My grateful thanks go to the officers and committee of the Scottish Kennel Club for inviting me to judge at their double show. It is always a pleasure to judge at this show, which although a very busy show is run with absolute professionalism and good humour. Thank you also must go to my very efficient ring stewards who kept the ring running smartly all day with smiles, despite the early disruption of a fire alarm which held up judging for a while. Most of all I thank all the exhibitors who entrusted me with the evaluation of their dogs, and accepted my decisions with grace and sportsmanship. 

My first CC appointment in Griffon Bruxellois was an honour and I was fortunate to have some lovely examples of the breed to go over.

1ST 4484 - Adreeam Classic Rough (Mr R & Mrs J Potts) A ten month old Red Rough puppy of good size and correct proportions, cobby and square with a good topline. A lovely head shape and expression. Dark, round eyes with good rims. Very nice neat ears, high set. Well pigmented black nose with good nostrils. I would have preferred very slightly less undershot to his mouth, but this was not detrimental. Medium length of neck leads to well laid shoulders, good rib and firm topline. Well bodied and really coming into his own Nice harsh coat coming through. Moved out well. Best Puppy Dog unlucky to meet his sister in challenge for Best Puppy. 

2ND 4470 - Cyril Cloister Atison's Legacy avec Stormjac (Imp Cze) (Mrs J Conway) Ten month old Black Rough. Good size and in proportion with a good shoulder and body. Correct head, with good expression. Liked his turnup and neat lips. Very dark eyes, good nose with open nostrils. Medium neck and level top line. Very nice well sprung rib. Well muscled thigh. Good tail set. I preferred the movement of the first at this stage.

1ST 4468 - Cilleine Last Wicket for Sparlero JW (Mr A Barbi) A fourteen month old Red Rough. Square and cobby. Good harsh coat of a lovely rich colour. Correct in proportion, good head with pleasing expression. Dark round eye, well set ears. Good turnup. Decent muscle and nice round feet. Well set on Tail. Moved well and was attentive to the handler. Was happy to award them Best special beginner in breed.

1ST 4490 - Marquant Remember Me JW (Miss M & Miss F Swinge & Price)Twenty One Month old Red Rough. A lot to like about this boy, from his correct proportion to his beautiful head and lots in between. Classic head with typical expression. Dark eyes, well set nose with wide open nostrils, definite stop, neat lips and good turn up. He didn't miss a step. Square cobby body. Good Front assembly with good width of chest. Firm top line which he held on the move.Rich red rough coat with harsh, wiry feel.Good set on tail. Well conditioned and presented. Moved with drive. I was pleased to award him the Dog Challenge Certificate.

 2ND 4487 - Zilcan Kick Boxer (Mrs A Spurr) Twenty two month old Red Rough. Very good head with lovely neat ears set on high. Dark eyes and rims of good size and shape. Nice alert expression. Moderate neck, good lay of shoulder and sound front. Level back and short loin. Well set on tail. Not the body of one but this could develop. Neat feet and move ok.

1ST 4477 - Osthaen A Kind of Magic (G & P Mackay) Three year old Black and Tan Smooth. A very well put together dog who was giving his handler a hard time today but did enough to see him through to the Reserve Dog CC but I could see him challenging hard on a different day. He fit the profile for size and shape very well and has a really nice head. Typical Griffon expression with great pigment to nose and eye rims. Cobby and with a strong loin and well muscled rear assembly he moved with good drive. Maintaining his topline on the move. Nicely boned with well sprung ribs. 

2ND 4488 - Ch Balthazar Supersonic ShCEx (Miss M Swinge) Red Rough with a correct head and square body. Displaying all the characteristics you would want in a Griffon, lively and alert watching all his handler was doing. A worthy champion well bodied and well ribbed. Nicely arched neck, good shoulder and wide deep chest. Level back nice and short loin. Just preferred the movement of one today.

1ST 4489 - Ch Harpersband Case in Point at Balthazar JW VW (Imp Rus) (Miss M Swinge) Ten year old Red Rough Boy who belies his age. Lovely head with a real monkey like expression. Well placed ears. Dark eyes and nose. Neat lips and good turnup. Good front assembly matched by a well defined rear. Short back, well ribbed and deep chest. Good tail set and moved with purpose. Happy to declare him Best Veteran in Breed.

1ST 4469 - Adreeam Diamond in The Rough for Bellflows (Mrs G Blair) This 10 month old Red Rough Girl is my one to watch. She was presented very well in good body and condition. Very feminine. Typical Griffon head, lovely neat ears adding to the overall expression. Dark eyes with good pigmented dark rims. Well place black nose with good open nares. Correct turnup and chin. Beard starting to come. Medium neck, well sprung rib, deep chest and straight legs all made for a good front. Short level back and strong loin. Well set on and correctly carried tail. Lead to good hind quarters. Moved very well. She is as pretty as a picture. Very pleased to award her Best Puppy in Breed.

 2ND 4494 - Delightbull Viva La Vida (Miss L Wood) 9 month old Red Rough. A nice puppy who still needs to develop yet. She has a nice head with correct eye, nose and ear placements. Good turnup and chin. Well proportioned with a level top line which she held on the move. Square and cobby with good bone and short loin. Moved out and back well.

1ST 4493 - Delightbull Unstoppable (Miss L Wood) Nine month old Red Rough girl of a good shape and size who will benefit from a little more body as she matures. Pretty head with good pigment in eyes and rims. Correct nose placement with good nares. Level top line and decent sprung rib. Short loin and well set on tail. Moved out well. 

2ND 4481 - Stormjac Norse Pixie Magic (G & P Mackay) Black and Tan rough who was not at her best today unsettled by the hall. She is of a good size and correct square shape. Pretty head with good nose placement and turnup. Very dark eyes. Neat ears well set. Good neck. Well Ribbed and deep chest. Short back and loin. Level Top line. Moved ok.

1ST 4491 - Delightbull Come On Eileen (Miss L Wood) Two year old Red Rough who is very feminine. Good profile outline. Of a lovely colour with a good harsh coat. She presented very well. Fairly large head with very nice neat ears well set high on. Square body, nice width and depth to chest. Level top line and well angulated rear. Moved well with ease. 

 2ND 4472 - Barnfall Vanity JW (Mr C Gullon) Twenty month old Red Smooth. Good head with small neat ears, Dark eye and well placed nose contributing to her lovely expression. Medium neck and decent shoulder placement. In good body and condition with decent rib. Short loin and good tail placement. Good rear angulation, Moved ok. Not quite the presence or top line of one.

1ST 4492 - Delightbull Lady in Red JW (Miss L Wood) Two year old Red Rough. Lovely square girl with a feminine head and expression. Nice sized dark eyes and good pigmented rims. Well set nose with open nares. Good turnup with neat lips. Very alert and attentive to her handler, which displayed her pert monkey like expression. Square body, Well ribbed chest, good bone. Level back short loin and well set on tail. Well angulated rear. Moved well. 

2ND 4482 - Fennymore Annie Power (Mrs M A Mercer)Nineteen month old Red Rough who is of a slightly larger caste. Nice head with correct eye, nose and ear placement and good pigmentation. Good harsh coat of good colour. Level back, nice and square. Good bone and well angulated rear. Well set tail. Moved out well.

What a class this was brimming with quality and where I found my star of the day. 

1ST 4474 - Ch Donzeata Royal Etiquette (Mr D Guy) Two year old Red Smooth who just oozed quality. My first comment in my notes was beautiful. She is everything you would want in a Griffon with just that something extra that makes you tingle. She fit my interpretation of the standard beautifully. Her outline is text book, from head to tail, and topped off with her glossy short, tight jacket. Very feminine, dark eyes with black rims. Small, high set ears. Black nose with large open nares and a definite stop. Wide muzzle, neat lips and good turnup complete the picture. Short back, strong loin and well set tail. Wide chest, straight legs completed the front and are matched at the rear with well muscled thigh and good angulation. She moved out with drive and style. No hesitation in awarding her the Bitch Challenge Certificate and Best of Breed.

2ND 4475 - Datiro Tigger Point (Mr D Hick) Three year old Red Rough who again didn’t disappoint in any way and I would be happy to award high honours to but today had to settle for the Reserve Bitch Challenge Certificate in fierce competition. She is beautifully constructed and in excellent condition. She is square and cobby, well balanced and very smart. Her jacket is of a lovely colour and texture being clear red, harsh and wiry. Lovely typical head. Very dark, black rimmed eyes. Correctly placed nose with good stop and pigment. Good width to jaw and good turnup giving that all important expression. Medium neck. Well laid shoulder and sprung rib, deep wide chest and good front all added to the picture. Level back and good angulation well muscled. Moved with ease around the ring. Well earned and deserved her award.

1ST 4471 - Stormjac Black Pearl for Es (Mrs J Conway) Seven year old Black Rough who was in excellent coat and condition. Good body condition and presented well. Pleasing head with well set ears. Wide muzzle with well fitted lips, good turnup and chin well furnished with beard. Lovely spring of rib and depth to chest. Small cat like feet. Good tail set. Moved out well.
