pretty head qualities with correct bite, proudly arched neck, front and back angles good, was a little not quite with handler today. Moved ok.

1st Mann, Silbertips And All that Jazz JW. This bitch stands on lovely well feathered hare feet, one of the few. In smashing coat of the correct texture with my type of Samoyed head. Flat skull with ample space between the ears which were small and well furred. She has a correct scissor bite, lips and eyes well pigmented. In profile when standing four square displayed lovely front and back angulations. Good spring of rib with enough depth to chest. A bit disappointed today as her handler could just not get the best out of her denying her going further.

2nd Jebson, Vandreem Imperial Malari. Not the head of one but still a pretty girl with good black points and scissor bite. Neck flowed into good shoulders and still not quite two she has time to develop more in chest. Nice length of leg she has good forequarters displaying a nice reach to front. Back of enough length held well on the move, stifles of good angulation and she had good muscle all round. Coat of good quality, tail set correct and on moving quite fluid good forward reach and drive from behind.

1st Jones & Kirkwood, Vandreem Imperial Bellini. A very naughty young lady which I liked as it brought out the character of her. She frustrated her handler who worked tirelessly to show her to her best advantage. Head qualities have come on from a puppy and at four has matured into a pretty young lady. Good eye shape black lined, ears small and furred set well apart, black lips and smiling all the time showed correct scissor bite. Neck flowing into correct ratio of shoulder to chest to elbow and depth to chest with good spring of rib giving good heart room. Back strong into good tuck up and strong in loin. Her back quarters well muscled and strong displays a good angulation of stifle. Furred tail held correctly over her back. Coat nicely textured she stood on feathered hare feet and moved with enough reach and drive. RCC

2ND Willcock & Ryan, Ti Amo Boschi Vecchi For Dynar. Different type to one, in lovely full coat she displayed herself well. Good eye set, black points all there with well furred ears just a little too close but small. Would like a little more length to neck but good front shoulders, her chest of good depth and spring she was strong and correct in back length,loin a little short. Nice turn of stifle, well muscled thigh. She was in good coat of nice texture and displayed correct beautiful furred tail set correctly. Front movement enough reach needed more drive from behind.
